I want a shoe that has the cushion and drop of my Hoka Speedgoat with the toebox of my Altra Olympus 4.0.

Beware they do run very narrow at the toe and are not for everyone. If you needed the extra toe room you could look to the Hoka EVO Speedgoat,. EVO Mafate 2 or the Mafate Speed 3, all of which are high cushioned but have a stretchy bit of fabric over the toe, which can make the fit more accommodating.

I currently run in Nike Pegasus Trail Gore Tex. they are ok. But not great.

Shoes for long days of running &amp; hiking

I’ve done a couple ultras in loose snow, which felt a lot like running in sand to me. I’ve used both the SpeedCross and Hoka SpeedGoat. The ‘goats might have had the advantage due to the much wider sole helping with flotation, but I felt they got a lot heavier when wet. In all instances I studded the soles with about 8 sheet metal screws at the end of some select lugs, which I felt helped with a little extra grip even when ice wasn’t an issue

Wondering if anyone had any advice about shoes that may be better suited for sandy environments. I’m used to running in rocky, rooty, muddy Vermont environments and want to be better prepared for a trail that is relatively flat but very sandy. Recommendations for trail shoes for sand

For years I wore boots (really heavy), then shoes (heavy) and now trail runners (not so heavy). I prefer the Hoka One Speedgoat trail runners. They are good for dry conditions, have great grip and stability (for me). I have never had ankle stability issues, so it works great

Does anyone backpack with trail running shoes? If boots, do you use actual “backpacking” boots or just something with ankle support?

, (4) have great cushioning for all-day wear on sharp surfaces, and (5) are not so heavy that I feel like I'm fighting the shoe when picking up the pace. I've run in Altra Timps and Lone Peaks, Brooks Caldera 4, La Sportiva Jackal, Salomon Sense Ride 3, and Topo MTN Racer 1s and none of these had all-day underfoot cushioning and protection against sharps like the Speedgoats. The durability of my Speedgoats have been good.

New trail running shoes

I run in the Speedgoat 3s and the Speedgoat 4 is a step back for me with regards to weight since it got heavier. The Speedgoat Evo on the other hand, is a huge improvement and superior to the Speedgoat 3 and 4.

For 3 season hiking I chose Hoka speedgoat 3, followed very closely by the brooks cascadia. They're both VERY comfortable shoes that are light and breath + dry very well. Lightness + Breathability + Drying quickly > a heavy gnarly boot that tries to keep you clean and dry but inevitably will get water logged from sweat anyway or the elements, just might take longer vs a trail runner. Also 1 pound on your foot is 5 pounds on your back

I'm  new to hiking but my girlfriend finally convinced me to go to a hiking  trip with her, somewhere around Schönau am Königssee and on the mountain area around it (nothing extreme tho). I've been looking for some proper shoes cause I'm  pretty sure I would regret it if I go with my ultra boost, and I've  found a few alternative:

1. Salomon  Quest Prime GTX: The only boots. Is it okay or overkill? I think it's  the most robust of them all and I can wear it when hiking during winter  or ski vacation. (114 euro)
2. Salomon  XA Pro 3D V8: trail runners, seems really comfy. However, no  waterproofness (can't use it in winter). I don't know if it offers  enough protection and grip? (96 euro)
3. Salomon  Trailster 2 GTX: quite similer to the XA, with GTX waterproofness.  However I've heard some controversy regarding GTX on trail runners (too  warm, sweaty feet). (72 euro)
4. Last  but not least: Merell Moab 2 (vents or GTX). Mother of all boots.  Almost bought the vents one immediately but read that it's really,  really prone to getting wet (even with just some wet grass). Not sure if  it's true and if I should just get the GTX version. Both around 80-90  euro.

