Maybe someday I'll figure out which it is: authentically cheap or a knock-off If you're looking for a can opener for under $10 that works and works well, then this will suit your needs. If you're looking for an item that you could basically pass on to your kids when they move out the of the house someday, well

Nothing beats the EZ-Duz-It can opener. Google it. It's great. So good it has a cult following and it's around ten bucks

If this is true, then I'm truly bummed, since I really don't want a enormous electric can opener taking up valuable space when I don't even use canned goods that often. I wish that someone would take this good construction idea, and just redesign it a tiny bit so that the blade dives deeper into the can, rather than practically skimming the surface, allowing the can metal to bend and avoid the blade altogether. Or maybe that wouldn't work either. Maybe the can metal is just too soft these days

And, OMG, what a pleasant switch from every other can opener I had tried. It cuts smoothly, fast, and is amazingly easy to turn the handle. Cans are open in a moment, with no cussing like I always did when struggling with my overpriced Calphalon, who make decent cookware (I own a couple pieces, which factored into the can opener purchase) but Calphalon is clueless when it comes to designing a good can opener. So, if you want a great can opener at a great price, buy the EZ-DUZ-IT

I wonder why other companies bother making flimsy versions, this one cleans their clock.

EZ-DUZ-IT can opener is American-made and seems very sturdy so far. Have only had it a few months, but seems like it will last much longer than brands mentioned by OP

I don't know about you folks, but I love me some good solid metal, chromed, and stamped 'Merica made products. This thing is a quality piece of respectfully simple engineering, There's nothing more to want out of this device. The handle feels great. The weight is nice and satisfying, I said it

There are only a couple of downsides that I see: #1 The metal was scratched when it was new out of the packaging, which was slightly disappointing, but hey, it is probably going to get scratched soon enough anyway. #2 After hand-washing, a bit of water gets stuck under the overlapping metal parts at the top where it "hinges." I doubt it will actually be a problem, as long as I stay aware of it and make sure that it dries out thoroughly. These two things are minor, and I would totally buy this product again

She used it once, and said that it opened smoothly, so that was at least a relief. But then it gets worse. After that one use, she rinsed, patted it down with a dishcloth, and set it to air dry on a rack (i let her know that it should not be soaked or left wet for too long) and two days later when i was about to use it, i realize it had two big rust spots where one side of the opener meets the other. She had only used it that one time, and took proper care of it, i was dumbfounded

Thankfully, I'd kept my old Kitchenaid manual can opener. I took it apart, cleaned it and sharpened the wheel with a metal file and knife sharpening rod. Keeping the old Kitchenaid, sending this to Goodwill.

TO THE MANUFACTURERS: ------------------------- Folks often put these in dishwashers anyways, manufacturers might as well make these, or versions of these, dishwasher safe. If you are looking for competitive advantage or at least differentiation, perhaps you can find it there.

Still working after over a year. 2. Basic can opener; easy to use, hard to break 3. Goes in the dishwasher just fine, don't know if it's supposed to, but I've washed it in the dishwasher a dozen times at least and it's fine

Anyway, I always told them about a can opener that my dad bought back in the 60s or 70s and how that can opener lasted at least 25 years! And it was not treated with kid gloves: It was seriously abused by three growing kids who ate a lot of canned food. Lo and behold, an Amazon search a few weeks ago brings me to a totally reasonably priced can opener that is a mirror image to the one my dear old dad bought decades ago (except the color of the handle on dad's was red, while mine is black). I thank you, makers of these can openers: You've given me some hope that not all our essential kitchen tool manufacturing has moved abroad and that I don't have to spend 30 dollars a year on can openers; instead, I pay ten bucks and get one that--if I take care of it--will last just as long as my dear old dad's 30 or so year-old can opener. Thank you for "Made in USA Can Opener"! Now I can SHOW my friends the can opener instead of describing it as if it were a relic of the past, and advise them to buy it and never buy the Chinese manufactured garbage sold in all the big box stores

For me, the price was reasonable, delivery was prompt and FREE! No complaints from me.
