I've had a nice Cold Steel knife for many years, it's what I used to carry in my USCG days. Problem I had with it was it's heavy and it was a high carbon steel type, which rusts if you don't maintain them really well. Since I needed a good reliable knife for camping, I was looking for something that was light and didn't require quite so much maintenance. I was searching for options and kept coming up with knives that appeared to be marketed towards the Prepper Nut/Zombie Apocalypse/Rambo wannabe

 Also didn't want to spend a lot of money on something that might get easily lost. My searches kept coming up with Mora Knives, and I'm happy I found them. Maybe not the "Best" knife in the world, but for my application and for the very reasonable price, it was just what I was looking for. I'd certainly buy another if I needed one

Nice basic knife

and I’ll tell you it was difficult for that person to cut through the handle material with a high-speed reciprocating saw...surprisingly difficult

probably among the better stainless steels used by more knife brands. Until I really give this knife a few months worth of work, the only stainless steels I would rate better would likely be CPM 154 and CPM SV30, respectively. However, those two steels usually carry a far higher pricetag than this Sandvik blade. Extremely Impressed! Great Every Day Carry knife

 It holds the knife securely in it and protects the blade well. It even includes a drain hole in the bottom to drain any moisture that may get caught inside. It has a hefty built in belt clip with a positive clamping feature that attaches it securely to your belt so losing it is not easy.  While my search for a nice hefty blade made from Elmax steel or M390 steel (also made by Bohler-Uddeholm) still goes on, I can say I did find a prefect little camping companion in this knife, and at this price I'll be ordering some more to have extras around the campsite

 Why? Because the blade is made of what is one of the most ultra premium knife steels made today, and at this price it's a gift.  This knife is made by Swiss company Morakniv using Elmax Steel which is made by Swiss company Bohler-Uddeholm. It has a Rockwell hardness of 59-61 RC making it one of the hardest knife steels found today. The alloy is a high chromium-molybdenum-vanadium mix that's fused together using the latest particle metallurgy process which virtually eliminates the presence of carbides in the alloy which make the steel prone to chipping

 I take care of my knives but I ordered the stainless steel model for its ease of care, ease of sharpening, its overall shape and its size and it having a less brittle blade as its carbon counter-parts. Here's a hint..

 it really snaps tight and snug in its sheath. It stays put in it better than almost any other fixed blade I own with leather or cloth type sheath. No, it did not come "Razor Sharp" and I do not care as I hand sharpen every knife I purchase regardless of its "Pedigree" to my standards. I spent 20+ years in the military and was in the field the day I returned for home, and I would have loved to have had this blade as one of my back ups throughout my service

 It is light weight, easy to sharpen, it is now razor sharp, it can clean game and fish easily and can be used for light camp duties. If I were in the field and my life depended on this blade I would choose it over many others that I have owned over the years. These Are Great Knives, I Got A Lot More For My $ Than I Expected!

A big knife might seem like it's better but they are usually less practical when it comes to fine carving tasks and are heavy on your belt or in your bag. If you look at people who actually spend a lot of time in the bush most of them are carrying knives that have a blade length of between 4-7in and a hatchet for chopping wood. If you need to cut through dense brush you can get a Cold Steel machete for around $20 as well. If you already have a Mora Companion I'd say just try to save up some more money and look at knives in the $50-$100 range

I don't have much of a budget for knives and the only one I own is a Mora Companion, which is good and I actually use fairly often for general use. 

I just want an extra one to keep in my big out bag for less than $20. I wanted something bigger than the Mora, which I think is only about 7" total. 

The MTech USA MT-086 https://amazon.com/dp/B003U7SC6O caught my eye for the general style and price, but it's actually just a little bigger than I want at 12.25 inches

So another MTech, the MT-20-70C seems exactly about the size at 10" and $17

Inexpensive bug out bag knife?

Ergonomic handle, tough and simple nylon sheath, corrosion resistant blade that is extremely sharp Not a bad way to spend 15 bucks.

