You might not even fully realize just how much you want a ski like this. For high-volume ski touring, steep-and-rowdy firm-snow ski mountaineering, and work-week, headlamp exercise skinning, a lightweight set-up based on the K2 WayBack 80 is just the ticket. The featherweight construction flies uphill. The narrow and stiff construction grabs on the steeps but gets bucked around in tougher snow. 
This is a specialized tool. You won't pick these for day-to-day backcountry skiing. Deep, perfect powder snow is enjoyable, but bigger guns will be even more fun. Any sort of poor snow &#40;breakable crust? Slop?&#41; is better handled by a bigger and heavier option. All small skis are under-equipped for tough snow, but the K2 does better than most. It is this ski's more forgiving tough-snow performance that edges it ahead of other close competitors.

Obviously I won't be taking these out for powder laps but for long/fast and/or late season missions this is a great choice at a great price. Match them with a race binding (I mounted a Plum 150), light boots and race skins and you'll have a setup you won&#39;t mind hiking with to find snow in mid summer.

I got these for late spring/summer use and couldn't be happier. They are very light but can still be skied hard. I have found they shine on steep icy slopes (skied bulletproof on Temple SW) and they handle those horrible summer sun cups just fine. Compared to the Waybacks 88s I find they are a bit less grabby in breakable crusts and easier to control on steep ice

 This ski is playful. It allows you to sit in the back seat a little bit it allows you to sit in the front seat a little bit you can vary your turn radius. Playful is a really good word. Gareth said that earlier playful is the perfect word for this however it is absolutely still true to its nature it's a Volkl and it's still hard charging it's definitely although you can sit back it still is going to charge you forward there's no chatter it's super stable still a powerful ski

 I've never been on a ski that is so lively quick to turn get on your edge cuts through the snow handle speed beautiful great swing weight on it I would recommend this to anybody. The Volkl 94 super playful lots of fun a lot more forgiving than a typical Volkl. Every time I get on a Blaze 94 I think one thing is how easy and effortless it is how how smooth quick edge to edge it's using the 3d radius which means long radius short radius long radius and that makes a big difference in the fact that the ski engages easily and then when you put it on edge a little bit underfoot it come it grips and then it allows some forgiveness at the tail. So early season skiing hangover skiing anytime you're not your best that 3d radius at Volkl makes a big big difference I feel it makes the ski so so easy to ski on and then when you add to that the light new construction that the Blaze has which is thin at the tip and tail torsionally rigid it skis like a Volkl absolutely skis like a Volkl but it has a little bit of something else in it that makes the ski ski a little easier and a little less what's the word it's not demanding a little bit quicker a little bit more fun you don't have to be quite on your a-game quite as much with this ski you can you know slack off a little bit but yeah I can't say enough about this ski it's surprisingly for a lightweight ski stable Volkl needed this ski it's a winner

 This is one of the most surprising skis I've tested today. This ski has so much life in it you load this ski up it springs you out of the turn it feels like it's one of the liveliest skis I've ever skied. This ski is playful. It allows you to sit in the back seat a little bit it allows you to sit in the front seat a little bit you can vary your turn radius
