 So the pack has a day-pack included that attaches inside the pack for ease of use and it has a clip inside to attach your bladder inside the day-pack. This is all and good however I don't really plan on using the day-pack and that bladder clip is the only one in the pack. So if you remove the day-pack you lose your mounting point. I found an easy fix that being some Velcro tape stuck together fed through an exposed portion of the metal frame at the top of the inside of the pack that allows me to hold a bladder in place (A zip-tie worked as well but is much less practical)

 So far I can only give initial impressions as my only real use thus far was a 3 mile overnight trip to the upper twin lake on Mt.Hood about a 3 mile hike. It performed pretty well for that but I still yet to put it though some more punishing things like get caught in a rainstorm to truly test how well it holds up in more undesirable circumstances. The sizing is a touch big but that was to be expected as I'm very thin but with a broad build making sizing of clothes and packs a little more challenging

My first real backpacking pack and its almost perfect

Ordered mine on sale in late spring, taken it on a handful of 10+ mile out & backs and a 20 mile summit so far, overall I’d say really great bag i’d expect nothing less from mountain hardwear. Excels in comfort, ventilation, and overall layout in my opinion compared to similar options from Osprey & REI brand bags, although a bit more spendy. The fit was pretty true to size, I have a 19” torso and 32” waist and the S/M fits me great. The sliding lumbar support really sells it for me, keeps the pack considerably more balanced and stable especially on more technical terrain

 The pack has held up well enough in both the rocky high desert as well as alpine bristlecone forests over my first season with it. The detachable day pack turned out to be a lot more useful than I originally expected when I ordered this pack, Great for small day hikes or dropping your main pack at camp to summit with the daypack. Daypack is pretty comfortable with a 3L bladder although a chest strap would be nice. Biggest gripe I’ve seen about the bag is the front mesh pocket, it hasn’t been a tear concern for me personally even in pretty thick brush, and I hardly use it for anything but wrappers anyway so rain getting the contents wet is not a concern for me either

. it’s heavier, but the comfort is unreal. My perfect do anything pack: an Atmos with the new Aether style of backpanel. Like not quite as stripped down as the Aether Pro, but just a bit closer fit than the springboard on the Atmos and a little more comfortable above 40 pounds

I backpack a bunch. One AT thru hike and a bunch of other stuff. Here are the backpacks I have used so far.

1. Osprey Talon 44. Still don't understand why this is not a more used ultralight pack. It was my pack for 2190 miles. It was trashed, I am not sentimental, I threw it away after my thru hike.
2. On the last 170 miles of the Long Trail I used the Granite Gear Vapor Trail 60 limited edition. Bought it because it was cheap. It worked well but wanted to get lighter. I let a friend borrow it a few months ago don't know if I will get it back or use again.
3. Gossamer Gear G4-20. Used it 14+ nights so far replaced the back pad with Various CCF pads. Worked well but not 5+ days or during the winter because of lack of frame. I still own this and will use again for everything 3 season less than 3 or 4 days.
4. Just ordered a HMG 3400 Southwest. I am thinking great winter and 5+ day pack and good for places you need a bear can.

 10 oz. Black Friday for $180. Will this pack be enough to carry my kit for up to 3 day hikes?  I’m moving more and more sub 9 lb (sub 8 in warm weather) Lighterpack listing below. Anyone have an ultralight hammock camping with 40 liter or below??  On the upside Zpacks has a variety of accessories to expand your packs capabilities so I think I’m good but would love to hear some opinions

 This is about as light as it gets. so this is the Z-packs Nero 38 liter. The 38 liters also includes these pockets, so it's not just the uh, I believe these account for eight of the leaders, so it's a 30 liter on the inside. And then if you count the two sides, which I believe are two liters each in this pack which is considered four liter carry, that's where you get your 38 liters from

 You have to have some lightweight stuff. This thing is only ready to carry about 20 pounds. Anything over 20 pounds becomes, uh, pretty uncomfortable because it doesn't have the support system. It's got very thin straps, it has virtually no waste strap and so you have got to make sure that you are backpacking with very little weight

 That has been super more better. That's not a good way of putting, but it's been way better for me than having my wet weight sink all the way in on my hips. Just keeping it tight and to the top and being able to release these just to get some airflow in has been a much more comfortable carry for me, especially with the water kind of pulling some of that weight forward. Um, so that has been something that I would not go back on

 When I first got it, I wasn't sure how much I would like it or how it would perform over several trips, but I have really come to like going with the smaller backpack. I wasn't sure I was used to a 60 liter backpack and I didn't know how to be going scaling down all the way to a 38 liter, but it has been super easy for me. I will say I have the correct gear for it. You do have to have the gear

Easily my favorite pack I've used. Frameless packs I've tried before ending up on the cutaway: Palante V2, GG G4-20, Zpacks Nero. Cutaway hands down the most comfortable and best for fast hiking, and once I used tye vest straps there was no going back (also have a tiempo for trail running/super ul fast packing that I can just transfer the strap system over to and be good to go. I found reviews really helpful when researching gear for my PCT trip this year, so I thought I would write one for this pack.  If you have any questions, just let me know in the comments - because it’s a niche, cottage product that is different you may have a lot of questions if you are considering buying it (I know I did!).  I would prefer questions in the comments and not in DM so that others can see the answer.

