You might not even fully realize just how much you want a ski like this. For high-volume ski touring, steep-and-rowdy firm-snow ski mountaineering, and work-week, headlamp exercise skinning, a lightweight set-up based on the K2 WayBack 80 is just the ticket. The featherweight construction flies uphill. The narrow and stiff construction grabs on the steeps but gets bucked around in tougher snow. 
This is a specialized tool. You won't pick these for day-to-day backcountry skiing. Deep, perfect powder snow is enjoyable, but bigger guns will be even more fun. Any sort of poor snow &#40;breakable crust? Slop?&#41; is better handled by a bigger and heavier option. All small skis are under-equipped for tough snow, but the K2 does better than most. It is this ski's more forgiving tough-snow performance that edges it ahead of other close competitors.

Obviously I won't be taking these out for powder laps but for long/fast and/or late season missions this is a great choice at a great price. Match them with a race binding (I mounted a Plum 150), light boots and race skins and you'll have a setup you won&#39;t mind hiking with to find snow in mid summer.

I got these for late spring/summer use and couldn't be happier. They are very light but can still be skied hard. I have found they shine on steep icy slopes (skied bulletproof on Temple SW) and they handle those horrible summer sun cups just fine. Compared to the Waybacks 88s I find they are a bit less grabby in breakable crusts and easier to control on steep ice

 In front of me I have Volkl's Blaze 86 women's version. It's new this year with their narrowest version in the Blaze lineup. They also have a 90 and a 106 version. They use their hybrid wood core in there which basically is a multi-layered wood core with a synthetic strip on it which basically makes it a super light wood core

 So basically if you're flexing the ski right under the foot you're going to be able to make shorter turns, more like slalom turns, or if you're really flexing onto the ski and getting to the tips and the tails using that rocker you're going to be able to have a much longer radius up to 25 meters. This ski is geared to a nice range of ladies. It's someone that's looking for a lightweight tour ski to go uphill, someone who really doesn't want a lot of weight, maybe they're just touring in the resorts and they're not worried about flotation with a wider ski and they really just want to reduce that weight as they're going uphill, or maybe someone that's in the resort who really likes moguls and bumps but doesn't want to have something that's too heavy and fatiguing. This is a great ski for you
