should be plenty for coding and general web browsing and the battery life of these laptops has been getting better and better each generation. If I can give you a recommendation even though I live in the states and the market may be completely different, the Lenovo Yoga 6 has the specs  I mentioned and a massive 60Wh battery for 10hr of battery life, something I can attest to as I have this laptop. It should be around 750 USD max, if it's more than that I wouldn't buy. Good Luck!

I am trying to get a laptop
Primary usage is browsing, some programming C/C++, python, javascript basics of photo editing.

I already have a decent dekstop, which I use for programming(Ubuntu) and gaming(Windows).

The laptop will be used during power cuts, travel and when I just feel like lying on the bed etc...

I previously had a HP pavilion, but the amount of flex of the body/chasis really disappointed me, battery life was not the best and the fan frequently ramped up I was satisfied with the display, backlit keyboard but over all was a bit disappointed with the performance of the device..

When I picked up the laptop from 1 side I would get BSOD cause the flex would cause some issues.

The laptop was a lntel Core i5 8th gen quad core
8GB Ram, 256GB nvme SSD 14inch

after paying close to INR 54k ~ USD 700  I was disappointed with the way it performed.

Is getting a Macbook Air M1 a good choice?

So far the lack of a fan no gcc, docker support are red flags for me. I am not sure if in a year or so gcc support will be coming to the Mac.
The lack of fan also scares about the life of the device. If I get a Mac and play close to USD 900 I plan to keep it for minimum 5-6 years.

I had Windows laptops that I had for around 4 years so the expectation with the Mac is more is atleast 5 years

I know it depends on a lot of factors but is it too much to expect from a fanless device?

I dont plan to compile huge programs just follow tutorials create my own tutorials(basic stuff), play with a Raspberry Pi and so on
nothing to heavy as of now no pans to edit videos etc...

So is the Macbook Air worth the investment, for very heavy tasks I can always fall back to my PC

The management above me decided to add another team under me and I will be commuting 2x - 3x a week between different offices by train (with no salary increase).   I run or participate in about 15 meetings a week (seriously..I am getting sick of all the meetings).  My work load is not being reduced, so I will need to also work while commuting and also work from home.  I would use this to work mostly on excel with very large and complex spreadsheets.  I will also use the laptop to run meetings hence the need for pen support as well as the convertible form factor.


I've been looking at 2 in 1 laptops.  I would like something with a lot of processing power (perhaps a Ryzen 7), however the only one I can find is an HP Probook 435 G8 (Ryzen Pro 5850U, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, Windows Pro, 3yr Warranty), which would not ship until September...  

I can find i7 laptops, but it seems like performance is roughly 20% lower than the AMD and they are either similarly priced (HP Spectre) or have too many different sub-brands (Lenovo Yoga, Thinkpad Yoga, Carbon, Titanium, Flex, etc...) or from a company that I've never had a system from (Asus).  Also, it appears that lower spec laptops cannot be upgraded, so I cannot buy something with less than 16GB of RAM.  All of this coupled with a lack of inventory minimizing options is making it frustrating.
