The Merrell Moab 2 Mid Waterproof is a comfortable and affordable hiking boot that feels good right out of the box. Testers were blister-free over dozens of miles, and the arch support is some of the best in the category. The insole and EVA midsole provide excellent cushioning, and the padded tongue minimizes chaffing during ankle flexion. The suede and mesh upper don'tlook waterproof, but in reality, it offers above-average protection through shallow water crossings and mud. We also appreciate the traction pattern on the sole, which reduces build-up in mucky conditions. 
We think the Moab 2 Mid offers a terrific mid-height option, but they don't provide the same support as a high-ankle boot. In addition, the suede and mesh upper have less rigidity than other models with nubuck or thicker nylon. And, despite their shorter height, the thick cushioning made for some especially sweaty feet on warm days. Though we didn't necessarily notice a huge difference, these boots are in the middle of the pack for weight, even though they don't provide as much ankle coverage. However, all things considered, the out-of-the-box comfort, solid all-around performance, and approachable price point make these shoes an excellent value.

Out of the box I’ve never found a more comfortable and well priced boot as the Merrell MOAB. I like the vent because my feet sweat ridiculously and you can always add a goretex socks if that’s your thing (and the GTX versions is actually easier to find). Durability? The new pair I have is less durable than previous pairs, but for what you sound like you’re doing I think they’ll hold up just fine. Also, they are readily available in wide widths

 It features our M Select Drive waterproof membrane which is both breathable and waterproof. So even though this boot looks really messy, it allows your foot to sweat and that sweat will evaporate out of the boot, but it does not allow water into the boot. This boot, features our typical narrow fit, which is going to be snug in the heel, precise over this instep and really roomy in that toe box. So it's an anatomical fit and it's comfortable right out of the box so you can gear up and hit the trail today

 Spot on, again. Design: I like the color (Beluga) more than I anticipated. The Vibram soles are pretty impressive. Good grip, flexible enough to do any activity easily, but stiff and protective when walking on rocks

 So if you do have a little bit wider foot or you want like a little more breathing room, um, maybe consider looking into a wide version of the boot. Uh, it's always good. A good rule of thumb to get a pair of shoes and have a thumb width from the tip of your toe to the actual front of the toe box. So if you're wearing your boot to, you know, be able to put your thumb like this and your toe

 your big toe actually stops here. that way you have room for when you're like descending hills and steep grades and stuff like that. Um, so your toe isn't jamming into the front of your toe box the whole time and you don't get black toenails and ingrowns and all those issues I did just recently get back from hiking um, Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina and I would say that's probably been one of the hardest mountains that I have done, especially with the descent. There was boulders, there were ladders, there were steep grades, there were cables to get up and down stuff, and unfortunately for me, my toes did end up slamming into the toe box of my shoes

 I'm going to recommend they sell these boots separately. I know the issue is not width because these are wide. For Merrell boots I'd recommend going cheap if for daily wear, the more costly don't seem to equal better quality. For me these were a waste of money! They're great while they last - about two months - at this rate if I kept buying these Merrells new, it would cost me about $800 a year!

Quality is Not Danner level IMHO

 We will not be wearing rubber boots because we will not. We refuse to sweat from the knee down and so we're going to be wearing Danner prone horns check them out.
