I want a shoe that has the cushion and drop of my Hoka Speedgoat with the toebox of my Altra Olympus 4.0.

Beware they do run very narrow at the toe and are not for everyone. If you needed the extra toe room you could look to the Hoka EVO Speedgoat,. EVO Mafate 2 or the Mafate Speed 3, all of which are high cushioned but have a stretchy bit of fabric over the toe, which can make the fit more accommodating.

I currently run in Nike Pegasus Trail Gore Tex. they are ok. But not great. 

Recently switched my road shoes to Hoka Rincon 2 for slower, longer runs and Saucony Endorphin Pro for speed runs.  I quite like the cushioning on the Rincons and am now looking for a trail shoe.

Shoes for long days of running &amp; hiking

I’ve done a couple ultras in loose snow, which felt a lot like running in sand to me. I’ve used both the SpeedCross and Hoka SpeedGoat. The ‘goats might have had the advantage due to the much wider sole helping with flotation, but I felt they got a lot heavier when wet. In all instances I studded the soles with about 8 sheet metal screws at the end of some select lugs, which I felt helped with a little extra grip even when ice wasn’t an issue

Wondering if anyone had any advice about shoes that may be better suited for sandy environments. I’m used to running in rocky, rooty, muddy Vermont environments and want to be better prepared for a trail that is relatively flat but very sandy. I currently sport the Salomon speed cross 5s and have used them in sand before but really don’t feel like the larger lugs give any advantage

Recommendations for trail shoes for sand

For years I wore boots (really heavy), then shoes (heavy) and now trail runners (not so heavy). I prefer the Hoka One Speedgoat trail runners. They are good for dry conditions, have great grip and stability (for me). I have never had ankle stability issues, so it works great

Does anyone backpack with trail running shoes? If boots, do you use actual “backpacking” boots or just something with ankle support?

, (4) have great cushioning for all-day wear on sharp surfaces, and (5) are not so heavy that I feel like I'm fighting the shoe when picking up the pace. I've run in Altra Timps and Lone Peaks, Brooks Caldera 4, La Sportiva Jackal, Salomon Sense Ride 3, and Topo MTN Racer 1s and none of these had all-day underfoot cushioning and protection against sharps like the Speedgoats. The durability of my Speedgoats have been good.

New trail running shoes

I run in the Speedgoat 3s and the Speedgoat 4 is a step back for me with regards to weight since it got heavier. The Speedgoat Evo on the other hand, is a huge improvement and superior to the Speedgoat 3 and 4.

For 3 season hiking I chose Hoka speedgoat 3, followed very closely by the brooks cascadia. They're both VERY comfortable shoes that are light and breath + dry very well. Lightness + Breathability + Drying quickly > a heavy gnarly boot that tries to keep you clean and dry but inevitably will get water logged from sweat anyway or the elements, just might take longer vs a trail runner. Also 1 pound on your foot is 5 pounds on your back

I'm  new to hiking but my girlfriend finally convinced me to go to a hiking  trip with her, somewhere around Schönau am Königssee and on the mountain area around it (nothing extreme tho). I've been looking for some proper shoes cause I'm  pretty sure I would regret it if I go with my ultra boost, and I've  found a few alternative:

1. Salomon  Quest Prime GTX: The only boots. Is it okay or overkill? I think it's  the most robust of them all and I can wear it when hiking during winter  or ski vacation. (114 euro)
2. Salomon  XA Pro 3D V8: trail runners, seems really comfy. However, no  waterproofness (can't use it in winter). I don't know if it offers  enough protection and grip? (96 euro)
3. Salomon  Trailster 2 GTX: quite similer to the XA, with GTX waterproofness.  However I've heard some controversy regarding GTX on trail runners (too  warm, sweaty feet). (72 euro)
4. Last  but not least: Merell Moab 2 (vents or GTX). Mother of all boots.  Almost bought the vents one immediately but read that it's really,  really prone to getting wet (even with just some wet grass). Not sure if  it's true and if I should just get the GTX version. Both around 80-90  euro.

What do you guys  think? Sadly I can't go to Globetrotter cause of the 'rona. I appreciate  any answer or if you have other suggestions, I would be very thankful!  Thanks and sorry for the long post. :)

Nike Zoom Fly 3 Full Review | Vaporweave vs. Flyknit?

 So the big update to this shoe is the all-new upper you've got this new thing, yet supportive upper called vapor we've compared to last year's Flyknit upper. This vapor we've for the sick of getting to the point was an overall upgrade from last year's flying it. It is just as breathable, but it secures the foot in better and accommodates pretty well after a few airs. With this suck like upper set up, the shoe has a good rep round feel the laces attached through that outer layer mesh that helps dial in the fit securely their tongue is thin and stretchy and felt comfortable against the foot the heel counter hasn't give, which is Fine in most cases, but I had some Hill slipping in this case, I had to use the extra life loops to lock in the hill, which helps some

 So you know if I see you're a fan of the fly, knit material. It wasn't for me a little too narrow whenever you ran in the rain, it got a little heavy, but it's got this new vapor. We'Ve upper that I'm personally, a very big fan of its lighter, feels more comfortable to a more snug but not too narrow. A few I'm saying say a wider toe box, but it kind of feels more supportive for your foot, a slightly more stable in the heel, which is awesome

 It'S fine now as far as the bad, this shoe does feel a bit heavier than it did last year. Maybe it's the new rubber, or maybe it's the vapor weave upper being so light that it makes the rest of the shoe feel unbalanced. But regardless, if this shoe is meant for racing, it just feels like it's more sure than it needs to be compared to the vapor fly series. This shoe just fit a bit better as far as having a wider base for your foot to stand on, but it is still not the most stable platform ever

 It'S a bit more of an affordable carbon play racing option for those who rather not spend that extra $ 100. The past couple of zoom flies for me have been decent and with new updates from last year. We figured it'd be worth looking into to see what this new version has to offer. This is our review of the nike zoom fly 3

NIKE ZOOM FLY 3 REVIEW: THE GOOD , THE BAD... THE HYPE

- Brooks Glycerin 17: cushy but too sloppy. Will use for recovery runs but prefer NB1080v10

So, I’m liking the top 3, but want something cushioned but a bit more responsive. Rincons are nice but would like something a bit firmer like the Kinavara or Brooks Hyperion Tempo but..

