I'm 6'4" and deep in dad bod territory. Most backpacks are not proportional to my torso. I've used a messenger bag for work for some time, but am returning to school this fall and would prefer to go back to backpacking around campus.

Some of the designs from Topo Designs have caught my eye, even if they are marketed as travel bags rather than for daily use (such as [this](https://topodesigns.com/products/convertible-travel-bag-laptop-backpack-30l?variant=40136110899253)). I also need something that can hold a 15 inch laptop.

Suggestions for other brands or models that suit us bigger-bodied folk are appreciated. Or if you have experience with one of these travel bags from Topo. Thanks!

 But Osprey doesn’t excel in laptop back packs. While I had no problem packing my laptop and its accessories, the backpack became limited when I wanted to add other stuff. As I packed the main compartment with the majority of my stuff, the other compartments became useless. These are some larger zippers I think these are a number a number ten zipper so that's really appropriate and actually works well so you could pull both sides. Not quite big enough to put my Ti-84 plus CE calculator, the laptop compartment isn’t quite big enough for my Legion 5 pro (which is a 16-inch screen but is 17 in overall dimensions) the water bottle compartment is super cool but is pretty tight on my 32oz Nalgene. The nonscratch compartment is a little finicky to open, and the accessory compartment only has one zipper pull

Another big thing, the sternum strap, and the waist strap seem very thin, I would not use them when it's loaded, too much weight with not enough padding would likely hurt more using them than without

 There is already a clip for your keys. Maybe a name badge or wallet? I also had no use for the compression straps on the outside and kept them in their convenient stash pocket for most of the testing. Good for commuting

I'm comparing this to two packs; One is a "business" back pack and my daily commuter, made by a luggage manufacturer.  The Apogee is significantly lighter, with far deeper pockets.  The second pack is similar in nature, and of a well known brand known for ruggedness.  I would say the Apogee is a direct competitor here

  The "easy access" pocket is roomy and seems to be waterproof.  The Front pocket has more than ample space to segregate gear from the padded main compartment and is easy to reach.  It has one zipper here where the main compartment has dual zippers.  I would prefer to see dual zippers on all compartments for easy of entry/ use/ closure

I found the cargo straps on the upper portion of the bag to be inconvenient and often in the way of the zippers.   I also wish there was a place to stowe the torso strap in lieu of leaving either dangling or connected w/o using, as this position seemed to rub against my lower back.  The straps are too long to not connect and dangle/ sway consistently. 

Apogee Pack is a big one....

 So if you're concerned about comfort and you know how it wears on your bag, the Osprey Apology is definitely a great option.  As with most other Osprey backpacks, on either side, there are small little elastic loops right here so if you had to hang like a radio here, your sunglasses or any other additional accessory pouches or whatever, you could totally hang them from there. One thing I do feel like could be improved is just that this strap is long and there's nothing to tie it down and they don't have any keepers or anything like that. It would have been nice if they just had like an elastic loop around it just so you can kind of tuck the strap away and it wouldn't be dangling around. It would just been one small nice little feature to have

 whereas this one has actually got some cushiness to it which is very nice. and it's uh, on the back panel there is this kind of this one little mesh material that kind of lines it and it has like the foam padding behind it just to give it some airflow. Now this is not going to be as great as the Osp Tropos which has like essentially almost a backless panel where your back only touches the air mesh. but this one, you know, your back is still going to touch that foam right there

 There's only one zipper bowl just to let you guys know. Um, and it's uh, I was wish that there were two zipper pulls, but it's just the one. which is unfortunate. and this is kind of where you access your administration section

Osprey Apogee - Perfect EDC Size!

 Currently, what I have in here is the 20 ounce water bottle that I featured in a lot of my other daily bag videos and that fits in there really comfortably. You can see that the compartment is nice and deep, so anything that you place in here isn't going to fall out accidentally and then because of this material. That one also has a pretty comfortable harness system. It's not quite as comfortable as this one

 It has external water bottle pockets, a really well protected laptop sleeve, so it really has some great options to check out. It's going to have maybe a little bit more of a tactical vibe, but if you're looking for something that's just very comfortable and it's going to offer you a lot of different ways to access your stuff, and that's going to be a fantastic option to check out. And then the last option that I'll mention here if you have a little bit of a higher budget is the Air Tech Pack 2, which is a very minimal and stylish tech bag that has a comfortable harness system. It has a ton of organizational options if you like for everything that you carry with you to have its own spot, and that bag is really a dream for just kind of organizing everything

For several years I have been using a Columbia Silver Ridge 25L backpack, and I've had no complaints. When the Apogee arrived, I was quick to move all of my gear into the new pack! I am happy to say that everything fits just fine, including a 15 inch HP laptop to boot! The pack fits my large frame just fine, and feels comfortable when hiking around. I really like the water bottle pockets on the sides, and there is an opening for hydration bladder use as well- this wasn't listed in the features. Overall, a well built backpack with good storage options!
