The price of a down sleeping bag seems to be creeping up in recent years. Fortunately, the Mountain Hardwear Bishop Pass 30 is bucking this trend. It's filled with a generous 15 oz of 650-fill power duck down that provides significant weight and packed size benefits. At just under 2 lbs for a size Long, this affordable bag is impressively lightweight and well-suited for any type of human-powered travel. It also showed above-average compressibility in our packed size test, despite fairly spacious dimensions that never felt too cramped.
Most casual backpackers probably won't notice the drawbacks of the Bishop Pass 30. Although it is lightweight, it is not quite as light as some of the ultra-premium sleeping bags. The 650FP down insulation is also not as lofty as the higher fill power down inside its more expensive competitors. We think its 30F temp rating is pretty accurate compared to other lower limit EN ratings, but it will lose most of its insulative power if it gets wet, just like any other down bag. Despite these flaws, we believe the Bishop Pass is the best budget sleeping bag currently on the market. 

We believe the astronomical prices of some high-end sleeping bags won't make sense to the average backpacker. For these folks, we suggest selecting a better value, such as the Mountain Hardwear Bishop Pass 30. This is our favorite budget bag because it combines 650 fill power down in a simple mummy design that offers a solid balance of performance characteristics. The warmth-to-weight ratio is impressive for an affordable option, and it packs smaller than other models that provide similar warmth. Its comfort and versatility may not be otherworldly, but they should be high enough to satisfy most shoppers.
The Bishop Pass 30 simply can't match the performance of an ultra-premium sleeping bag. Its goose down isn't as lofty and the nylon lining isn't as supple. There is also a roughly 30% weight disadvantage compared to the lightest high-end models. However, we think most backpackers will hardly notice these drawbacks. Instead, they will probably be happiest settling for the Bishop Pass and using the substantial money they save to upgrade other components of their overnight kit.

The Mountain Hardwear Bishop Pass is an affordable bag that outperformed other similar bags in the mid-price zero-degree field. It has an oversized draft tube and a plush draft collar that is ergonomically shaped to trap heat in and keep cold air out. The DWR-treated shell performed swimmingly in our light rain and soaking testing and withheld from saturation much longer than other products in its class. It boasts a significant amount of fill but isn't overly heavy, thanks to its overall slim shape. 
This bag is a mummy shape that could feel tight for larger users. Our largest testers weigh in at 200 pounds and are six feet tall; they had no problems getting comfortable in every sleeping position. It is heavier than more expensive bags in this temp range; however, for the price, you won't think about the extra ounces, especially if you aren't going too far. This is an excellent four-season bag for car campers or adventurers on a budget. Extra features like a glow-in-the-dark zipper and stash pocket rounded out our love of this bag over the competition.

 Nor does it take up that much weight for you. So this is a great down sleeping bag. It may be someone's first down bag, but the the other features that are inside this bag make it work for that technical user. So you've got a great versatile bag at an amazing price

 The bishops pass in the minus nine format packs down to two pounds: five ounces - and this one. The minus one packs down to one pound, twelve ounces, so once it's in its storage or in its stuff sack, it doesn't take up that much room in your pack. Nor does it take up that much weight for you. So this is a great down sleeping bag

 The minus nine you get into an actual proper draft caller inside this bag. So you've got this extra layer of down that helps eliminate some of those that exchange of air as you move in the sleeping bag and pump air out and pull air in this draft collar helps minimize that so the air that you've heated up doesn't leave the Bags are very comfortable, they are mummy bag, but they are what they call a performance plus so a little wider than a standard mummy bag. So if you're an active sleeper and you move around, you will find these very comfortable. So here's our bishop's pass all packed up in their in their stuff sacks

Hopped onto the trail at Hot Springs, NC and got off around Devil Fork Gap (finished a day earlier than my buddy and I had planned). This was my first vacation since entering the work force and my first time on the AT. My knees were definitely a little angry at me after this climb up to Big Firescald Knob but the view was worth it. Definitely looking forward to future section-hikes! Also the Gregory Baltoro 65 Pack is wonderful :)

 It'S actually going to work with you, um. Obviously, you've got your traditional chest, strap fully adjustable and you know fully fully clickable as well. So obviously the hydration bladder itself comes out from that top there and basically comms feed through here, and then you actually connect it on the chest, strap there. So yet again you can feed it through there if you want, or if you want to go the other side, you can feed it through there but, as I said, they try to keep it as basic as possible and let's go down to the lower part of The bag - I just bring that up first and you'll, see, is this little section here now

