Jones Aviator 2.0 2022 Snowboard Review

 Every so often a snowboard comes along that blows most of the competition right out of the water

 and I have one example right here in front of me. The Aviator 2.0 is the new all-mountain

 machine from Jones Snowboards. If you're a confident rider looking for that one stick

 solution to ride every inch of the mountain take a look at this thing.

 Victor Delarue was heavily involved in the design process of the new Aviator and whether you've seen

 him ride in the Freeride World Tour, far out in the Chamonix backcountry or even through the park

 you'll soon have some idea of what this board is capable of. It's built around this new blunt

 directional twin shape with a full tip-to-tail camber. This makes the snowboard super responsive

 with loads of grip, pop and power underfoot as well as being a pretty reliable option if you're

 spending a bit of time riding in switch. And adding to this, the new Aviator features Traction Tech

 3.0 edges. There are three subtle bumps running along the side cut and these give you additional

 contact points in the snow which increase grip on the edge especially in hard pack or icy conditions.

 Given that the Aviator 2.0 is the only board in the Jones line with a full positive camber along

 with the Traction Tech, I'd say it's got to be one of the most stable and confident inspiring

 boards to ride on the edge. Experienced riders will really be able to push this board in challenging

 terrain and trust that it will hold up under the pressure. Perhaps the only drawback of a full

 camber profile is its effectiveness to float in powder as well as say boards with a directional

 outline or long rocker nose sections. Jones have worked around this though with their 3D base

 contouring in the nose and in the tail. Starting from just outside the contact area, the Aviator

 2.0 features a mellow spoon-like bevel of around four millimeters. 3D bases are becoming increasingly

 popular and in this instance it allows you to still take full advantage of that powerful camber

 while increasing glide flow and float at the ends of the board. Rather than simply tipping the

 snowboard onto its edge, the Aviator rolls in between turns eliminating that twitchy feeling

 you often find on rougher choppy terrain. And by beveling the base in these areas of the board it

 also reduces the friction up at the front end allowing you to glide faster but more importantly

 to deflect snow out to the sides of the board rather than ploughing through it which gives

 you some additional float in the deep stuff. Now it's already starting to sound like a pretty

 impressive snowboard and that's before we come on to the materials and the construction.

 So the flex pattern on the Aviator 2.0 is slightly directional making it a little bit stiffer in the

 tail for some added drive out of your turns but the overall rating sits at a pretty snappy eight

 out of ten. The power core is made up of poplar, polonia and bamboo wood stringers which creates

 a really effective blend of lightweight response with power and durability. That's then sandwiched

 between carbon reinforced triax fiberglass layers as well as some flax and basalt stringers in both

 the nose and in the tail. This is what gives the Aviator 2.0 it's altogether more powerful

 and reactive flex but if you're properly driving the board it's going to reward you with loads of

 stability and a really dynamic flex pattern that just gets better the more you push it.

 up all of that high speed chatter you often get at the front end. Secondly it increases the response

 in the nose by making it more maneuverable and reactive at the start of a turn and finally it

 weighs next to nothing so it drastically reduces the swing weight of the board. As with all Jones

 snowboards the Aviator 2.0 is built with some of the most sustainable and eco-friendly materials

 and practices in the industry limiting its impact on the planet but in every other sense this thing
