I want a shoe that has the cushion and drop of my Hoka Speedgoat with the toebox of my Altra Olympus 4.0.

Beware they do run very narrow at the toe and are not for everyone. If you needed the extra toe room you could look to the Hoka EVO Speedgoat,. EVO Mafate 2 or the Mafate Speed 3, all of which are high cushioned but have a stretchy bit of fabric over the toe, which can make the fit more accommodating.

I currently run in Nike Pegasus Trail Gore Tex. they are ok. But not great. 

Recently switched my road shoes to Hoka Rincon 2 for slower, longer runs and Saucony Endorphin Pro for speed runs.  I quite like the cushioning on the Rincons and am now looking for a trail shoe.

Need a new pair of shoes. Are the Hoka One One Speedgoat 4s a good choice?

Shoes for long days of running &amp; hiking

I’ve done a couple ultras in loose snow, which felt a lot like running in sand to me. I’ve used both the SpeedCross and Hoka SpeedGoat. The ‘goats might have had the advantage due to the much wider sole helping with flotation, but I felt they got a lot heavier when wet. In all instances I studded the soles with about 8 sheet metal screws at the end of some select lugs, which I felt helped with a little extra grip even when ice wasn’t an issue

Wondering if anyone had any advice about shoes that may be better suited for sandy environments. I’m used to running in rocky, rooty, muddy Vermont environments and want to be better prepared for a trail that is relatively flat but very sandy. I currently sport the Salomon speed cross 5s and have used them in sand before but really don’t feel like the larger lugs give any advantage

Recommendations for trail shoes for sand

For years I wore boots (really heavy), then shoes (heavy) and now trail runners (not so heavy). I prefer the Hoka One Speedgoat trail runners. They are good for dry conditions, have great grip and stability (for me). I have never had ankle stability issues, so it works great

Does anyone backpack with trail running shoes? If boots, do you use actual “backpacking” boots or just something with ankle support?

, (4) have great cushioning for all-day wear on sharp surfaces, and (5) are not so heavy that I feel like I'm fighting the shoe when picking up the pace. I've run in Altra Timps and Lone Peaks, Brooks Caldera 4, La Sportiva Jackal, Salomon Sense Ride 3, and Topo MTN Racer 1s and none of these had all-day underfoot cushioning and protection against sharps like the Speedgoats. The durability of my Speedgoats have been good.

New trail running shoes

I run in the Speedgoat 3s and the Speedgoat 4 is a step back for me with regards to weight since it got heavier. The Speedgoat Evo on the other hand, is a huge improvement and superior to the Speedgoat 3 and 4.

For 3 season hiking I chose Hoka speedgoat 3, followed very closely by the brooks cascadia. They're both VERY comfortable shoes that are light and breath + dry very well. Lightness + Breathability + Drying quickly > a heavy gnarly boot that tries to keep you clean and dry but inevitably will get water logged from sweat anyway or the elements, just might take longer vs a trail runner. Also 1 pound on your foot is 5 pounds on your back

I'm  new to hiking but my girlfriend finally convinced me to go to a hiking  trip with her, somewhere around Schönau am Königssee and on the mountain area around it (nothing extreme tho). I've been looking for some proper shoes cause I'm  pretty sure I would regret it if I go with my ultra boost, and I've  found a few alternative:

1. Salomon  Quest Prime GTX: The only boots. Is it okay or overkill? I think it's  the most robust of them all and I can wear it when hiking during winter  or ski vacation. (114 euro)
2. Salomon  XA Pro 3D V8: trail runners, seems really comfy. However, no  waterproofness (can't use it in winter). I don't know if it offers  enough protection and grip? (96 euro)
3. Salomon  Trailster 2 GTX: quite similer to the XA, with GTX waterproofness.  However I've heard some controversy regarding GTX on trail runners (too  warm, sweaty feet). (72 euro)
4. Last  but not least: Merell Moab 2 (vents or GTX). Mother of all boots.  Almost bought the vents one immediately but read that it's really,  really prone to getting wet (even with just some wet grass). Not sure if  it's true and if I should just get the GTX version. Both around 80-90  euro.