 What you will notice is obviously these grooves in the straps themselves. Now, basically, wherever than them coming out of the factory flat and molding to you they've already, given you the support and arch that you need so for when it's brand spanking new outside the bag, you're going to get a really nice fit, and you will only see That in Gregory products, so there we have it.  Just a little feature, there is a really nice touch to have, especially if you want to get something. That'S nice and you know really tense on nine times that turns out the actual bottom part of the bag, I'm just on the front part as well. What you do have is a nice front, storage area as well, skin.we big enough for any GPS systems, quite actually just to grab items to you know, grab and go items you having a nice and storage unit

 Obviously, talking about the head, you have your traditional, safe pocket in the top part, as well as your traditional rear pocket as well, which it again all nice and spacious, and even the storm flap is nice and rigid as well. So, as I said, they really have going to paid attention to the finer details. Let'S talk about the back system itself, yet again, it's a nice foam padding. So it's going to be really comfortable on your back, especially if you're going to be taking heavy loads

Gregory Packs | Baltoro 65 Backpack Review

- For this experience, the mesh backing behind the straps meant to allow ventilation did not allow ventilation and my back dripped the entire time. I've had previous experience with Osprey's anti-gravity mesh system and I know noticed a big difference between the two, which was one of the things that made me nervous about going with Gregory. Unfortunately my fears came true and it did little to nothing to cool off my back and keep it somewhat dry. For me, it's a deal breaker because I sweat a lot when I hike (sorry to be gross)

- The daypack was nothing special but it was adequate. I used it in the middle portion of the trip where we hiked to some lakes (about 10 miles round trip), and it held a set of rain pants, a rain shell, a Nalgene bottle, bug spray, and a large bagged lunch. I will say that my shoulders were a bit sore the next day, there is not chest clip to hold the straps in front of you.

- The right side mesh pocket is specifically angled and designed to hold and access a Nalgene water bottle while you're hiking and it ACTUALLY works. Huge plus on the trail.

 Unfortunately my fears came true and it did little to nothing to cool off my back and keep it somewhat dry. For me, it's a deal breaker because I sweat a lot when I hike (sorry to be gross).

 I Got my sleeping bag just to fill it out see and you can see the shape of it. You've got a hydration hydration pocket in the back access to for the hydration hose out the sides here but just want to show you guys that. overall very nice. Very nice backpack

 The lumbar pad is very nice. Get in the light there for you. Okay, the lumbar pad has like a silicone coating, it's nonstick or it's very sticky, Rather keeps your back nice and planted. Really kind of locks in the lumbar region so you don't get a lot of a lot of stress on your back and it really transfers these

 Shoulder straps actually have two positions so it'll even more fine-tuned to your your torso length on the padded waist belt. We have little pouches here. They're pretty small, but you don't really want a huge pouch here because it's going to get in the way of your of your hand and you're hiking both as you're walking. So it's just for small ends

 overall very nice. Very nice backpack. I'm kind of a perfectionist when it comes to stuff like this and you know I Don't think you can beat this one for the for the money you do have forgot to mention earrings. We do have side pockets here

Gregory Baltoro 65 Pack Review

  The include small backpack sleeve is nice if you want to leave the big packpack at the tent and throw breakfast and coffee, stove, to hike a bit to a vista.  I have smaller Gregory  packs, nano and miwok, and am pleased with them.  Be careful on sizing.  I am probably in between med and large but making large work

  The outside pocket is nice. The waterproof pocket on the hip belt is too small for a standard iphone and it is incredulous that the designers did not change it when changing the color scheme for the next year. I opted for this pack because of the Gregory name and the comfort at the cost of some weight. It does come with a custom rain cover

 But because it was $300 and it weighs over five pounds and it wasn't comfortable for me and that may not be the back of the packs fault like I said, but it gives a three out of five and category rating I think there's packs at Cost labs that are as good or better I think those packs that probably cost more that aren't as good. So three out of five on category rating. So overall Gregory Baltoro gets a score of 2.4 Now that's not super high, but as I'm doing these reviews I have set this this criteria up to where nothing's gonna get a very high score

 Make sure that you spend a lot of time as much time as you possibly can in the pack with it. Full load it down because it might fit frying. It might fit great without any weight in it or very little weight in it. but once you get all your stuff in there and you're hiking up the trail, it might be uncomfortable, so make sure you try it on full weight