What do you guys  think? Sadly I can't go to Globetrotter cause of the 'rona. I appreciate  any answer or if you have other suggestions, I would be very thankful!  Thanks and sorry for the long post. :)

<p>UPDATE: Hey guys, I ordered both Merrell Moab Mid GTX (boots) and Salomon XA Pro 3D v8 non-GTX (trail runner) and will compare which one is more comfy. I think salomon would be more versatile and less of an overkill but let&#39;s see. Kinda tempted of the idea of having  &quot;real&quot; boots in addition to my Timbs for winter :)</p>

Hi, it's nick from the run testers, and this is our review of the puma liberate [ Music, ] nitro, the liberate nitro is part of puma's new range, obviously uh. It'S the cheapest shoe in the range at 90 pounds or 110 dollars, and it's also the lightest shoe it's a really stripped back kind of lightweight shoe, very flexible, very nice, and it comes in. Basically, i guess, as kind of an all-rounder option beneath the velocity nitro, which is kind of, i think, a very versatile shoe. But it's much more cushioned, more comfy shoe and then the deviate nitro, which has a carbon plate in it

 I think this is a really good outsole material and it's on the shoe - and it's quite impressive. You know there is such a decent covering of rubber there, considering that shoe is under 200 grams, so yeah, all in all, we've got kind of a pair back addition to puma's range, a nice lightweight shoe to go with other great shoes like the velocity nitro and The nitro, let's see how the liberate nitro got [ Music, ] uh terms of fit, are true to size. In this shoe, it's the same size i wore in the velocity nitro and the dv8 nitro no problems at the front plenty of nice kind of room around the toe box there and easy to get a nice tight, fit around the midfoot problems at the heel um. We might talk about them now, we'll talk about them in the running section, but yeah

 Each day it was great for that. You know kind of whatever pace, you're doing for those runs. This covers them really nicely had no problems with cushioning had no problems with hill irritation, so it fitted really well for that. So i do think this kind of, if you're a runner like me, who doesn't tend to on the longer side of it look higher mileage

 I think i prefer a slightly maybe stiffer design a card plate design. It'S like more bouncy design, but um yeah. I think they're quite similar, but i think the rebel v2 is a slightly better shoe than the liberate. It is obviously 30 pounds more but yeah not having those worries about the longer runs

Puma Liberate Nitro Review: A lightweight daily trainer for £90

There a bunch of upcoming shoes that will fit well in this spot that have been getting positive reviews as well. These are the Hoka Mach 4, New Balance Fuelcell Rebel 2, Saucony Freedom 4, Puma Liberate Nitro, and Skechers Razor Excess.

All this time, this is the puma liberate nitro, it's a stripped down, speed shoe with nothing but puma's brand new nitro foam. That gives us a perfect chance to see exactly what this foam is made of. So, let's take the puma liberate the nitro out for a midweek long run workout and put it to the test. [ Music ] 13

 I was really thinking that, given how kind of firm it is up front because there isn't a lot of stack height in this shoe, i was really thinking that, towards the end of my run today i was going to just be dying in the toes. I just felt like i was really going to be taking a beating there, but my feet felt great for the entire run, at least in terms of how much space my feet had in this shoe, while also still feeling secure enough that i could bring this shoe Up to speed and keep it at a sustained level of effort for a very, very long time, so super impressed with the upper. That'S in this shoe really absolutely nailed it with this one. It just fits fantastic and it's super light

 This shoe has only nitro foam in it and that's why i found it so fascinating and why i wanted to be the next puma shoe that i tried from their totally revamped running shoe lineup for 2021 on the outsole. We'Ve got puma grip and there is a big area of exposed foam in the middle up top. We have a mono mesh upper which is see-through in most places and there's just very little structure. There'S very little of anything in this shoe

3 ounces or 179 grams. So what was it like to run it in this nitro foam and what is that nitrophone really like? I will say that in the amount that they're using in this shoe, the nitrofoam is extremely squishy. Surprisingly squishy, it's not usually a sensation that i tend to uh to think about when i'm thinking about nitro based foams, but it just definitely has a squishiness to it. But there is a limit to it

Puma Liberate Nitro - First Run

Puma for me is true to size. For reference, I get the same size in Hokas but I find Hoka to be much more narrow in the toe box. I'd say specific to the Puma Liberate Nitro that it has a snug racer like fit on the midfoot, but it works. Asics I find to be a touch longer

I've read a number of reviews on the Velocity, but some reviews seem to say they are a half size long. How did you do sizing when you bought yours and would you do it differently on another pair? I normally do a 10.5. Thank you as always for your expertise!
