The laptop sleeve holds a surface laptop with room to spare, but it goes to the bottom of the bag so be careful if setting down your bag hard. There is not much padding on the bottom to protect it. It's just small enough that I would struggle to use it for anything other than a weekend airline trip or a casual day-pack around the city. Your millage may vary!

The padded straps were very cushiony upon purchase but with time and heavy textbooks, they did eventually rip. If you know how to sew, it can be fixed though.
