 okay. so it's electronic, so i'll keep the five stars and make sure the level stays below the recommended level. however, even when the level is half full, there are still days when it won't build pressure. the element heats, the timer begins and ends, but no pressure

 now, being a veteran pressure cooker user, i have made small to large batches of chicken and meat in my hawkins and have never had to worry that the cooker is too full. with this one, as soon as the level went beyond 2/3rds, i didn't get any pressure. okay. so it's electronic, so i'll keep the five stars and make sure the level stays below the recommended level

 I have used the saute button which works fairly well especially if wanting to lessen the amount of pots/pans to use. I will continue to try different IP recipes in the 6 qt as long as it continues to work..

 So the reason for the 4 stars rating. Today I'm going to try another recipe and see if it continues to have the same issue.  I am not by any stretch of the imagination an expert, more of an sort of "advanced" (and I use this term loosely) beginner. It can be intimidating to use it in the beginning, but I started with "easy" recipes first in order to get to know how it worked and I still prefer the easy ones where the recipe calls for throwing everything in (no sauteing), check that the seal and lid are tight, vent is set to sealing, turn on, set the time, on to other things while it "cooks", listen for the beep that it is done, do either a natural release or a quick release, and serve

Love the Instant Pot Concept

I'm new to pressure cooking, and it makes me a little nervous! But I read a lot of good things about the instant pot so I decided to take the plunge and buy one.  I originally bought the 6 qt size and it was too heavy for me to lift in and out of a cabinet frequently. It might have been ok if it was going to stay on a counter and always be out. This smaller size is easier to move around, and since I'm not feeding a family, it's fine for me

  But in general, for something that would normally take more than an hour on the stove or oven, this can work well. For me, if I can cook it on the stove or oven, start to finish, in an hour or so, I'll usually chose the stove or oven. The instant pot cook time might be 15 minutes, but with the warm up and cool down, it can take an hour there too.  Safety issues I have are with the steam release valve

 It might have been ok if it was going to stay on a counter and always be out. This smaller size is easier to move around, and since I'm not feeding a family, it's fine for me. I might get the bigger one if I had the counter space so I could make larger batches of food at once, but for now this one's fine.  So far it's worked well

3 Qt is a good size for 1 or 2 people

 That hasn’t seemed to make a difference from what I can tell though.  Now to some specific tips: Getting the lid on properly: The instructions say to line up the arrows to get the lid aligned with the pot before you close it and seal the vent. The arrows are really hard to see and honestly, you don’t need them. Don’t bother painting them white like some folks suggest

 I love, love, love making an Olive Garden copycat Zuppa Toscana in it.  It’s not Instant Cooking..

Updated 12/9/2018 Still going strong, still using the heck out of it. Made a cheesecake last night after I cooked a corned beef! Glad to have two different color sealing rings so the cake doesn't smell like corned beef. The Instant Pot folks have a two pack of rings, red and blue, quite handy. I use red for everyday and blue for sweets

 Use common sense and you will be just fine!  This is a great purchase – you’ll love it!

Nearly three years later, what I’ve learned

 I looked it up and that code means the pot has a defect - a faulty pressure sensor. Now it's just a giant paperweight. I contacted IP but because my pot is 3 years old, the best I can get is a 20 percent discount (but not here on Amazon where I shop all the time). It's not worth it

 I do this when I am cooking ahead of time. The main thing is to learn what position the button needs to be in on your model before you attempt to remove the lid. It does not brown or crisp foods. You can get some result on some foods using the Saute function but using the oven or air fryer to finish is best  Like most people, I didn't even use my IP for a few days after getting it because I was so scared of the thing

  A couple of notes I wish I'd known before: 1. The difference in size is important. I started with a 6-qt and moved up to the 8-qt and I'm cooking mainly for one This is a great photo showing the difference in sizes is courtesy online of "Mama Shire" 2.  For the price, I would not only gladly buy this again for myself, but am planning on buying a few to give as gifts to family members/friends who I know have the cheaper stands that came in their kits. I couldn't be happier.  If you want to upgrade your current setup from the cheap nonsense you get in the store-bought kits, or are planning on investing in your first fryer setup (or setup for seafood boils, etc) and just want to make sure you get the most for your money and something that will last, this is DEFINITELY the way to go.

 This is the kind of stand that lasts a lifetime. There is absolutely no give, no flexing, no bending, and no stability issues at all. For the price, I would not only gladly buy this again for myself, but am planning on buying a few to give as gifts to family members/friends who I know have the cheaper stands that came in their kits.   The only negative thing I have found with the unit is its height. Since I'm a very tall guy, cooking on the ground is not an option for me. Even seated I'm having to bend over to cook which is not comfortable. I can put it on my outdoor counter top but that puts my wok nearly at chin level

 The problem was the burner itself. So I gave up and sent it back.  I still give this 3 stars because it did work pretty well at lower settings -- it was about as powerful as what you'd get from a high-end Wolf indoor gas range or the like (~15kBTU). But from an outdoor burner, I expect a lot more

 I called the manufacturer twice -- on the first call, I got a rather unhelpful gentlemen who basically told me "you don't really need all that heat" and that was that. Well, I bought this unit because I want a lot of heat, and all the reviews indicate that this burner ought to give you a lot of heat. So that wasn't really acceptable. I called again a few days later and got somebody a bit more helpful, who sent me a new regulator and hose

It's LOW LOW LOW and that's a safety factor for me b/c my buddy has the higher version of this and I don't feel safe standing by it especially taking the crawfish out when done

 I'll complain if the company is worth it - seems like these guys don't want to take care of their customers. I'm not rating on missing parts/crappy customer service or the likes. I'm giving a rating on the item itself - if rocks! Errrrrr even with teh 10psi regulator ;) I should have purchased their higher end one - maybe it would come with a 20psi regulator?  On the BTU now.

Great little burner - bummer on the BTU!

 This unit excels at producing an 80,000 BTU roar but it is difficult to adjust for lower cooking temperatures. UPDATE AFTER SIX MONTHS OF USE: This cooker needs a much better gas flow control valve. It is very difficult to adjust the size of the flame with the tiny valve that comes with the unit. A larger adjusting valve would allow you to adjust the flame size so you can cook at lower temperatures
