Until I really give this knife a few months worth of work, the only stainless steels I would rate better would likely be CPM 154 and CPM SV30, respectively. However, those two steels usually carry a far higher pricetag than this Sandvik blade. I gutted my deer wiped the knife off and later that night went to clean it the rust scaling already began. So keep it oiled. For the price Its alright, but nothing special. I know it has a lot of positive reviews however, this has been my experience with this blade

It has a Rockwell hardness of 59-61 RC making it one of the hardest knife steels found today. The alloy is a high chromium-molybdenum-vanadium mix that's fused together using the latest particle metallurgy process which virtually eliminates the presence of carbides in the alloy which make the steel prone to chipping. This material provides what is arguably the best combination of edge retention, corrosion resistance, hardness (RC scale), wear resistance and ease of sharpening available today. This is a non alloyed steel with 0.90-1.03% in carbon and through it's purity it becomes much harder than stainless steel in heat treatments.Take that hard edge and a lot of carbon and you see why carbon steel is used for axe heads and high-speed tool applications like lawnmower blades and drill bits

A big knife might seem like it's better but they are usually less practical when it comes to fine carving tasks and are heavy on your belt or in your bag. If you look at people who actually spend a lot of time in the bush most of them are carrying knives that have a blade length of between 4-7in and a hatchet for chopping wood. If you need to cut through dense brush you can get a Cold Steel machete for around $20 as well. If you already have a Mora Companion I'd say just try to save up some more money and look at knives in the $50-$100 range

It will not slice smoothly due to thickness. The balance seems off due the weight as well. It will be a great wood processor, but will not be a good overall knife. It is far too heavy for a neck knife and will drag on your pants if on a belt

I have batoned it through firewood with nary an issue. Just don’t try to use it as a crowbar.

It's tough. It can do almost anything you want, and has stood up to having had the crap beat out of it. I did order the leather sheath, and it is quality. It is just as sturdy as the knife

Sheath knives are simple, generally sturdy, and a very large variety of shapes and lengths. Over many years I have found something inexpensive but well made like a Morakniv Companion handles most knife jobs except heavy duty work like prying and chopping. For something more stout a full tang knife of 4”-5” is very capable and still a handy size. You don’t need fancy steels

. this sheath actually passes my quality and functional tests, so not having to go out and buy a custom sheath for this knife right away is a big financial bonus for me, and likely for you too! If you are dead set on a leather dangler sheath, but don't want to pay the price for a Sky Storm Leatherworks solution (Yum!), check out the Blind horse knives #6 dangler pouch sheaths for about half that price.

The handle is a perfect size both men and women, and it has a comfortable, non-slip rubber coating. It comes shaving-sharp out of the package and holds an edge very well. The length is perfect for general outdoor use such as camping, hiking, fishing, boating, biking, etc. You can process large game, fish, birds, or most anything else in North America

It works fine for me and given the knife's risk of rusting I'd rather have this design than be able to strike with the spine, but that's personal preference. Handle- handle is a nice, robust micarta which is very well aligned with the tang and very comfortable. It has bow grooves on each side if you need to start a fire the old fashioned way, and it has a nice, wide brass insert at the rear for a lanyard. Not as "pretty" as a hard wood, but never needs waxing, won't warp and is as durable as anything you could use