What is it: this pack is a small, frameless hip-belt less pack with running-vest style shoulder straps.  Mine is the 18 inch torso size, and the robic fabric.  I initially ordered it with the 17 inch strap length, but then ordered 19 inch straps after I found I wanted more length in the front.

How I got the pack: I hiked 1800 miles of the PCT this year, I just got off the day before yesterday after three months on trail.  I started with a LiteAF framed 40 pack, which I actually didn’t like.  The hip belt was pretty flimsy, and so tended to slip down unless I cinched it tight.  It caused me pain, even with a small amount of weight…it was just an uncomfortable pack for me.  Then, in Wrightwood I saw a guy with a  Nashville pack at a cafe, and he was kind enough to talk to me about the pack for at least 20 minutes (thanks Richard!).  He loved the pack, his wife loved the pack.  He answered a ton of my questions about it, then I tried it on, and it was super comfy.  That morning, I emailed the company with a list of questions, and Levi - one of the owners - called me within ten minutes.  Levi talked to me for at least 10 minutes, answering my questions.   I was staying with a girl in Wrightwood,  and her boyfriend was hiking the trail with a Nashville Cutaway and she said he loved it.  Feeling like what the hell, I ordered what I thought was a 16 inch pack in robic that happened to be in stock.  I shipped it to Tehachapi, with the plan to try it out until Kennedy Meadows South, then swap it for my framed LiteAF due to needing to carry a bear canister.  Then, my plan was to re-swap back to the Nashville at Sonora Pass, if my experience with the Nashville went well. I hope this all makes sense.

I had to relearn how to load a pack…or rather, learn how to effectively load a frameless pack in a way that is comfortable.  My system was to roll up my Neoair to get rid of all the air (remember to close the valve after rolling), and then fold it three times, and place it against the back of the pack.  Then, stuff my sleeping bag in a plastic sack bigger than the circumference of the Nashville, and stuff that at the bottom (the idea is to NOT cram anything into a sack that is smaller than the Nashville, as you want everything to be stuffed into the pack in such a way that it fills the space completely).  When I swapped to the Nashville, I got rid of all of my stuff sacks, and basically just used reusable plastic shopping bags that were bigger than the Nashville circumference for things like clothes and my small tent.  For toiletries, I used a gallon zip lock, and stuffed it between the sack of clothes or tent, and the pack on the inside.  What is most comfortable is for everything to take up all the space, so that it feels like you just have one cylinder of stuff.  Most difficult is food - for that I used a large Amazon plastic packing bag, and just put it in the center of the pack, making sure it well filled the space.  Then, and this is crucial, I would give it a good hard knee in the middle of the pack to stop it barreling (I learned this from Richard).  When I did it right, it was comfortable.  For the sternum straps that run horizontal, I used two elastic straps at the bottom, and one fixed strap near the top.  I liked the running vest vertical straps to be more toward the arms, and not cinched in too far towards the center.  Also, I would vary the straps and positions throughout the day - sometimes with all three sternum straps cinched, sometimes with no sternum straps cinched, etc.  Different muscles get sore, so it is good to vary it up.

How did I like it: I found it pretty comfortable, unless it was overloaded with weight.  I would tell people that most of the time, it is far more comfortable than a framed pack, but that some of the time (first day after a resupply with a long water carry, for example) it was more uncomfortable than a framed pack.  And, that you do have to think more about your food carries and water carries, because you do feel the weight more if it gets heavy.  That being said, I was always encouraging people to try on my pack on trail, and whenever they would do so they would be shocked at how much more comfortable it was.  Also, they didn’t even really get to hike with it like I did, in which case they would experience how much more comfortable it was to climb over blowdowns, or maneuver over obstacles, or just the feeling of allowing your hips to move naturally.  Of course, you do have to have a very light base weight, and I did, and during the course of the trail it got lighter.  I called myself a “lazy hiker”, I just ate snacks all day and didn’t cook, and I just didn’t really care about camp luxuries.  I was, I swear, just as comfortable at night as any of my friends, since I had a Neaoair, a 20 degree hoodless bag, and a tent to keep the bugs out (a tiny, 12 ounce Hexamid which I loved).   

