I want a shoe that has the cushion and drop of my Hoka Speedgoat with the toebox of my Altra Olympus 4.0.

Beware they do run very narrow at the toe and are not for everyone. If you needed the extra toe room you could look to the Hoka EVO Speedgoat,. EVO Mafate 2 or the Mafate Speed 3, all of which are high cushioned but have a stretchy bit of fabric over the toe, which can make the fit more accommodating.

I currently run in Nike Pegasus Trail Gore Tex. they are ok. But not great.

Shoes for long days of running &amp; hiking

I’ve done a couple ultras in loose snow, which felt a lot like running in sand to me. I’ve used both the SpeedCross and Hoka SpeedGoat. The ‘goats might have had the advantage due to the much wider sole helping with flotation, but I felt they got a lot heavier when wet. In all instances I studded the soles with about 8 sheet metal screws at the end of some select lugs, which I felt helped with a little extra grip even when ice wasn’t an issue

Wondering if anyone had any advice about shoes that may be better suited for sandy environments. I’m used to running in rocky, rooty, muddy Vermont environments and want to be better prepared for a trail that is relatively flat but very sandy. I currently sport the Salomon speed cross 5s and have used them in sand before but really don’t feel like the larger lugs give any advantage

Recommendations for trail shoes for sand

For years I wore boots (really heavy), then shoes (heavy) and now trail runners (not so heavy). I prefer the Hoka One Speedgoat trail runners. They are good for dry conditions, have great grip and stability (for me). I have never had ankle stability issues, so it works great

Does anyone backpack with trail running shoes? If boots, do you use actual “backpacking” boots or just something with ankle support?

, (4) have great cushioning for all-day wear on sharp surfaces, and (5) are not so heavy that I feel like I'm fighting the shoe when picking up the pace. I've run in Altra Timps and Lone Peaks, Brooks Caldera 4, La Sportiva Jackal, Salomon Sense Ride 3, and Topo MTN Racer 1s and none of these had all-day underfoot cushioning and protection against sharps like the Speedgoats. The durability of my Speedgoats have been good.

New trail running shoes

I run in the Speedgoat 3s and the Speedgoat 4 is a step back for me with regards to weight since it got heavier. The Speedgoat Evo on the other hand, is a huge improvement and superior to the Speedgoat 3 and 4.

For 3 season hiking I chose Hoka speedgoat 3, followed very closely by the brooks cascadia. They're both VERY comfortable shoes that are light and breath + dry very well. Lightness + Breathability + Drying quickly > a heavy gnarly boot that tries to keep you clean and dry but inevitably will get water logged from sweat anyway or the elements, just might take longer vs a trail runner. Also 1 pound on your foot is 5 pounds on your back

I'm  new to hiking but my girlfriend finally convinced me to go to a hiking  trip with her, somewhere around Schönau am Königssee and on the mountain area around it (nothing extreme tho). I've been looking for some proper shoes cause I'm  pretty sure I would regret it if I go with my ultra boost, and I've  found a few alternative:

1. Salomon  Quest Prime GTX: The only boots. Is it okay or overkill? I think it's  the most robust of them all and I can wear it when hiking during winter  or ski vacation. (114 euro)
2. Salomon  XA Pro 3D V8: trail runners, seems really comfy. However, no  waterproofness (can't use it in winter). I don't know if it offers  enough protection and grip? (96 euro)
3. Salomon  Trailster 2 GTX: quite similer to the XA, with GTX waterproofness.  However I've heard some controversy regarding GTX on trail runners (too  warm, sweaty feet). (72 euro)
4. Last  but not least: Merell Moab 2 (vents or GTX). Mother of all boots.  Almost bought the vents one immediately but read that it's really,  really prone to getting wet (even with just some wet grass). Not sure if  it's true and if I should just get the GTX version. Both around 80-90  euro.