- Hoka Rincon: bought to have cushion but with some spring to pick up the pace. Replaced Nike Zoom Fly 3 

 For example, it's the following morning from that run footage that you just saw and all this material, the padding on the heel cup and all the material. That'S back here, still a little bit damp and everything inside the shoe still feeling damp in there as well. So it's not the quickest drying shoe that I thought it would be. Water is getting in there and when I get a lot of water and there certainly drains out, but it retains a little bit of moisture and, for example, on the run that I did with SJD when he came into town

 I took out the stock insole, which is very thin, prized just a little bit of cushion, and I replaced it with this insult that I previously described as something that was superfluous and unnecessary. But it was kind of expensive. I think it was like $ 80 or something that I got at Roadrunner Sports and I decided I would hold on to it just because there was no reason to throw it away. Doesn'T take up that much space, so I held on to put these in

 It'S actually not fine. The white part of this shoe has yellowed considerably and it's not because I took it on dirt roads or anything like that, which sometimes I do have a chance to do, but it just seems like this has discolor, so everything is kind of like a yellowish like Tannish tint on this parts that are the vapor we've what you could see on some of those rubber parts here that this is what the white originally looked like. So you get a sense of the difference or if you look at kind on the heel or on the white, react foam what that white originally looked like, but underneath its discoloring, and that's because I think that a lot of this does have vapor weave on it. And it's advertised as having vapor weave, but it's kind of like not vapor, weave everywhere or there is vapor weave on it

 A lot of harder efforts, but from the sweat dripping down my leg and getting into the shoe, I could definitely hear some squishiness in there, so the vapor weave, I think the vapor weave, is evaporating fine. It'S just this other stuff, that's in here which is retaining a lot of moisture. So that's been disappointing and I also think that's been cause of the discoloration granted the material that was inside the neoprene was white, but the match was an off-white color like a different color to begin with and I'll post some footage from the first-run video, where I Have some b-roll of the shoe before I ever wore it, so you get a sense of maybe what those differences are, but there's been a definite, significant discoloration of the shoe, maybe if you're not running in as much water as I am. You won't have that problem, but I've also noted that there's stuff that's getting in between the two layers of the material

Nike Zoom Fly 3 - After 100 Miles

 Okay, let's talk about the midsole. It'S a carbon fiber plate inside this forty millimeter stack height, plus the Nike epoch, react midsole foam which they developed I'll have to find. Well, there was an NBA player. Who was it it wasn't? I think it was a golden draymond Green

 It'S that brand new vapor weave upper that you're, seeing in the next percent as well, but the major difference is definitely the inside cavity of the zoom fly 3. It'S got a a very comfortable sock liner inside this shoe that as soon as I slip the shoe on my foot today, I was, I felt it immediately. It felt so nice, as my foot was going into the shoe okay. What else? Oh yeah! I guess let me just think well, there's no fly wire cables and just so you know, Nike is phasing out the fly wire cables from their uppers, which I frankly I didn't mind

 It feels really really nice so I'll, be excited to see how it holds up and the sock liner inside and then also how it performs at higher speeds like yeah. Just what it feels like it, let's say for me like sub six-minute pace, will be interesting to find out and for one drawback, I'm struggling I'm struggling to find a drawback, which means this is a good sign, hopefully for the future. For this shoe, if I had to choose one though I'll go the weight, I didn't feel heavy though, but I'll go with the weight, as maybe a potential drawback for the zoom fly 3, and how do I foresee using the zoom fly 3 moving forward? I'M just gon na say threshold runs so fast. Ok when I'm ready to get ready for a marathon, and I want to go, do a six mile threshold

 Let you decide there, but does 160 dollars like what's that cutoff point in your mind I know some people that will buy shoes that are over $ 90. They just go. They always buy last year's version in last year's model, or some people collect running shoes and they'll pay. You know two hundred and fifty dollars for the next percent so anyway, just I'm just trying to gauge if you feel comfortable, sharing I'll, be curious to hear your thoughts because guess what it matters, because we're buying shoes all the time as runners

 But you know, runners are different, there's different people with different strides, and some people heel strike some people toe strike, and that's just what I've been told for my running friends. I wish they had options to make them wider. The react material is super nice and it is super felt though the upper is really interesting, though it has that same material that they had last year with a lot of the running shoes. It'S that clear sort of see-through material

 There leave a comment if you want and let other people know if you like running in them, it seems like it would be a really good shoe for running, probably pretty darn comfortable for long distance. I think, ultimately, your decision should hinge on whether or not you like the look of the shoe if you like the overall fit of the shoes, so try it on. If you can for me, it fit true to size and again I just don't love the tongue. I don't love the width, the shoe, so personally, it's like a 7 out of 10 for me, but that's my thoughts leave some thoughts in the comment section, what you guys think and if you guys enjoy the video a thumbs up
