 I was able to slice fresh from the oven crusty French bread without the unappetizing “squish”. The plastic sheath takes some getting used to, but it does it’s job as designed. I’m hopeful this knife will maintain its durability over time.

 Instead of worrying about sharpening an expensive serrated knife, I prefer to just buy an inexpensive one, use it until it's toast, then throw it away. -Relatively well-made: Pure Komachi's are much nicer and build and material quality than other cheap knives I've used (Dexter, Mundial, etc). The handle is plastic, it's partial tang, all of which would probably be knocks against it in the professional cook world, but the overall quality exceeds what I would expect from this price point. The plastic doesn't feel overly cheap, and the included sheath has never given me any problems

I've been a cook for 10+ years, and I've worked in a wide variety of kitchens serving an equally wide variety of foods. Pros: -Relatively inexpensive: Serrated knives are great for a wide variety of jobs, but difficult to sharpen. Instead of worrying about sharpening an expensive serrated knife, I prefer to just buy an inexpensive one, use it until it's toast, then throw it away. -Relatively well-made: Pure Komachi's are much nicer and build and material quality than other cheap knives I've used (Dexter, Mundial, etc)

Great bread knife for professional kitchen work

 I hope they never stop making these knives in the quality they currently have, because they have something right with this series.

Pure Komachi 2 Series are great, and their Bread Knife one of my favorite so far.

 And considering, you know, what these knives cost, it's a nice little extra to be able to do that. You've got, this was the first one, the first compression lock knife that I purchased, the Para 3. It's got the FRN handle and the CTS BD1 steel with an acid wash on it. And I took that sucker apart and cleaned it up, and it's just a great little knife, great snap to it, and it closes just beautifully

 Get open there, baby. My Spydercold Polestar. And I tried to disassemble this to maintain it, and they've used some red thread locker here and on these screws here. And so I wasn't able to get them all out

 And I just said, well, the heck with it. You know, there's nothing wrong with it. I mean, the action on it's great. But you know, you want to be able to maintain your own knives

On The Cutting Edge-Spyderco Kapara review

 Hey, good evening, everybody. You are on The Cutting Edge and I'm Buck Wilde. It's been

 a while since I've done a knife review, so let's get to it. What you see here in front

 of you is the Spyderco Capara, designed by Alistair Phillips. The knife is about 8 1⁄4

 inches in overall length. You've got this beautiful satin finish S30V steel blade, these

 gorgeous carbon fiber handle scales, a nice compression lock, the wire clip, which is

 one of the best things that Spyderco has ever done, this dark red back spacer, it's been

 milled out a little bit to save some weight, and it's made in their Taichung facility.

 You can see the maker's signature there. Just beautiful. And this is the CQI edition, so

 there is a bushing around the pivot here, which allows you to get that nice drop-shot

 action that you see there. And I picked this up secondhand, you know I don't like to pay

 full price. I got a great deal on it, especially when you consider the price of something like

 the PM2, which is made here in the States, and also has the compression lock in the S30V

 steel, and just the G10 handles here, as opposed to this really, really nice looking carbon

 fiber. One of the other things that I really like about this knife, and the compression

 lock design in particular, is it's really easy to take these apart and maintain them

 yourself. And considering, you know, what these knives cost, it's a nice little extra

 to be able to do that. You've got, this was the first one, the first compression lock

 knife that I purchased, the Para 3. It's got the FRN handle and the CTS BD1 steel with

 an acid wash on it. And I took that sucker apart and cleaned it up, and it's just a great

 little knife, great snap to it, and it closes just beautifully. And then of course, as previously

 mentioned, you've got the PM2 here. So in addition to the carbon fiber scales, you've

 also got this generous lanyard hole, if that's something that you like to do. What else can

 we say about it? Well, in regards to being able to take it apart and maintain it, you've

 got other knives like this one here. There we go. Get open there, baby. My Spydercold

 thread locker here and on these screws here. And so I wasn't able to get them all out.

 And I just said, well, the heck with it. You know, there's nothing wrong with it. I mean,

 And unfortunately, it's just not as easy on this one as it is with the Capara. I don't

 know if I mentioned it. The Capara is the Australian version of the American Black Widow,

 hence the red backspacer here. Very interesting. Do a little bit of research. Beautiful knife.

 I got a great deal on it. And if you're looking for just, you know, a really nice gentleman's

 knife that you will enjoy using thoroughly, this is it. So highly recommended. Hope you

 All right, guys, that's my review of the Capara. Well done, Alastair. You've done awesome, dude. I think Australian knife dudes are super proud of you, and overall, I think it's a very well-executed piece

 The materials you're getting are S30V on the blade, ground to three millimeters thick, And then you're getting carbon fiber on the handles with stainless steel liners, which is somewhat skeletonized, bronze-phosphor washers on a compression lock system. The compression lock being Spydercos kind of three-piece lock, the leaf spring, that pillar in the middle, and the blade tang Are wedged together by the spring tension of this surface here, making the blade lock in a very authoritative way and also making it So you don't have to use You put your fingers in the blade path when you lock the knife or close the knife back up. So yeah, very, very, you know, pretty popular lock, really. The wire clip is the Spyderco standard wire clip
