While the GeForce GTX 980, at a suggested price of $549, isn't anything resembling a budget card, it's $100 less expensive than the GeForce GTX 780 was at launch, and $150 cheaper than the GeForce GTX 780 Ti (as of this writing, at least). Of course, video-card prices are ever malleable, and the introduction of the GeForce GTX 980 and 970 cards signals the end of the line for the GeForce GTX 780 Ti, GTX 780, and GTX 770, according to Nvidia. As a result, some near-term deals may be available on those cards. On the red-and-black side of the fence, AMD's Radeon R9 290X was available when we wrote this for a bit less (about $525, and including some generous game bundles, and in a few e-tail configs for a bit under $500), but you'll likely end up paying more in the long run in electric bills over years of gaming with that card

But if you're a 700 Series guy, the real improvements found in this card are its power usage which you'll notice is significantly less. EVGA's styling of this card is very good from a profile angle, and I haven't had many complaints except for the occasional screen glitch here or there, which I personally think has more to do with my monitor than it does actual issues with the card itself. Remember, if you have a monitor that is outdated, the card won't make it more awesome, and most cases with vsync off, will make you realize how painful your refresh rate on your monitor really is (especially if coming from the 500 Series). This card is almost ideal with a high end 1440p gaming monitor like the Asus RoG Swift PG278Q or another 120-144Hz monitor that can really give you the experience of those extra frames so you can do something with it
