 You have to forcefully DRAG it backwards (for the forward/backward motion of vacuuming). Miele Engineers - You obviously have NOT tried to vacuum carpets in your own home with this. PLEASE REDESIGN - you are making people suffer!!! If possible (which most of the options I've seen do not provide you with this), I would definitely recommend the C3 Kona Canister Vacuum itself, together with the Electrical Wand, but NOT this powerbrush - there is a much lighter version of the electrical powerbrush available (and it costs less).

 Here are the main issues we have with this Powerbrush (which is the reason why this vacuum model is being rated with 4 stars, not 5):  Powerbrush model - SEB 228 Electro Plus. This thing weighs 6.5 lbs (by itself, without the wand). While it might not seem like a lot - it is

We are moving to a new house soon and are looking for a decent vacuum, but would also like to be able to clean our current one before we move! Our last vacuum was a Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Lift Off. It had great suction, but we have long hair and 2 cats, and the hair was always tangled in the brush roll and the brush roll burned out frequently. It was more of a PITA to clean the vacuum.

Our current apartment is mostly carpet, with a kitchen and bathroom that has tile. 800ish square feet. 

Our new house: 1400ish square feet. Unfinished basement, hardwood floors in the living room and on the stairs, tile in the 2 bathrooms and kitchen, carpeted in the upstairs hallway and in both bedrooms.

We don't have a budget. Preferably looking for something with a hose attachment, if possible, something not too bulky - our last one was so clunky, but since we will have a bigger place bulkiness won't be a huge issue; that can clean hardwood floors, tile, carpet, stairs, and can handle long hair and pet hair.

Recommendations for a good vacuum for carpeted and hardwood floor for people with long hair and cats?

 The ergonomic handle with the switch on it is great. Finally, the interior where the bags sits stays super clean, and I love not having to touch the nastiness you vacuum up like you have to with a non-bagged unit like a Dyson. Who would want to do that? Gross.  Overall I am glad I purchased

 I don’t absolutely love it, though.  My main issue is with the powerbrush. The connection between the wand and the powerbrush is not great. Maybe it is just my specific powerbrush, but I have to struggle and wiggle and push hard to get it to snap in pretty much every time, which is irritating because I switch back-and-forth between the powerbrush and the non-powerbrush quite a bit (I have one full floor of porcelain tile floors with area rugs)

 Moves and snaps in with ease. Buttons easy to push with your feet. I must have gotten a lemon powerbrush originally. Moral: great vacuum and if everything you get doesn’t work smoothly from the start, exchange it

These are German made vacuums designed for long life, good filtration, and easy maintenance. This one's an upright (if you prefer that form factor over a canister), but you can detach the floor head and collapse the handle for portability when cleaning stairs with the hose.

Canadian here!! Any recommendations on upright?

 Saves me having to bend over to change settings on the floor unit and having to walk back to the floor unit just to make a change. With this I can change on the fly. It has plenty of extension and the electro extension wand is built like a brick s__t house, tough, though a bit heavy. I like the tools that are handily stored in the main housing

 Cons: None  Comfort Hand Piece (Control Handle) Pros: comfortable, feels good in the hand, controls are easy to use and laid out nicely. Cons: sometimes you can accidently change the power setting while vacuuming if your hand/finger pushes against the control panel.  Parquet Attachment Pros: Lightweight, can flip between hard floors and carpet settings with button control, will fit into the canister slot for storage or just taking a break from vacuuming. Cons: none  Canister Housing Pros: lightweight, sturdy, rolls easily, nice attachment storage, easy to change bag/filters, power cord automatic wind, protective bumpers all around, LED lighting is cool looking Cons: LED lights don't stay on long enough to be practical after turning the power off

Exceptionally Quiet and Exhaust Air Is Pure

We feel that using the vacuum is very easy on your back compared to our experience with upright units. The hose in this model with the pivoting head makes it easy and less burdensome, since you don't have to worry about the hose getting twisted up on you. Switching attachments is also very quick and easy, and the different mechanisms feel like the rest of the unit, well made and durable.

I have a lot of hair and am tired of it being caught in my vacuum/roller brush and having to cut/dog it out. I’m also extremely allergic to dust/mites and realize I need a good vacuum after spending many nights now itching, sneezing, and wheezing. 

I’ve been looking at Miele or Sebo since they seem to be the most mentioned, no clue what model.  Definitely need sealed bag/machine that won’t leak dust, HEPA, and would like to be able to clean sofas, curtains, my bed/sheets, and getting into all the corners.

Flexible head/roller would be cool but I hear  these can be harder to clean... so I guess if the attachments are good I don’t necessarily need an flex head.

If you're shopping at a mid-range price point, the best HEPA vacuum for allergies we've tested is the Airsign HEPA Vacuum. It doesn't have the grab-and-go convenience of the Roborock H7, but it is cheaper and better-suited for longer clean-ups due to its corded design. It has an onboard HEPA filter with charcoal filtration, helping to seal in fine allergens and minimize odor, and uses biodegradable dirtbags with a built-in seal cover. It's partially made from recycled materials, which is great if you're looking for a more environmentally-conscious vacuum. It feels decently well-built for the most part and has a simple design that's easy to maintain.
