M.S.L SP200 for a little under half price, well it just arrived today and I can't believe how much my Sundara's especially have improved, so much more open sounding and I don't have to have the bass cranked through PeaceEQ to get the slam I've craved from these headphones. So yeah, if you recently bought a new pair of planars or other hard to drive headphones, be extra sure you're driving them properly

 Definitely punches above its weight class in this regard. The overall design is to be praised too; it is intelligent, compact and simple to use and understand. " As an amplifier, it is excellent. It is surprisingly very neutral with just the right amount of "tubey-ness" in the low and high end, although it is difficult to notice this with some songs

 Not to mention the fact that it is balanced.  The only real downside is that the RCA input is quite poor in comparison to the balanced XLR inputs. When switching between the two whether I used the balanced out or 1/4" output I noticed a genuine increase in overall quality using the XLRs. I assume that this is because it is a $100 balanced tube amp which is genuinely amazing in its own regard, so clearly the R&D went into that aspect of things

As everyone else has said, the P20's build quality is something else at this price. It is made of aluminum and feels sturdy. Definitely punches above its weight class in this regard. The overall design is to be praised too; it is intelligent, compact and simple to use and understand

A well built, surprisingly neutral amplifier.

 Try using a well made 3 amp power supply if you can find one. Next, hooking it directly to the headphone output of my iPad Mini 4 resulted in loud, random crackling sounds. WTF? OK, so I moved to using it with my JDS Labs ODAC DAC hooked to my Apple PowerMac desktop and the loud crackling stopped. But, wait, what is going on with the highs? They sounded strident and distorted and not in a good tube way

 Oh, and Loxjie absolutely needs to put an Off/On switch on this thing. That's right, there is none. It turns on as soon as the power plug is inserted. You can push in the wiggly front knob to turn in on/off but I would much prefer to see a rocker switch on the back for power

 Given the flakey, under amp'ed switching power supply they include, I would NOT want to leave this thing running 24x7 due to heat and fire concerns with this cheap power supply.  Finally, don't expect this unit to produce full blown "tooobe sound". I have an inexpensive Chinese Qinpu Q-2 from several years back that I bought for the same price that does much better in this regard. This is not the headphone amp you want for creating lucious tube sound

 Ah, much better. More defined bass and the strident, distorted highs went away.  I did all the initial testing with the unbalanced audio-in and the unbalanced audio-out jacks. Yeah, this headphone amp is suppose to be audio nirvana using the XLR balanced jacks but it should also perform at least with decent sound on the far more common unbalanced jacks

First Impressions are OK, Requires Mods

  Power: 5/10: now this is where this amp truly finds its downside and such becomes its true demise. I find that almost all of my headphones struggle to reach an enjoyable volume. Fostex t50rp modhouse argon, t50rp zmf classic, t50rp Mayflower electronics version vi, hifiman he400i, he4xx, he560 v2, he500, he1000, hifiman editionX v2, hifiman susvara, hifiman ananda, hifiman sundara, advanced alphas, mrspeakers aeon, mrspeakers ether c flow, audeze lcd2's, audeze lcdx, monolith m1060, monolith m1060c, Sennheiser hd660s, hd650, hd600, akg k712, audioquest nighthawk, beyerdynamic dt880 premium (600ohm), beyerdynamic dt1990, grado ps2000e, AudioTechnica ATH-A2000z and several others all struggle desperately to reach reasonable volumes. Some of those I listed can be enjoy with this amp but it comes at the cost of having the loxjie p20 completely maxed out and turned all the way up

 With that said though if you have moderately efficient to very efficient headphones (especially if you have balanced efficient headphones)b then this amp is a total and complete win. It looks nice, it's built nice and has one of the cleanest sounds I've heard for under $150 and I've heard very very very many. Despite not having a true tube sound it's still very warm and pleasant. It's s nice relaxed sound for easy listening

 If any at all. Despite being a "tube" amplifier this actually sounds very much like a solid state amp with exceptionally clean sound. Now this could just be that the stock tubes are crap and I've ordered several sets of much better and higher quality pairs to test this. Will update later on to announce my findings

 Honestly can't get any better for this price.  Sound: 7/10: this is where it gets tricky..

 At the time of this review, its only in its 1st hour of play time. This being my first tube, the sound is surely not neutral. But it adds flavors towards my preference greatly. Compairing this to the default amp from iFi zen dac v2 or my JDS Labs Element 2, p20 ramps up more on sound stage and deep bass

Tube amp under $100, i have nothing to complain about. Right out of the box it sounded great. At the time of this review, its only in its 1st hour of play time. This being my first tube, the sound is surely not neutral

 This guy I have to my left is the legendary VOX AC 15 and I'm thinking is little to no introduction Because like I said, it's pretty famous little brother to the big AC 30 This is a perfect amp to have in the house If you want that classic VOX tone, but don't want to genuinely blow your windows out with the proper AC 30 It's got all the sounds in that we all know all the VOX chiminess that we all love. It's a great thing There's two variants. This is the greenback version There's also an alnico blue version Like I said, this is a perfect amp for in the house if you want that classic VOX tone But people play stadiums with these these have a sound of their own You can get them cooking a lot quicker than you can an AC 30 and a lot lower volume as well So you're not disrupting the stage or your kids sleeping upstairs What you're cooking inside are two EL84s in the power amp section and three 12ax7s in the preamp section There's a built-in spring reverb proper spring and a built-in tremolo, which is one of the nicest tremolos, I think I've ever heard. It's technically a two-channel amp, but it's not in the conventional way

 If you don't know what a bloom is I'm probably not going to describe it very well, but it's when you play a chord It obviously comes through straight away, but then the sound itself kind of follows it like it blooms up So it won't come across on camera. Let's crank the air the top boost channel and get I Not gonna play Queen not anymore anyways That's what you can get when you crank the channel volumes on an AC 15 and it's not exactly loud I mean, I've got a live now because I'm in an empty room in the center of Newcastle with loads of Geordies going crazy outside but quieter I could play that in a room with someone sleeping in the door in the door sleeping there or Newcastle's at your center stuck in my mind sleeping in the door Sleep in air next door and you wouldn't make them at all and it's not all that nice bloom at a low volume It's great. Don't know how vox managed to do it

 So let's go over the top boost channel now The volume on the top boost channel is a lot more sensitive to where it's at. It starts to break up a lot quicker at lower volumes so the Normal volume was on halfway when I play that little clean bit to begin with This is what the top boost channel is on halfway and the EQ is set straight up in the air What I love from VOX amps is it has a like a bloom. If you don't know what a bloom is I'm probably not going to describe it very well, but it's when you play a chord It obviously comes through straight away, but then the sound itself kind of follows it like it blooms up So it won't come across on camera. You need to come in and try one for yourselves, but it's So like there's a tiny delay and the sound just becomes super full and rich and chimey and voxey and Yeah, that's enough of me talking jibber-jabber

 Unless it's blasting then yeah, because people's heads will explode will explode the tremolo. There's the depth and a speed knob

 And I'm done talking. Let's get some VOX tones

 So this is in the normal channel. The channel volume is just under halfway and the mass of volume is on about 2.

 What you can do with a normal channel as well is crank the volume on the channel and bring the mass volume down

 So again, you're not disrupting your neighbors or blowing your little cat's head off

 And we'll get some of that cool VOX grit

 I can play that entire song if I wanted to. So let's go over the top boost channel now
