I like the simplicity of the bag as well as the option to access your gear clamshell style and from the top. I also like the supportive looking harness system that tucks away. 

Looks a little generous at 45L however and I don't see any dimensions on their website. Also I cant tell if there is a water bottle pocket or compression strap on the side.  Thoughts?

New travel backpack from Mountain Hardware

I spent two years searching for something as comfortable and spacious as a hiking backpack but wasn't willing to get a typical one because the material most likely wouldn't hold up. Finally after repeatedly coming back and looking at Mystery Ranch they released this.

I have used this pack four days a week for the last twelve weeks and am impressed. I use it for a wildlife study that involves primarily hiking off trail through steep terrain and often dense vegetation. Despite all of the snagging on branches, using the pack to push my way through a particularly dense patch of shrubs, and occasionally falling and sliding 20 feet on rocky slopes, there isn't a single blemish anywhere on the outside of the pack. The inside mesh has also held up very well even after having objects with sharp edges rubbing against it for 100+ miles

Disclaimer: I have not nor will I ever use this backpack for the intended purpose of a climbing pack but the short review is, it really is bombproof and comfortable.

 The Pop-up 28 might be the ultimate SAR pack because of it's durability, flexibility, and comfort.

More than a hunt pack

 The pack is unable to stay tight to the frame. The biggest annoyance with this is that you CANNOT access anything in the pack without loosening up multiple side straps. If Mystery Ranch would simply make points of contact to keep the back of the bag itself attached to the frame independently of the compression straps this bag would be untouchable! But since you can't secure it to the frame it's hard to get the load to distribute as it should on your body. I really really really want to like this pack but I'll most likely just sell if after this season

 This shouldn't be too surprising though since it's advertised as a tactical pack.  Though a 17" laptop will not fit in the laptop pocket, it will fit awkwardly within the main cargo area. I have a beefy Alienware 17" laptop with dimensions that exceed 17" and was able to easily fit it within the main section of the pack, but I think you would need a protective sleeve for your 17" laptop because despite the low weight of the pack, the netted pockets within it are quite heavy duty and somewhat abrasive. You could however fit the brick with cord in the laptop pocket unless of course you were going for battery power only

  The options for adjustments are perfect allowing me to get a great fit and seated perfectly along my back and shoulders, I hate packs that hang low because that unsettling center of gravity gets tiring after a while. On the other hand it is easy to adjust the straps on the move which is nice because if anyone has ever worn a pack for an extended period of time, then you know how nice it is to loosen, tighten, and switch to sling mode here and there to help free up spots on your back that get too hot over time because even with breathable material like that present on this pack, the bottom line is that there is still weight pushing material along your back and you will still get hot depending on how long you wear the pack.  The primary harnesses are thick and comfortable, even when I loaded the pack for weight I didn't feel anything digging into my shoulders. I'm used to seeing red marks on my shoulders with other packs and this comfort is something I'm not used to

Best pack I've had.

 I have been rained on several times and nothing inside the bad (laptop) has ever gotten wet. The zippers appear to be very durable as well as the straps. I only encountered a single issue: when packed light (just my laptop) and walking to work, the bottom sides of the bag would rub my back. There is a removable foam insert in each corner

I have been using the 2DayAssault for about 60 days straight. My biggest criteria for purchasing this bag was the rear pocket zipper for the laptop. I have a 15" MacBook Pro and it fits easily in the laptop pocket with easy access from rear pocket zipper or through the top. I use the bag daily for work but I have also taken two 4day weekend trips with nothing more than the 2DayAssault

Versatile Bag with plenty of room

  I’m a graphic designer, so I’m always carrying my 17” apple laptop and lots of additional tech/wires/charger etc. Additionally I’m a gamer, so I always carry my controller and my 13” Razer gaming laptop. So I’m able to carry two laptops(!), and a plethora of other things.  One of my favorite details about the bag, is the Mystery Ranch “Y” zipper design—It’s truly amazing, and not just a gimmick or novelty