What do you guys  think? Sadly I can't go to Globetrotter cause of the 'rona. I appreciate  any answer or if you have other suggestions, I would be very thankful!  Thanks and sorry for the long post. :)

<p>UPDATE: Hey guys, I ordered both Merrell Moab Mid GTX (boots) and Salomon XA Pro 3D v8 non-GTX (trail runner) and will compare which one is more comfy. I think salomon would be more versatile and less of an overkill but let&#39;s see. Kinda tempted of the idea of having  &quot;real&quot; boots in addition to my Timbs for winter :)</p>

 Hi guys, welcome to Let's Get Running, I'm Tony James and today we're going to look at the Reebok Floatride Energy Symmetros Shoe.  So yeah, we're looking at the Reebok Symmetros Shoe with its Floatride Energy Midsole. Thank you to everybody on the YouTube channel who have been saying to me over the last couple of months, give Reebok some love, have a look at Reebok, have a look at Reebok, have a look at Reebok. So we've done it, we've gone ahead, we've bought the Reebok Symmetros Shoe and I'm going to run through it with you now and tell you what I think about this. So first of all, some stats about this, it's on the Reebok website, it is normally £100 but at the moment it is reduced to £70 which to be honest, I think is a bargain

 Now it's a mid price shoe, it's not a high end shoe, it's not a cheapy shoe, it's a mid range shoe and it just feels so plush when you land, I think that's the best way, it's just plush when you land. There's no firmness in it, there's no kick when you push off, it's just a nice soft landing and when I did my first couple of runs in these, I thought this shoe feels like you can go for miles and miles, it feels like it will eat those miles up. I felt that way about it so I ran a marathon in it, yep that's right I've done a full marathon in this shoe a couple of weeks ago, the Amsterdam virtual marathon, you can watch the video, I'll put the link up there somewhere, I actually ran it in this shoe and I ran it in 3 hours 53 minutes, so yes this shoe is a mile eater, it's perfect, it's perfect for eating up those miles, as a daily trainer if you're doing a 5k, 10k around town, brilliant, if you're doing some track work for your speed work, it's brilliant for that and if you're going for a long Sunday run it works as well and as I say I've done a full marathon distance in this, after the marathon did my legs feel beat up because there's no carbon plates or what have you, I felt fatigued because I'd done 3 marathons in 14 days but was any of that fatigue down to wearing this shoe that didn't have a carbon plate, I don't know but I don't think it did, I just think I was tired after doing 3 marathons, a couple of days and then the aches and pains were gone, the doms were gone, so yeah as I say I thought this shoe would eat up the miles and having done 26.2 it can, so I think it's a good all versatile everyday training shoe that if you want to run long distance and run a marathon in it you can do, if you just want to do it for your daily training, brilliant, it is so plush when you land on this shoe, I'm going to say I'm liking the float ride energy more than the adidas lightstrike and you know how much I like that lightstrike so yeah I've been impressed with this shoe, very impressed indeed, right let's have a look at the outsole, as I say there are no carbon plates involved in this mid range running shoe but carbon is involved, carbon infused rubber on the outsole, so there you go have a look at that, done 60 miles in it, there's a little bit of grime in there, a little bit of the old road grime and stones and whatever is stuck in there but as you can see 60 miles in and there's no signs of anywhere at all, anywhere along that outsole, so yeah it's carbonised rubber outsole and Reebok themselves say it is designed for great traction, worn it in the dry, worn it in the wet, no issues whatsoever with any slippage, even doing on light trails it's been okay, running across wet grass obviously in a normal road shoe every time you run across wet grass you do get a little bit of slipping so we've had it in that instance but try and stay off the grass everywhere else it seems to be great, so the Reebok Symetros, so there you go that's the little round up of the stats and how it feels on and the various components on it, this shoe brilliant, I've run a marathon in it, that says it all, if I can do the 26