Customer service: as you can probably tell from what I’ve written so far, the customer service was just insanely good.  Levi is really responsive, and immediately emails you back.  He took the time to call me and answer all my questions.  They actually mis-identified the torso length of the pack I bought as 18 inch, and so they are sending me a 16 inch pack for free.  On trail, I wanted to buy longer vest straps, and they worked with me to make sure that was shipped ahead so I could pick it up on the trail.  I feel so bad for all the emails I sent working out logistics and so forth, since I took up their time, but they always responded immediately.  Their responsiveness and professionalism made it so that I could make such a crucial gear change in the middle of trail (which I have to tell you, is not easy…I recommend trying to dial in your gear as much as you can at home).

My takeaway: I never thought I would switch to a frameless, hip belt less pack on trail, but I did and I would encourage you to try it out if you are on the fence.  I have a kind of messed up back, so my back would certainly still hurt, but it hurt less than it did with a framed pack.  I got lots of remarks about the pack, and like I said once people tried it on they were frankly floored by the comfort.  The straps on the Nashville are super comfy, and I can't imagine using a different frameless pack as this one is so good. Nothing ever broke on it, it was very durable.  I loved the pockets, and I actually really liked the soft robic nylon fabric.  All in all, it is a good, comfy pack.

Their responsiveness and professionalism made it so that I could make such a crucial gear change in the middle of trail (which I have to tell you, is not easy…I recommend trying to dial in your gear as much as you can at home).</p>

<p>My takeaway: I never thought I would switch to a frameless, hip belt less pack on trail, but I did and I would encourage you to try it out if you are on the fence.  I have a kind of messed up back, so my back would certainly still hurt, but it hurt less than it did with a framed pack.  I got lots of remarks about the pack, and like I said once people tried it on they were frankly floored by the comfort.  The straps on the Nashville are super comfy, and I can&#39;t imagine using a different frameless pack as this one is so good. Nothing ever broke on it, it was very durable.  I loved the pockets, and I actually really liked the soft robic nylon fabric.  All in all, it is a good, comfy pack.</p>

What's up everybody? Josh here coming at you with your first one minute review. I figured I'd start with a crucial piece of gear. the backpack. Let's go

ONE MINUTE REVIEW #1 (ZPACKS NERO BACKPACK)

 Let's talk about the features of this first, and then we'll talk about what I like and what I don't like. So, the main compartment of this is 25 liters, each side pocket for your water bottles is 2.5 liters, and the mesh pocket is 8 liters, which has a total capacity of 38 liters. Now with the roll top, if you extended it out, you actually can probably get up to about 40 liters of total capacity

 I think it's a great pack and again, with the change out of the pad to the Z-Lite, really made a world of difference and comfortability for me, but it'll be different for everyone.  Now the features of the pack, this is made of 2.92 ounce Dyneema composite fabric or Cuban fiber, so this is the thicker Cuban, which is what they make in their Arc lines. This is not a customizable backpack, so the big changes that you would see from this till something like the Arc Blast or Akal, this has no frame, and this sit pad that they give you, kind of makes up the frame in the pack and give you a little bit more comfortability, but there is no frame in the internal, external frame with this thing, so you're not going to be adjusting that, and with the recommendation load, you really don't need a frame. The shoulder straps are sewn in, they're not adjustable like you would see in their other Arc line packs, their hip belt

 Now, outside of that, obviously this is a frameless pack, so you're not going to be able to get the same comfort level that you have on, say, an Arc Blast or an Arc Call. The comfort level is obviously way different, but again, you shouldn't really need that comfort level with the weight that you have in your pack. I never got this thing down low enough where I took the hip belt off, but I would say if I'm somewhere probably south of 12 pounds, I'm probably going to take that hip belt off. That would probably feel really comfortable

Zpacks Nero Review

 Greetings and welcome back hikers, I'm Bigfoot, and today we are going to be reviewing the

 new Z-Pax Minimalist Backpack, the Z-Pax Nero.

 The Z-Pax Nero is their new minimalist backpack that replaced the Zero.

 Let's talk about the features of this first, and then we'll talk about what I like and

 Now the Z-Pax recommends that the base weight that you're rocking on this is probably somewhere

 in that 5 to 6 pound ratio, with a max weight load that this can carry at about 20 pounds.

 Now after putting this through the test and carrying the max load, I would say that this

 definitely can hold 20 pounds, it was not very comfortable at 20 pounds, I would say

 that it really started to get comfortable for me when I hit about 15 pounds.

 So I would try to stay somewhere in that 15 pound or below, I think a base weight you

 probably can get somewhere south of 8 pounds, and when you add in a few days worth of food

 and water, you're probably about at that 15 pound, where again, I just think that that

 is probably the most comfortable, that or lower of course.

 I would say that after using this on my FKT hike, this has plenty of room to accommodate

 pretty much everything that you would need if you're a minimalist, more than enough as
