Until I really give this knife a few months worth of work, the only stainless steels I would rate better would likely be CPM 154 and CPM SV30, respectively. A big knife might seem like it's better but they are usually less practical when it comes to fine carving tasks and are heavy on your belt or in your bag. If you look at people who actually spend a lot of time in the bush most of them are carrying knives that have a blade length of between 4-7in and a hatchet for chopping wood. If you need to cut through dense brush you can get a Cold Steel machete for around $20 as well. If you already have a Mora Companion I'd say just try to save up some more money and look at knives in the $50-$100 range

There's a reason why these guys are hailed among bushcraft enthusiasts, and now I get it. This knife feels good in hand. Good weight, thick grip, and thick blade (2.5mm is approx 1/8" thick)

I have batoned it through firewood with nary an issue. Just don’t try to use it as a crowbar.

But for those wanting to ensure the grind angle isn’t altered even slightly, from shoulder to edge, some 3,000 grit or higher paper or stones will be needed to really see what this blade geometry is capable of, as well as to keep it there after use, along with subsequent stropping. Sheath knives are simple, generally sturdy, and a very large variety of shapes and lengths. Over many years I have found something inexpensive but well made like a Morakniv Companion handles most knife jobs except heavy duty work like prying and chopping. For something more stout a full tang knife of 4”-5” is very capable and still a handy size. You don’t need fancy steels

I know the sheath comes in for some criticism, but it fits the blade nicely, seems tough enough not to get cut through if you fall with the knife on you, and fits tight enough that the blade doesn't fall out, so I have no issues with the sheath. The handle is very comfortable. I have a large hand, in fact I have two of them, and the handle of the Companion is broad enough and thick enough for me to hold it happily. Actually, I can recommend this to people with arthritis because the handle is so rounded and easy to hold

The handle is a perfect size both men and women, and it has a comfortable, non-slip rubber coating. It comes shaving-sharp out of the package and holds an edge very well. The length is perfect for general outdoor use such as camping, hiking, fishing, boating, biking, etc. You can process large game, fish, birds, or most anything else in North America

The handle is lovely and ergonomic, with a non slip coating. The blade is just the right size for most outdoor activity and does not look threatening, especially in day glo orange! The sheath is functional and has no trace of pretension to it!!! The knife surprisingly was not razor sharp..
