Uh hmmm, if one is going to spend this much $800 US for unpowered speakers that Will be influenced by power input, consider powered professional quality studio monitors.  I’ve owned discreet components and monitors from JBL (now Samsung), Magneplanar and heralded Unity Audio. I love my Sony speakers, the same ones you have here, plus the matching Sony Centre channel. Personally I'm happy. Considering I'm broke, I don't know how much better the more expensive ones would have been for me at the end of the day really.

Just out if curiosity, have you tested any oh the HSU research speakers? I've only ever seen standalone reviews of them, not side by side.

Budget 5.25” speaker battle revisited! After spending some more time with all of these, my perspective has changed a little. Any thoughts on which ones you think would be your favorites? I’ll give my opinion after I get some of you to chime in.

  Also, I was upset that Amazon did not double box these speakers. They shipped in the JBL product box only, and the box arrived moderately damaged by UPS, with a gaping large hole in the corner, and one speaker corner exposed! Luckily, the speakers themselves were not (apparently) damaged. SHAME on Amazon for not double-boxing these speakers!  Lastly, I listen with the grilles off, and with the included contoured horn fittings in place. To me, these speakers look like a work of art! Unique and gorgeous, to say the least

The media could not be loaded. I recently read all the positive online reviews of the JBL Studio 530, and couldn't wait for the price to come down more. I just HAD to have a pair of true horn-loaded speakers in my stable, having lusted over these for weeks! I could tell there was something special about these speakers, just by some of the passionate reviews, as well as the British 'WhatHiFi' magazine 5 star review (I also considered the DALI Zensor 1 or Zensor 3). I am a stereo equipment and music junkie/audiophile, with 7 stereo systems currently hooked up throughout my modest home (I know, i'm nuts!), often interchanging equipment and speakers amassed over the years to experiment with sound

 This was about a year ago. I'm only up to the E's so far, but oh what a pleasure to be immersed in the glorious sound emanating forth from these wondrous horn-loaded speakers! I've been driving them with both solid state as well as tubed amplification (I change back and forth from time to time as an obsessed audiophile), and the sound is truly high-end. Timbral accuracy, detail, sound attack and decay, well balanced, tight bass, air.

 SHAME on Amazon for not double-boxing these speakers!  Lastly, I listen with the grilles off, and with the included contoured horn fittings in place. To me, these speakers look like a work of art! Unique and gorgeous, to say the least. I noticed that the grilles have the JBL logo, but when they're off, there is no way to tell the brand. I wish JBL would have provided a nice quality (perhaps thin metal) stick-on of their JBL logo to put in that small recessed area on the bottom of the 530's

These are fine instruments, not speakers!  Very lively, detailed, paced, and timbrally accurate sound.  Gorgeous to behold too!

  These are exciting speakers to play and they really suck you in. I have Usher, PSB and NHT here and I like these a lot. Sound quality compares well with the NHT Classic 3 overall which were once called the best speakers under a thousand dollars. At the price difference I strongly favor the JBLs and the very tight bass helps make these speakers way more exciting and fun than the NHT

 Then British site WhatHiFi gave it 5 stars and described the speaker as great fun. I have to agree.  Horn loaded speaker such as inexpensive Klipsch speakers are often harsh and fatiguing. These speakers are very smooth with great detail, superbly tight bass and present very balanced overall

 The horn tweeters on the Studio 5 series are marvels. Although there is a rising high frequency with these speakers it is very well managed with slight toe-in.  These are exciting speakers to play and they really suck you in. I have Usher, PSB and NHT here and I like these a lot

No audition needed. JBL take a bow!

 Powering these with a Pioneer Elite SC-65, in pure direct mode they sound amazingly good. Haven't done any room correction yet with the receiver, as I am waiting for my new subwoofer and to bi-amp (controversial I know) them.  They look far nicer in person than pictures show. I have them sitting atop a set of Sanus 24" speakers stands

 The height is perfect and my wife likes the look of these far better than the old Yahama towers these replaced.

Did a lot of research on these on a major audio/video forums, and read the reviews here on Amazon. These truly do sound better than their price bracket would indicate.   This are very smooth sounding speakers - they will never sound shrill or fatiguing. The flip side of this is the treble is not as detailed and exciting as other speakers. I own the Klipsch RP-500M and I prefer those speakers overall, and I think a lot of people would. If you can find the Klipsch for a similar price, they sound more clear, exciting, and dynamic

 I was happy to play them loud because they sounded great loud. They really rewarded me the more. I turned up that volume knob. Additionally, i will say: um there's going to be two scenarios where people are going to use these right in a listening room like i did a smaller listing room, i would recommend, because these are small if you've got a bigger listening room, they have the 350 as Well as the floor standards, you may want to consider those instead, but in a small listening room more than four feet away, as you would normally be

 The grills are sold separately, which i did think was a little bit weird for the 600 price tag. But again this is where it gets weird, because at 300 bucks the grill is being sold separately. I'D be like, ah, whatever no big deal, but anyhow, let's get into the sound okay, so the top and the treble it's not going to have a sharp attack. Nor will it have a smooth attack

 One other thing to note: i guess uh, it's love or hate. Is the logo is gon na be kind of just like tacked on the top. I think it looks great other people, i've seen say they think it's like a cheap look. I actually like it and i say hats off to kef for trying something different with the logo

 It does seem to look a little bit like a five year old took a paintbrush to it when you get up close - and i wouldn't be the first person to say that the kef q line overall fit and finish is a little on the cheap side. Looking when you get close to it, but from a few feet away, it does look fantastic anyhow, so the speaker is 600 bucks and it does go on sale a few times a year for as little as 300, which was kind of strange during my evaluation period. I kept asking myself: is it a 300 speaker? Is it a 600 speaker? I decided to kind of just right in the middle call it a 450 speaker - and i do i do wish, instead of giving it such a deep discount, kef just sold it year round for a little bit of a lower price. I think that would avoid a lot of hurt feelings because i got to say if i bought these for 600 bucks, i would be pissed off if just a few months later, i saw them on sale for 300

KEF Q-150 Bookshelf Speaker Review. Best for lovers of wide imaging.

 I like fake wood, it's nice, it's got some grain in it. It'S well appointed. I like the little kef badging. It looks good uh anyway, uh five and a quarter inch aluminum, woofer yep and a one inch aluminum vented tweeter, that's concentrically mounted, which means it's in the middle and then it uses uh the woofer as a waveguide shoots sound all over crazy places

 They they seem bigger than they are and they sound they sound bigger. They sound like a 300 speaker, though they sound like a good 300 speaker um. To me this sounds better than the kef ls50. That might be just crazy talk

 If you tweak it, you can get. You can get this thing just to the next level uh. If you listen below 75 db, you're, fine, you don't even need a subwoofer nope. You don't they're that good with the bass