What do you guys  think? Sadly I can't go to Globetrotter cause of the 'rona. I appreciate  any answer or if you have other suggestions, I would be very thankful!  Thanks and sorry for the long post. :)

I think salomon would be more versatile and less of an overkill but let&#39;s see. Kinda tempted of the idea of having  &quot;real&quot; boots in addition to my Timbs for winter :)</p>

 The heel of the Pegasus 37 just didn't seem as snug; I felt it slipping up and down with every step. Took 'em out for a spin around the block, on concrete and some unpaved roads; based on my experience, couldn't recommend for long runs. I'll stick with my sturdy Pegasus 34's. Donated the 37's to our local homeless shelter

Longtime fan of Nike Air Zoom Pegasus so decided to give this version a try. The style of the shoe compares favorably with its previous iterations but that's about all I liked. Pegasus 37 boasts "improved technology" in that it's a lighter-weight shoe with an enhanced footbed and low-profile heel design. I'm sure these changes will suit many wearers but I found the lightness oddly uncomfortable, as though my feet weren't really secure in the shoe

The Good, The Bad, The Upgrades

 So, even though it did swing over to that cushiony side, that's what people are wanting, that's what people are using for their race day. So all the shoes are swinging over there. I know it's just I'm gon na change yeah, but do I like it? I think overall, yes, but it is a cushion more built up right. I don't want call it clunkier, that's kind of hot

 I can't quite put it in like that best so far, category definitely solid. For me, it's about what I expect a different Pegasus, not necessarily a better one, and that's ok. I think it's someone who loves the older style, the whole lot online. A whole lot in stores you know Unseld and if they want something a little more cushion for the pushin, I think this new one is definitely way to go, so I don't mind that it's there's enough reason to want this

 It'S definitely the upper overall Mikey, I'm liking. How minimal and kind of how thin it is yet supportive I'm liking the translucent, look to it aesthetically his cords here to kind of keep that mid foot wrap in there. So he time up, stay snug! It'S very breathable to those engineered mesh is very forgiving yeah. I mean they kind of got spot on, but I want in a traditional everyday trainer, yeah not too flimsy, not overly supportive

NIKE AIR ZOOM PEGASUS 37 | A HONEST REVIEW (2020)

 You know throwback to Bill Bowerman and the original Nike, so this outsole tread pattern very reminiscent of a waffle iron. It'S just I just love it. I love it and a very large decoupled groove through this outsole and, frankly again, I think I love it. Just gives a little bit of I don't know just a little extra, I'm gon na say almost a little bit of a trampoline feel if you're, especially if you're a heel striker

 Okay, so now you know the weight in my size. We did it, we did it, we did it before the vlog was over, so that is cool, ok onward and upward the vlog might be over. It might not be over if it is over roll. The outro do woo

 So it did fine on the dirt um. You know buffed out trail type of running, so here we go full react, foam through the midsole and now an air bag, so a little air pocket underneath the forefoot and remember what I mentioned outside the couch, I'm actually not too upset that Nike sent me a Ladies version, because now I can do a cross test between I will, I will get the men's version might even arrive today stay tuned. I can do a cross test between the psi. Alright, the pounds per square inch in that air bag under the forefoot

 That is because this upper is a game. Changer huge update to the Pegasus lineup again not going to turn this into a running shoe battle, but like oh man, so much more breathable. So much lighter. I actually didn't mind the fly wire cables from previous iterations, but now they have replaced the fly wire cables here through the eyelet chain that wraps over the top of your foot

Finally, stay away from your small time stores if price is make or break for you. Yes, investing in your community is a noble thing; but if price is your key factor, avoid your local Run Mojo. Big stores like mine could afford to take a hit to get some shoes off our shelves.

I'm using the same running shoe model for over a decade, replacing my pair every time I need to a newer of the same. Do you think there's a major difference between buying the same shoe model of 2019 versus 2020 in terms of material deterioration and the effect of time on the shoe? 
I'm talking about buying a new, never used pair of shoes from the official vendor.

Obviously the older model is cheaper (considerably) and given that I cant try them on (covid) should I take something else into account? Not worried about differences in tech between the years, but rather shelf life

Shoe shelf life - is there a reason not to buy last year's shoe model?

 Being in motion with these shoes feels great but standing in em does not. They have an odd design suited for running but not standing. Along with a really out of place tie station, that curves to the sides of the foot. All in all I don’t hate em but I’m not crazy about it, especially considering the price

For running, but not gym wear.

 It feels great underfoot. I just love it in the Pegasus 37 nike decided to get rid of all the old foam and just used react on this shoe and it's much lighter it's much more responsive and it's softer not only that but nike also added a top loaded, forefoot zoom unit, Which is twice as large as any of the zoom units in previous Pegasus models. However, it's Justin four foot. In my opinion, this combination of react, foam and forefoot zoom is the perfect combination of cushion impact protection, softness and ground feel it just feels incredible
