 Hi, skiers. I'm Jeff from SkiEssentials.com. Welcome to our 2021 ski test videos. Today we're talking about the Line Sir Francis Bacon.

 This ski's been out for a long time, or at least the name's been around for a long time. One of Eric Pollard's skis, Eric Pollard, is now reaching legendary status within the ski industry.

 You know, his name's been thrown around for a long time now, and he's had pro model skis with Line for a long time now. Now he's got kind of two different lines of pro model skis.

 He's got kind of the surfy collection and the fish collection. This one falling into the first of those two, the surfy collection.

 So the Sir Francis Bacon has always been about, you know, kind of backcountry or off-piste powder conditions, that type of terrain, and bringing a freestyle mindset into those snow conditions and that terrain.

 So big, wide tips and tails in this ski. The Sir Francis Bacon doesn't lack any float whatsoever, and kind of to enhance that, it's got these convex tips and tails.

 Really, really cool tip and tail shape. You know, it's similar to what we see from some other companies, but it's actually, it's almost more pronounced. It's more of like a real spoon shape instead of just kind of picking up some, you know, having a little bit of side rocker on the edges, so to speak.

 This is really a big curved convex shape, which is really cool. Flex pattern of these skis is pretty darn soft. So, you know, especially in the tips and tails, when you flex it, you can really get the tips and tails to bend.

 Aspen and Polonia Woodcore in here, actually, excuse me, Maple and Polonia Woodcore in here. So it's not, you know, it's not drastically stiff by any means. It's pretty darn soft, in fact, and that's by design.

 This thing's designed to butter, smear, you know, basically all of the kind of new school free ride maneuvers in soft snow conditions is what this thing, that's what this ski is all about.

 Super easy to release the tail edge, no matter how deep the snow is. So you can, you know, you can work in a little nose butter 360 basically like anywhere. You don't have to have a perfect mound of snow. You can do it really quick in the middle of like a technical terrain or technical line if you want to.

 You know, really good ski if you want to take your terrain park tricks into the backcountry. You know, we got multiple mount points on this ski and they're both pretty darn centered. So if you want to hit a jump switch in the backcountry or land switch in the backcountry, the Sir Francis Bacon is a really, really good ski for that.

 And it's, you know, it's made a name for itself. It's not the type of ski that you'll charge on, but definitely the type of ski that you'll play on, which it's just, you know, I can't emphasize it enough just how playful and fun this thing is.

 But yeah, again, like if you're looking for a powder ski that you can charge on, and this is a powder ski at 107 underfoot. I put it pretty squarely in that powder ski realm. If you're looking for a powder ski you can charge on, there are better options.

 But yeah, for playful skiers looking to do or take kind of freestyle mentality or a free ride mentality, a playful mentality into ungroomed, snuff snow conditions, Sir Francis Bacon is like a weapon for that kind of application.

 Just a really cool ski and it's nice that it keeps coming back and filling that niche of the ski world. So yeah, that's the Sir Francis Bacon.

All new from Nordica is the Wild Bell 84 DC. Nordica took quite an innovative approach to this ski’s construction and the result is a more playful and fun-loving ski that doesn’t come at the cost of a high speed limit. The approach they took involves a dual wood core that sandwiches a layer of rubber which runs through the length of the ski. The benefits of this construction are a smoother flex, more liveliness, and more stability and vibration damping. The ski’s design accounts for the added ride height of bindings. A Natural Stance design lowers the height of the binding by about 2 millimeters and sets the heel lower than the toe creating a very centered, natural and balanced stance over the ski. Think about wearing flats versus wearing heels. Which one feels better? I think we can all agree on the same answer here. Aside from construction the Wild Belle remains fairly simple in shape. An 84 –millimeter waist width lends itself well to exploring all sorts of frontside terrain and provides some versatility and float when things get a bit softer. Comprised of mostly camber, the Wild belle does feature a slight early rise profile in the tip for a bit of forgiveness and easier turn initiation. Overall, A very smooth, stable and fun new ski from Nordica that is designed around ladies who like dynamic turns at fast speeds.

Winter Insight

 It's going to have camber underfoot so that you can flex it in and has a little bit of tip rocker and really not much tail rocker on there. It's definitely more of a stiff tail and that means it's more geared towards carving on on the trails. Who I would put on this ski again it's a price point ski so you can put that intermediate to maybe even a advanced skier who likes to carve a lot. It's definitely a little bit more fatiguing uh but forgiving not fatiguing forgiving than um some of their all-mountain skis but it is definitely again going to be a little bit more demanding in its carving shape uh you know with that stiffer tail it's not going to pop in and out of the trees as easier as say their Santa Ana lineup

 Who I would put on this ski again it's a price point ski so you can put that intermediate to maybe even a advanced skier who likes to carve a lot. It's definitely a little bit more fatiguing uh but forgiving not fatiguing forgiving than um some of their all-mountain skis but it is definitely again going to be a little bit more demanding in its carving shape uh you know with that stiffer tail it's not going to pop in and out of the trees as easier as say their Santa Ana lineup. Uh who again I put my mom I would put uh someone who's just learning to link their turns they could really have some fun out there and learn how to ski better with this ski.  Nordica's brand new Wild Bell 84. They used to have a Wild Bell but they brought it back

 and with a new traditional shape, 84 waist width, so it's a great price-brand resort ski.

 They use their natural stance which basically they've moved the binding plate a little bit

 up putting their ladies a little bit forward on the ski and they've made that plate smaller

 in order to allow the ski to flex and for you to maneuver your tips and tails a little bit easier.

 They also use their double core technology basically what they call pulse core. They put

 a sheet of wood, the rubber, and then another sheet of wood and that dampens the ski and makes

 it a smooth and stable ride when you're out there on on the trails. Shape of the ski again it's that

 traditional front side ski. It's going to have camber underfoot so that you can flex it in and

 has a little bit of tip rocker and really not much tail rocker on there. It's definitely more

 of a stiff tail and that means it's more geared towards carving on on the trails.
