 The machined metal cap feels very nice and is quite heavy. Grip was a tad small. I also prefer the way Twsbis write though the Moonman was just fine for me.

 Strikes a good balance for me between quality and a pen I could afford to lose, so I don't worry about dragging it all over to meetings and such. I think it's a very nice looking pen for the price if you like demonstrators. 

I have been very happy with my most recent purchase, a Twsbi 580 AL. Much nicer than the ECO for feel, I just prefer the metal grip on it. Strikes a good balance for me between quality and a pen I could afford to lose, so I don't worry about dragging it all over to meetings and such. Now I have a question for an EDC pen. I've used a Lamy Safari (M) for quite some time and changed to Muji Notebooks with Gel Pens for couple of years now. I've also used Multipens for taking fast notes at work and at home, I really like the flexibility of 3 or more colors. Anyhow, I kinda grew tired of the usual colors, blue red and green and I started missing the smoothness and character (line variation) a fountain pen brought to me, so I bought a Kaweco Sport with a fine nib and some Rohrer &amp; Klinger ink.


However the Kaweco is way to small for my hands and I start to cramp after few lines. Lamy M is too broad and wet for my Muji A5 Notebook, the Kaweco fine nib was a bit too fine. I have some other FP at my disposal but they are not really a good EDC for me, the nib is too flexible (Noodler Ahab, Montblanc 348).


I am looking for a recommendation for a medium-large pen with a thicker grip that and a nib that has not as much flex. Ideally a bit thicker than a Kaweco fine nib but thinner than a Lamy Safari medium nib.

Ideally something that isn't too expensive, not because I am cheap but I'd like to avoid losing a 200+ dollar fountain pen :) 


So far I've heared great things about the TWSBI Eco and recently I discovered Moonman fountain pens, Not sure if they are any good?

I'd be happy to hear some other recommendations, if you have the time to answer.

Looking for a new EDC

They're incredibly well made! The nibs are really smooth. They're comparable to or better than most of my more expensive pens. Both PenBBS and Moonman (aka Majohn) are well worth the price and the wait.

how's the quality in general on PENBBS pens? Any specifics that I should avoid?

  Size and balance: This is a slightly large pen, about the size, when capped, of a medium magic marker. It has no clip for the pocket or notebook and would be a bit difficult to carry around without a case. Fully assembled it is a bit heavy. That said, uncapped, it is comfortable to hold and well balanced, as long as the cap is not posted

 On ordinary notebook paper it dries faster than on higher quality smooth paper. On ordinary paper it can feel a bit rough, but on higher quality paper its as smooth as silk.  Overall: looking at other reviews, it seems that construction quality might vary. But the pen I got works great

I took a chance on the Moonman TI fountain pen and, at first glance, am glad I did. The reason I say "take a chance" is because it doesn't show up on any "best of" lists in comparison to a pen like the TWSBI Eco, a competitor. This review is based on first use so I can't comment right now on long-term durability.  Based on my first look of the Moonman T1 one, I think I'll like it more than the Ecos, of which I have 2

 It's not terrible. It's just not great.  How often would I ink this up? Probably not often. It's not going to be my daily pen

 Not the end of the world, but for the price, I would expect a bit better from the pen.  The bottom line; take about the same money and get a TWSBI Eco.

Special "CUSTOM" 
It can be said that "CUSTOM" is the glory name. Moderate thickness of axis, length, nib, and the sight that shaved extra decoration. The attitude to pursue supreme writing intently - this is the "CUSTOM". However this "CUSTOM 823" have very interesting sucking system. The system is "Plunger system". 

Enjoyable filling mechanism 
This system use nature of "vacuum". You can enjoy mechanism through skeleton body. Turn the knob and pull stick... pull, pull. Let's push the knob. The ink is filling in a moment ! And when you write, gently loosen the knob (for flowing ink to nib). Ink is dancing in the skeleton axis. Interesting. Can't forget the scene if you look once. Certainly you can't wait out of ink. So, please write, write, write ! But don't forget. This is "CUSTOM". 

Why Plunger system ? 
Please remember the general attitude of "CUSTOM". Usefulness for writing. "Plunger system" can pump up more ink (1.5ml). This is the most quantity among regular line. Around 1935 - using rotary system was not popular. The proposition was "prevent ink from leaking and store more quantity". Plunger system have both points. Now, cartridge and converter system become popular. But not be sepia color. 

nib 
Nib is 14K (#15), large size. It's majestic and arched shape is elegant. But of course, essence is writing touch. The moderate hardness can endure long time writing. And moderate softness tell characteristic repulsion. Good balance. 
Ink - This system is peculiar, so strongly recommend to use INK-70 (PILOT products). This bottle have ink reservoir. 
Equipped accessories - Of course, special box only. Cartridge ? Converter ? What is it ?

 I also have the Custom 74 which is also a fantastic pen in its own right. I have developed a lot of respect for Pilot and realize that their pens are every bit as good as many of the pricier brands. This is my opinion but after reading many many reviews, other seem to agree. The quality of construction is superb

Having many fountain pens, and a few other Pilot FP, the CUSTOM 823 was one of my personal "grail" pens. I have a Pilot Metropolitan, the best $15 fountain pen. I also have the Custom 74 which is also a fantastic pen in its own right. I have developed a lot of respect for Pilot and realize that their pens are every bit as good as many of the pricier brands

 This is my opinion but after reading many many reviews, other seem to agree. The quality of construction is superb. The design is nothing earth breaking; it is a classic cigar shaped pen. The uniqueness of this pen comes from the filling system

absolutely lovely

 and a lot of that's because of the filling mechanism. It's got some metal components even though the pen is mostly resin and it's going to be similar in weight. If you're familiar with like the Lobby Mm or the Pilot vanishing Point, it's going to be right in that ring, so the pen is very evenly balanced. It's got the rod inside for the vacuum filler, which kind of distributes the weight throughout the whole body of the ten, and the cap is not as significant of weight as the body of the pen, so that means that it's gonna feel pretty good in your hand whether you have it posted or unposted

 I Think a lot of people consider it to be a workhorse pen. We've even seen celebrities like Neil Gaiman are fans of using this pen on a regular basis and for good reason. I'm going to cover all the aspects of this pen in this video and I think this one kind of falls into the category of actually attainable and pretty affordable Holy Grail pen territory So let's explore why that is here in the U.s

 The difference here, however, is in the nib. I got a medium nib, and it’s buttery smooth with just a hint of feedback. The vacuum filling system really impressed me, as I get a complete fill in just one go.

I'm a newbie as far as fountain pens go. This is a bit of a novelty for me. I don't do a lot of writing but will go through a Gell pen in a month just signing checks. So this is mostly for signature purposes
