 I wouldn't be surprised if the opposite happened, which the brightness dropping to prevent overheating after a while, but this makes no sense. It happens even if I am not touching it, so it's not a switch or contact issue (the switch feels good and I never have weird behavior when intentionally switching modes). I had it sitting on the edge of the table in a low mode to illuminate something I was working on, and then BOOM it goes up. It's really bad when I am trying to use it at low power for looking at stuff up close and it flashes my eyeballs

 First of all, Manker has quickly become one of my favorite flashlight makers, I own more Manker than I do Nitecore, Lumintop, Olight, etc and their build quality, features, and value are among the best out there. In the neutral warm tint, its got really nice color reproduction, but its not too amber or yellowish like some Neutral whites can be. If you are comparing this to other 2 AA lights like the Nitecore MT2A basically it boils down to this. The Manker is technically brighter, but the Nitecore has a further throw (about 50% more)

I'd put the Convoy 4x18A sbt90.2 ahead of the K1 sbt90.2, just because the convoy has much better battery life. There's a lot Convoy makes that I'd consider better options than stuff from Hank, actually

This might be more subjective than objective, and I'm only a year or so into this hobby however I'm finding myself asking more and more where to from here (in a way less dramatic way than that sounded)? I'll never be a massive collector, I'm more of a 'thats my good EDC light' and 'thats my pocket thrower' type of guy. I have no aspirations to have 12 D4V2's in all the colours and emitter types, I just want one good one of each of the lights I'll use. Then over the years maybe trade up to nicer things.

Seems from reading here a lot all roads sort of lead back to Hank. I keep comparing things to the D18 or the K1 and for the money they almost never stack up. All I'm left thinking is that is now the time I start saving for a 'fancy' light? Again tho, are any of them actually any good or are you paying $1000 for some fancy designed titanium that wouldn't perform as well as the old favourite D4V2 (as an example)

So the question to you lot is, if you're not going for a more is more approach to acquiring lights what are u doing to keep the hobby alive.

And yes - are there actually any decent 'fancy' lights worth looking at?

 You know you really can't go wrong, especially if your budget is on the tight side. You can get one of these now. These here are budget friendly lights, they're, not extremely expensive.
