Lenovo Legion 5 pro RTX 3070: $1959, Needs new RAM for best performance. With a 32GB RAM it costs ~$2130.

My personal list of best gaming laptops in various categories. Hopefully it’s helpful for those looking for a new laptop this year.

The L5P has already reduced in price in less than a week imagine where it will be after a month or two. Also availability will definitely improve as lenovo hopes to sell as much units as possible especially in the us & other american/european countries to equal the hype that has surrounded their gaming laptop line for 2021.

WHY YOU SHOULDN'T PURCHASE THE LEGION 5 PRO (L5P) NOW

 Its not functional. There are tons of dead spots on it plus it ghost registers 1 sometimes 2 finger inputs. I love this laptop but theres no permanent fix for the trackpad which makes the laptop underperform. Sadly im returning it this week

Run all games nicely on ultra settings. Fans keep relatively quiet to other gaming laptops. Decent thermals comparatively to other laptops.

 Sure the computer comes with the correct GPU and CPU. The description says it is at 3200mhz which it is actually at 2667mhz see screenshots. Not only that but I only got 32gbs of ram compared to the 64gbs I paid for. On top of that you remember the laptop saying 165hz refresh rate? That's actually an April Fools joke as well because both the windows setting and nvidia control panel both have it locked at 60hz and CANNOT be changed

I also ran the gaming benchmarks (without Turbo) at the ROG Strix Scar 17&rsquo;s QHD screen resolution, which you&rsquo;d want to do for the sharpest picture. It was smooth sailing, averaging 183fps in Rainbow Six: Siege (Ultra), 62fps in Assassin&rsquo;s Creed (Ultra), and 88fps in F1 2021 (Ultra).

The keyboard includes a numeric keypad and even with these added keys, it still doesn&rsquo;t span the entire width of the chassis. Key presses have a light, linear feel and ample travel.

Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 (G733) Review

 I am not a regular gamer and only play Dota 2 occasionally and damn, I was able to play it at the highest settings possible for the first time in my life (coming from intel 4720hq + 960m). I will be using this machine for programming/productivity tasks mostly and I hope this will serve me for years to come.

I had a throttling set up cooling etc like most gamers do but this never happened before now my laptop has no power signal when plug it won't turn on anymore. Asus should fix their expensive unreliable products.

Please help I’m going insane (not really explenation in comments).

Lastly, the new mechanical keys are so loud that there is real potential for them to annoy any nearby classmates or roommates. If you were thinking about using this laptop for everything from lecture notes to dorm room gaming, then a ZenBook Pro might be the better fit which is a shame because the larger numpad and arrow keys of the G733 are otherwise more comfortable to use. A standard non-mechanical keyboard option, much like what Dell is doing with its latest Alienware models, would have been great to see here.

 Perhaps a different deck material or texture on future models would help mitigate the fingerprint buildup.A colorful high-end gaming laptop that's all about processor performance and gaming. Verdict

Asus’ laptop also put up a respectable performance in Red Dead Redemption 2. At ultra settings (no DLSS) in QHD resolution, it achieved a smooth 65fps, while turning DLSS on yielded a 7fps boost. With every game that I tried to run, the Strix Scar 17 didn’t face many obstacles running them at their best settings. Its specs can handle most games without needing to be amped up to the laptop’s “performance” or “turbo” modes (the keyboard has dedicated buttons to do this), which boost the clock speeds of the CPU and graphics card, and then amps up the fan speed accordingly

 It’s a speed machine, with 32GB of fast DDR5 RAM, a powerful Nvidia RTX 3070 Ti graphics card, and Intel’s Core i9 12900H processor built-in. And to see all of that power on display (well, depending on the games you play), its 17.3-inch QHD panel has a fast 240Hz refresh rate. 

The 2022 model of the Strix Scar 17 is merely a refresh, with very little of its exterior changed from its predecessors (it still doesn’t have a webcam, for example). Most of the focus was on making significant upgrades to its internals. It’s a speed machine, with 32GB of fast DDR5 RAM, a powerful Nvidia RTX 3070 Ti graphics card, and Intel’s Core i9 12900H processor built-in.
