 So the pack has a day-pack included that attaches inside the pack for ease of use and it has a clip inside to attach your bladder inside the day-pack. This is all and good however I don't really plan on using the day-pack and that bladder clip is the only one in the pack. So if you remove the day-pack you lose your mounting point. I found an easy fix that being some Velcro tape stuck together fed through an exposed portion of the metal frame at the top of the inside of the pack that allows me to hold a bladder in place (A zip-tie worked as well but is much less practical)

 So far I can only give initial impressions as my only real use thus far was a 3 mile overnight trip to the upper twin lake on Mt.Hood about a 3 mile hike. It performed pretty well for that but I still yet to put it though some more punishing things like get caught in a rainstorm to truly test how well it holds up in more undesirable circumstances. The sizing is a touch big but that was to be expected as I'm very thin but with a broad build making sizing of clothes and packs a little more challenging

My first real backpacking pack and its almost perfect

Ordered mine on sale in late spring, taken it on a handful of 10+ mile out & backs and a 20 mile summit so far, overall I’d say really great bag i’d expect nothing less from mountain hardwear. Excels in comfort, ventilation, and overall layout in my opinion compared to similar options from Osprey & REI brand bags, although a bit more spendy. The fit was pretty true to size, I have a 19” torso and 32” waist and the S/M fits me great. The sliding lumbar support really sells it for me, keeps the pack considerably more balanced and stable especially on more technical terrain

 The pack has held up well enough in both the rocky high desert as well as alpine bristlecone forests over my first season with it. The detachable day pack turned out to be a lot more useful than I originally expected when I ordered this pack, Great for small day hikes or dropping your main pack at camp to summit with the daypack. Daypack is pretty comfortable with a 3L bladder although a chest strap would be nice. Biggest gripe I’ve seen about the bag is the front mesh pocket, it hasn’t been a tear concern for me personally even in pretty thick brush, and I hardly use it for anything but wrappers anyway so rain getting the contents wet is not a concern for me either

 Something I like about the Talon 30 litre is that it has really wide shoulder straps and I find the surface area over your shoulders make for a lot of comfort and makes it sit really nicely over the top of your torso. It's got heaps of tightening straps and really allows you to customize the fit once you put it on your body. It's got a super lightweight flimsy hip belt that really wraps your core and is super comfortable, especially against this back frame which has this mesh covered rib cage back piece. It makes the pack super comfortable but also pushes it away from your t-shirt or skin meaning it's breathable, comfortable, doesn't get too sweaty, and it also takes out a lot of the volume, making it super lightweight behind the airscape

Right now I've got a camera case, my tent, and a large drink bottle packed into the back and there's still a ton of space left around it

 nice and small and then some additional um loops here again if you wanted to pop a radio on there or whatever it might be. So plenty of options on the front of the shoulder straps. and then you've got a nice big mesh storage pocket. Compression straps as normal and then nice big side pockets there you can pop a nalgene in there or whatever water bottle you might have fit in there nice nicely and then again top compression straps

 I find myself putting this on and off over the course of a day. If I'm working really hard and I find it's restricting me and I'm breathing really heavily, then I'll tend to undo it. But then other times if I want to sort of bring it in a little bit more from digging into my shoulders, then that's when I'd do it up and tighten it up. And yeah, it's uh, one that I find myself doing over the course of the day walking with this

 But um, 30 liters does still cover a lot of different activities out on the hill again, whether it's day hiking in summer or day hiking in winter, or really lightweight excursions. Um, overnight stuff. Um, 30 litres should be enough for most of those things. Also, just on the zips, you've got highly water resistant zips as well

So you've got the laminated zips, which gives you again, some really good water resistance to prevent huge levels of water ingress. 30 litres is a good size if you're doing some pretty lightweight overnight trips or day trips again

Over here at the zippers, they are easy to grab and operate and it's a lot nicer than some small piece that you need to pull like this
