 It was only due to my longtime buy-in to the Livescribe ecosystem and my decent stock of unused Livescribe paper that I decided to buy.  So far, glad I did. As someone that is very familiar with Livescribe and how the system works, this is a very solid upgrade over the Echo pens I've been using-until-breaking for a decade, and is a million miles ahead of the old Pulse pens, which were basically like writing with flagpoles.  One key note, related to previous thoughts: Do not buy if you're not technical

 But, if you use slot in cap to dislodge pen ink refills, the ballbearing pulls out of the refill head (the "ball point" in the ball-point pen, literally), and you get ink everywhere if not careful. So, if you thought you might want to use different color inks and will be taking refills in and out before the ink is spent, get ready to make a huge mess. You can always use your teeth, though.   Regarding ink refills you have to swap out when ink runs dry. Pen gives you a pinhole on the clothing clip of the pen cap to slide the spent ink wand into, to dislodge the old one from the barrel.  They work great until they don't.  These need user replaceable batteries, even if they must be purchased from the vendor. Another land-fill item brought to you by.

Battery life bad after 8 months

The Symphony is not quite as light as the specs indicate, which matters because a digital pen is already heavier than a normal pen. Livescribe has been making pens for over 10 years, but hasn't accomplished much in terms of form. The Symphony is actually 2 ounces heavier than the Aegir (w/ cap); but 2 ounces lighter w/o cap.  One obviously has to expect that a digital pen will be heavier than a normal pen -- (Livescribe has made no effort to overcome this reality; one wonders if Apple could) -- but for a $100+ pen, it feels cheep

The Neo Smartpen M1+ also has a comfortable round shape like the Livescribe Symphony and non-smart pens. It's easy to write with, turns on when you start writing or press power, and can be linked to the Neo Studio App to show your writing in real-time, or you can upload it after the fact. You can transcribe handwriting into text by a page at a time, edit line strength and colors in the app, and record audio to sync with your notes. Scribblings are handily arranged by notebook &#40;as well as Google Calendar or Outlook-synced planner&#41; to easily distribute to your digital world. The app works in conjunction with this pen extremely well.
Unfortunately, the M1+ offers less accurate transcriptions from handwriting into text than the Livescribe Symphony. It still performs well enough to be helpful, and if you just need to go back over your notes to study, you may not use this feature very often. You also have to be sure to buy Neo's compatible notebooks, but that's the case with most smart pen options. All told, this is an excellent option with a great accompanying app. You'll just have to do a little more editing in post to touch up your notes.

Great product, saves me time and headache!

 It comes with the standard little USB cable which is interchangeable with any other you might have, but this one has a little nearly gone and also comes with a spare ink cartridge. These are a standard cartridge type known as D1 then not manufactured or sold on you, but any you find should be compatible. although Neo does have a list of recommended ones from specific manufacturers which you can find our website. The pen needs charging when it arrives and the red light here indicates that is charging

 We essentially bought this as an alternative to a graphics tablet, which we may still get in future Anyway, their pen arrives in a sleek, minimal box, definitely taking some cues from Apple in terms of presentation. The form factor of the pen is totaling like an orb, and most of the other options out there are definitely on the chunkier side, so it's great to feel as it does. Their build quality and design is very good. It's a nice object in and of itself and doesn't look or feel particularly like something digital