 This one comes with the car deck sheath. You can get a leather sheath form, but most of the time you're gon na find it is coming with that Kydex sheath and then it's the signature of the with your White River guarantee by the owner of White River knife and tool, and then you also get In the Box a little instruction card or your sheet on the different ways you can mount the lid on it, four different ways: one carry so next and now let me get you a close-up of the knife and sheet itself. So here you have the knife in its sheath, I, the one I purchased was the the black and gray toned colored micarta. I went ahead and stripped that and add it dyed it with some cherry red to give it a little bit of red

 Through you there's different positions, you can adjust it to and it works out very well, and the retention on it is is solid, solid retention for sure it has. It has a little bit of a click there and it grabs it and it holds in place no shaking you're not going to lose this thing. You know you can run with it down the trail. What have you? It'S not going anywhere solid retention, and this is nicely rounded, as as a push release on do it, so you can pull out the knife, so excellent, sheath, no nonsense! You know fairly streamlined, build good quality, couldn't be happier for $ 150 to get that that kind of Steel that s35vn steel on a on an every day carry blade

 An excellent feel excellent ergonomics. If you need to choke up and throw your finger out there towards the tip and do some finer cutting it's, it's still excellent feel for doing that. Even though there's no jumping down there, that's alright it still. It still works really really well, and it's just fits perfectly in this in this grip right here you get that full three-inch blade and it's a mild stone, wash it's kind of like a brushed stone wash for the blade which, which is just elegant all the way Around and it's a hundred percent made in the USA by by a family-run business and with from what I've heard, excellent warranty, an excellent customer service

 I think that hitting Canyon has a 2.75 two and three-quarter inch blade length versus the white rivers three inch, so you get a little bit more length of blade with this guy and the steel is basically the same as 30 vs s 35 right about the same Type of Steel, but the big difference to me least was - and everybody kind of, has a feel for my hand, size i've, where I kind of fit between a medium and a large size, glove and always end up wearing large. Because of that reason, I'm kind of right there in between my fingers, aren't very long but in my hands, not huge, but it's a good size average male hand and with the hidden Canyon, by Benchmade. There'S just not quite enough length in the handle

 Lockup is a developing blade play. If it's an emergency, you know how fast can you deploy the blade and, of course, it's inherently going to be weaker than a full tang? For these reasons there has been a resurgence in the community of interest in small, fixed blades, but is it practical? Well, you are gon na give up some length. Okay, no doubt about that. This is a it's an Al Mar Eagle

 It'S got orange g10 handle scales and that length and that weight really piqued my interest, because this is the type of fixed blade. Sorry, if there's background noise, this is not a tabletop, but the weight in the length of this blade make it a fixed blade that could be carried in place of an EDC, folding knife and that's of interest to a lot of people. You see full tang construction white liners there, some jimping on a thumb rest here, it's got a stone wash, but the stone wash is very highly polished. You can see it reflecting some trees there

 Most people already have a budget price candy blade. At least most of my subscribers already own a Mora knife. This is a martini, but it's the same idea as a Mora. So I'm not saying you should replace your Mora, not at all I'm just saying how many Moroz can you buy

 The acute tip is good for basically surgical work, whether skinning first-aid or social situations. The ergonomics simple, but freakin, beautiful construction, first-rate, fit and finish first-rate, the stone wash with high polish first-rate, I mean yeah, it is expensive, but you're. Getting every little detail is perfect. The sheath, first-rate, you know compact light, does its job

I think what i what i like about this is: not only can you rock it around your neck, obviously taking the taking the belt clip off, but you can rock it on your belt and i think, what's nice is you can either ride it up up and Down vertical like this, or you can obviously turn the uh turn the clip, of course, and rock it so that it's sitting on your on your on your belt or you know, obviously on your belt uh

White River M1 Caper - Great Everyday Carry (EDC) Fixed Blade

 Everything the edges have been rounded off. Ok, so they're very, very comfortable, and you can tell that they paid a lot of attention to detail when they were handling this knife. Alright, just a little aggressive, but not to be not to the poem work actually digs into your thumb. It'S very comfortable and of course, as you guys know, this micarta handle was absolutely beautiful

 Potentially, I actually might put some bullets in here or extra knives or whatever I want. Maybe my wedding ring even alright, so let's just jump right into the product. This is a Kydex sheath very nicely executed and there's no sharp edges. They do have the joint drainage hole, as you can see right there and I got to play around with it a little bit
