Unfortunately, its autofocus system is very basic, with only 11 detection points. It's not especially reliable when it comes to face or object tracking. Also, it isn't the best option if you're interested in recording video since it can't record in 4k, and its FHD video quality is mediocre overall. Despite that, it's still one of the best cameras to start photography with, and most beginners will be happy with it

Same backfocusing problem. This time, adjusting the AF fine tuning by a factor of -4 for all of my lenses results in sharp focus, but using AF fine tuning isn't an ideal solution, since it causes the camera to not focus properly at infinity or at minimum focusing distance. Depending on the degree of AF tuning required, this could then require the user to manually adjust the focus ring after the AF has "reached its limit" (the limit which has changed due to the use of AF fine tuning). Get the Canon if you want 4k video capability and a fully articulated touchscreen, but if you're new to DSLRs, the Nikon is a great alternative budget option.

I have seen plenty of samples online of beautiful video work done with this body. If you plan to use it for video, plan to use a tripod and/or to spend some serious money on accessories to help handle this body smoothly. DSLRs are virtually impossible to hold out from your body (far enough to watch the LCD live view display) steady for any length of time. Overall I am extremely pleased and amazed at the high end features for the price point

it sucked lol. Using a D3500 with a nikon 17-55 2.8 lens. I couldnt auto-focus on anything because it was so dark, and the lens wasnt letting me manually focus! I switched it to M instead of MA on the lens but when I was spinning the dial it wasn't focusing, I was trying to make it infinty focus

Used d7000 or d90. Opens up lens options (body side focus motors). Great detail decent mp (more isnt always better)

and, they even managed to screw everything up by going to a 55mm filter. After a hundred and 57 years of 52 mm filters this kit 18-55 zoom requires a 55mm filter. and then there's The annoyance of the constant reminder that you need to extend the lens first before you can start shooting.

To be honest, the only reason why I bought this was because all modern digital cameras lack the manual control functionalities of the camera. Nowadays, everything is "automatically" managed by the computer within the camera which, in most cases, ruins the pictures. I am so glad that I made the switch to this camera! It does everything that my other cameras does not do! It allows me to manually adjust the focus, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, white balance, and so much more! I will admit that the camera can be a bit "much" to those who are new to the DSLR universe, but I will say that after you play with the camera for a while, you will know all of the menus, options and their locations like a pro! What I love about this camera is that you have the ability to switch out the stock lens for a macro lens (those insane close up photos) or for a telephoto lens (for those far distant pictures) if you choose! For me, personally, the stock lens does more than enough, but if I have the urge to buy one of the other lenses, I can do that because the camera is made for expand-ability! Contrary to what others may say, personally, I believe that the JPEG images are super clean and crisp. While you are not supposed to use JPEGs for post-production, I believe you can get away with some minor post with these files

My biggest issue with Canon cameras was the poor battery performance. I used to lug around three spare batteries to feed be beast with Canons. With this camera I can shoot all weekend with one charge. I must also mentioned that the the great deal Amazon gave me on this camera on the Black Friday deal

As I said, I don't use video and don't know If this is normal, but i guess this feature is maybe not the best of the camera. About the battery, I'm used to buying two of them just in case but apparently I won't need it with this camera. I was on a trip and took pictures for three days, I came back and took more sample pictures and I only charged once before the trip. It really lasts pretty long
