KEF Q150 vs Audioengine A2+

This are very smooth sounding speakers - they will never sound shrill or fatiguing. The flip side of this is the treble is not as detailed and exciting as other speakers. I own the Klipsch RP-500M and I prefer those speakers overall, and I think a lot of people would. If you can find the Klipsch for a similar price, they sound more clear, exciting, and dynamic

Bought these and the Elac Uni-Fi UB5 to compare them. Bought them both at discounts. Paid $300 during a sale for these. I think the overall the Elac sounds better but these aren't bad

These speakers still look phenomenal though, and packaging is premium enough to justify a higher price tag, but not $260. For reference, as soon as I refunded my A2+, I went ahead and purchased a pair of KRK RP5 G4 Studio Monitors for the exact same price (These monitors are also fairly controversial, but I personally really enjoy their soundstage and less colored sound). WRAPPING THINGS UP (Pros and Cons): Pros: - Spectacular packaging - Additional cables that allow for multiple ways to connect to a source - Rich mid-range for small profile - Premium build quality (hefty with a clean finish) - Smaller setups will benefit from the size - Volume does get relatively loud Cons: - Highs are lacking clarity - Bass is quite average from 90hz to 200hz, anything below that is quite awful without a subwoofer - The speakers do not do a great job at stereo imaging - Speakers are impossible to EQ without a 3rd party software - The price is absurd for over glorified desktop speakers - Subtle details in music get lost, making these speakers terrible for mixing/mastering (This is not what these speakers are intended for, but it is something to keep in mind) - Personally, these blew out on me twice at pretty normal listening volumes. A few notes: - I do not believe these speakers are horrible, I just think the price you pay for them is not justified

My previous reference point is a set of Fluance AI40, and a set of Audioengine A2 on a nuforce udaq. The B&W, despite being 24 years old, clean the floor with both of them. Crystal clear highs, smooth and punchy bass that I never found the bottom of. Mids were lacking a little, but a slight tweak on the EQ and they’re as perfect as my ear can hear

Would I recommend them? Yes, BUT - small room and with something to cover the bottom two octaves (subwoofer). My priorities for good sound, a decent soundstage, stable imaging, dynamic range, and lack of coloration were satisfied. And I would buy them again, or possibly - if She Who Must Be Obeyed (aka "the Finance Committee") was willing - the KEF LS50s.

WHAT's SO-SO: The bass is limited, as these are small speakers. Their marketing says "To say the bass on the A2+ is substantial for their size may be an understatement, but you be the judge." Well, my judgement is they are only typical for a speaker this size. I was hoping for more as they are pretty expensive

I'm running these off an smsl ao200 amp via a Schitt Modi 3+ dac and an ifi zen blue bluetooth receiver. I am pleased as can be. Some have said these start to chuff at high volume but I've taken them to the height of comfortable listening levels where I can clearly see the woofers moving and all I can hear is clean and clear music full of clarity, power and refinement. They'd pair best with a revealing amp for sure

My onboard iMac speakers sounded better. To put the icing on the cake, the Bluetooth had such a lag that I couldn’t even watch a movie as the sound was so out of sync. So.

I have a small living room, it's about 20 L x 13 ft W and these fill the entire area plus the kitchen with amazing sound at normal listening levels. You really have to run these about 50 hours or more to open them up and give some space from the wall as advised by Kef. I won't mention brands but I did return two sets of speakers before deciding to keep these, the uni-q driver works it's special magic to broaden the soundstage and imaging. With the Powernode the mids are so clear and the highs are smooth never shrill or annoying

Hooked them up, and my first impression was that they sounded good, but empty in the middle. Sure enough, when I A/B'd them against the ProMedia 2.1's, it was no contest.
