Leatherman Signal. Quick dry towels. Puffy chair (club chair?). We had some major heat waves this year and a rechargeable fan was great

With Christmas in mind, what is your favorite camping item?

After using this tool for three weeks I have to say it has some issues. Although the fit and finish on my tool was very good the design has problems.  The carabiner pinches my hand when I use the knife for more than a few seconds of light cutting. The design of the tool requires you to use the awl, bit driver and can opener with the handle in an extended position

 I've been using it as an EDC and it works well in that role. The knife is still an issue. Leatherman needs to lose the serrations and upgrade the steel. The Signal has grown on me but still needs improvement - especially the ability to carry more bits

 All in all very high quality build and feels sturdy. Love the blade shape and it is pretty sharp right out of the box. It's a little greasy out of the box too so don't touch your clothes after handling it. Clean it up first

 Don't be worried if it's a little clunky opening and closing at first, gotta wear it in like a new pair of boots. I definitely feel like I purchased something worth the cost of this tool. Highly recommend!!! The seller shipped in a timely fashion too! I am very satisfied.

 Same with the sharpener. The way it's designed ensures these things stay in place but you can lose them if you're not careful.  The Signal is a little loose on the opening. Maybe it's supposed to be that way but I'd prefer a tighter fit

 - It has a serrated blade where the Swisstool has a plain blade; both are important. - It has needlenose pliers where the Swisstool has regular pliers; both are important. - The Signal clips to your pocket where the Swisstool just goes into a pocket, making the Signal more of a quick draw. - Also the knife is a one-handed open, which adds to the knife-draw speed, making the Signal a good front-man for the duo

  The Signal is a little loose on the opening. Maybe it's supposed to be that way but I'd prefer a tighter fit. Maybe I can tighten it myself if I have the precision bit? It's tighter once you clamp it into Plier-mode, but you can open it with one hand like a butterfly-knife. Actually now that I just said that I think it is supposed to be loose

So far I like this multitool! Definitely optimized for camping though.

  Bottom Line: Now I'll throw a few bones to the Signal on certain things.Yes the pocket clip..

But I knew the Signal had a 420HC blade and wanted it over some high-end steel.  *A good suggestion to Leatherman is to satin-finish the internal tools full-time (liked they used to) versus a part-time trait (on select models).This stainless steel in a bead blast finish just doesn't resist the elements very well.If these were made from carbon steel I'd say make a note to oil it

Just finished the Signals for my collection.

 But something you need to know that this was made for SURVIVAL situations. That’s why you got the straight and seraded edge blade, flint/whistle, saw, etc. If you’re a camper/hiker, this is great! If you’re just an average joe in an urban environment, you may not use the features as often as those who spend there days outdoors.

 I have a couple Moras as large fixed blades which are excellent but then I need to also carry a folding saw and scissors and it gets bulky. I have a Surge too but same story with needing gloves for comfortable use and it has a lot of tools I don’t need which are very heavy. I also have a P4 but that one also needs gloves for comfortable sawing for more than a couple minutes — this one works in a pinch better than the Signal though.

This is the second Leatherman Signal I bought from Amazon, the first one was probably a counterfeit. Please note, these should come in a Leatherman branded box with a Leatherman branded quick reference card and a 25 year warranty card. The ones sold by Amazon directly are the legit ones.  This particular multi-took with the light blue casing is really attractive and fun without sacrificing quality

I'm a tactile guy. Love the feeling of tools, as I think that's a part of the product experience. This one feels great. The tools are awesome, although there are some improvements that could be made that almost made this a 4* rating

 Okay. Now we have to go over a couple cons, because every honest review has to talk about the cons of every multi-tool. So first up is because this tool uses a high chromium content, stainless steel. The knife blade isn't going to have quite as good of edge retention as other multi-tools using 420 hc steel

 One of my biggest pet peeves of this particular multi-tool were the scissors, while the scissor design is overall, pretty good, they actuate well and they're very sturdy. The fact that they don't open up very far just limits the usefulness of them now this next con might actually be a pro for some people. The screwdrivers do not have bit interchangeability like the leatherman waves. Do the downside for this is, if you need things like a torx bit or a hex drive anything like that, you do not have the ability to add it to this multi-tool where, on, like the waiver surge you do, the pro of that feature is you'll, never Lose the screwdriver so long

 It'S the chisel, slash wire strippers and box cutter. I think this edge is technically classified as a wire case cutter by victorinox, but i personally think it's a great box cutter or doing things like cutting open, concrete bags bags of sand. Things like that that you would not ever want to use a regular knife blade for and since this multi-tool does not have a serrated edge blade. This little box cutter is going to come in really handy for you, so good job on the wire strippers, chisel and box cutter

 However, the regular wire cutters - they kind of have this second notch in there, and i would have preferred a just plain edge there kind of like the leatherman wave, for example. I just don't think the second notch really helps it if anything, it's a hindrance, especially when you're trying to cut larger diameter wire where it might not fit neatly into that notch. So that's a little bit of a knock. I have on it

 Velcro works best here since you can hear the thing "tear" open in almost any environment and avoid losing your tool.  This is my second Victorinox product and I can say that I'm happy with both. The Cybertool almost met my needs but the pliers simply didn't cut it in the workplace (light industrial technician). Carrying both would be ideal (I do) but the average person could quite easily go with the Swisstool Spirit X

Like my Cybertool 41, this item seems to be the same exact quality I'm beginning to expect from Victorinox. That is to say, very nice as far as I can tell. The tools have not been used or abused just yet but that is coming very soon now because I use this tool at work.  The tools themselves are the precise assortment that I would choose to have on a plier based multi-tool, hence my purchase

The Philips driver in particular appears well designed after a few uses, you have to use it on different size bolts to get what I mean. I actually like the design of all of the tools myself
