They are definitely sturdy!  I'm a race coach at Crystal and these poles put up with a lot of abuse.  It is midway through the season and there is not a scratch on them, and they are still straight as an arrow.  I wasn't a big believer in the Leki latch system, but now I love it.  These are the best poles I've ever had and I regularly get comments about them

I have these in aluminum, but wanted lighter weight and honestly, I like that carbon doesn't get as cold for carrying. I love the Leki no strap system. These are by no means a necessity, but if you appreciate really good gear, and you want to try the best pole retention system available, get these.
