I want a shoe that has the cushion and drop of my Hoka Speedgoat with the toebox of my Altra Olympus 4.0.

Beware they do run very narrow at the toe and are not for everyone. If you needed the extra toe room you could look to the Hoka EVO Speedgoat,. EVO Mafate 2 or the Mafate Speed 3, all of which are high cushioned but have a stretchy bit of fabric over the toe, which can make the fit more accommodating.

I currently run in Nike Pegasus Trail Gore Tex. they are ok. But not great.

Shoes for long days of running &amp; hiking

I’ve done a couple ultras in loose snow, which felt a lot like running in sand to me. I’ve used both the SpeedCross and Hoka SpeedGoat. The ‘goats might have had the advantage due to the much wider sole helping with flotation, but I felt they got a lot heavier when wet. In all instances I studded the soles with about 8 sheet metal screws at the end of some select lugs, which I felt helped with a little extra grip even when ice wasn’t an issue

Wondering if anyone had any advice about shoes that may be better suited for sandy environments. I’m used to running in rocky, rooty, muddy Vermont environments and want to be better prepared for a trail that is relatively flat but very sandy. I currently sport the Salomon speed cross 5s and have used them in sand before but really don’t feel like the larger lugs give any advantage

Recommendations for trail shoes for sand

For years I wore boots (really heavy), then shoes (heavy) and now trail runners (not so heavy). I prefer the Hoka One Speedgoat trail runners. They are good for dry conditions, have great grip and stability (for me). I have never had ankle stability issues, so it works great

Does anyone backpack with trail running shoes? If boots, do you use actual “backpacking” boots or just something with ankle support?

, (4) have great cushioning for all-day wear on sharp surfaces, and (5) are not so heavy that I feel like I'm fighting the shoe when picking up the pace. I've run in Altra Timps and Lone Peaks, Brooks Caldera 4, La Sportiva Jackal, Salomon Sense Ride 3, and Topo MTN Racer 1s and none of these had all-day underfoot cushioning and protection against sharps like the Speedgoats. The durability of my Speedgoats have been good.

New trail running shoes

I run in the Speedgoat 3s and the Speedgoat 4 is a step back for me with regards to weight since it got heavier. The Speedgoat Evo on the other hand, is a huge improvement and superior to the Speedgoat 3 and 4.

For 3 season hiking I chose Hoka speedgoat 3, followed very closely by the brooks cascadia. They're both VERY comfortable shoes that are light and breath + dry very well. Lightness + Breathability + Drying quickly > a heavy gnarly boot that tries to keep you clean and dry but inevitably will get water logged from sweat anyway or the elements, just might take longer vs a trail runner. Also 1 pound on your foot is 5 pounds on your back

I'm  new to hiking but my girlfriend finally convinced me to go to a hiking  trip with her, somewhere around Schönau am Königssee and on the mountain area around it (nothing extreme tho). I've been looking for some proper shoes cause I'm  pretty sure I would regret it if I go with my ultra boost, and I've  found a few alternative:

1. Salomon  Quest Prime GTX: The only boots. Is it okay or overkill? I think it's  the most robust of them all and I can wear it when hiking during winter  or ski vacation. (114 euro)
2. Salomon  XA Pro 3D V8: trail runners, seems really comfy. However, no  waterproofness (can't use it in winter). I don't know if it offers  enough protection and grip? (96 euro)
3. Salomon  Trailster 2 GTX: quite similer to the XA, with GTX waterproofness.  However I've heard some controversy regarding GTX on trail runners (too  warm, sweaty feet). (72 euro)
4. Last  but not least: Merell Moab 2 (vents or GTX). Mother of all boots.  Almost bought the vents one immediately but read that it's really,  really prone to getting wet (even with just some wet grass). Not sure if  it's true and if I should just get the GTX version. Both around 80-90  euro.

What do you guys  think? Sadly I can't go to Globetrotter cause of the 'rona. I appreciate  any answer or if you have other suggestions, I would be very thankful!  Thanks and sorry for the long post. :)

 It'S not making me slap. The ground in any way, but it is kind of making itself known that might kind of mellow out a little bit over the miles as like these flex, grooves start to break in, but for today it was kind of like a almost like a nice kind of Like not a guide rail but like a nice kind of little hint of stability in the forefoot that i thought was nice, because normally my foot kind of like lands a little bit on the side and kind of rolls in a little bit. This was kind of encouraging me to land a little bit more squarely on the foot which normally i don't like that feel. I usually feel like the shoe is fighting me when i get that sensation from a shoe, but here it was it wasn't too bad

 This was definitely a pleasure to run in today when i'm thinking about, like a long run shoe if i'm not reaching for a max cushion shoe. This is the kind of feel that i'm going to be reaching for and that i'm going to be looking for something. That'S also gon na get out of my way and just let me run and feel like i'm running the miles, if that it's not running them for me or that i'm not feeling like a bounce or a spring or a squish or any other kind of adjective There it just kind of really gets out of my way and lets me put in the miles and there's not a lot of shoes that are leaving me with that. So, in the sense it's almost a little bit of like a retro or a throwback shoe just feels like a great running shoe to run in

 Forefoot area of this shoe is a is very stiff and has actually given me a little bit of stability in terms of like this kind of like torsional rotation as i'm hitting the ground. So i'm definitely feeling that it's not biting me. It'S not making me slap.  Now this is a shoe. That'S not going to be coming out until a march of 2021, and so i normally wait till she's released before i review them, but this one i did get early, but that also means that i don't always get all like the stats and other information that i Normally like to report, so i'm not exactly sure what the stack heights are on this shoe. I think it's somewhere in the 30 millimeter range in the heel back here and that feels like a 10 millimeter drop. I think it's a 10 millimeter drop

New Balance 880v11 - First Run

 You know it's somebody who needs a neutral shoe is somebody who, when they're looking at a tread pattern on their shoe on a shoe without any guidance built into it, we're looking to see more wear pattern down the middle, or maybe some on the outside of the Shoe if you find that you're wearing your shoes - and you have a lot of a lot of wear pattern on the inside on the medial side, then you might need a shoe that has a little bit extra arch support. So for somebody who's wearing down the inside of their shoe, like that, i might say: hey, then you should you should try the 860., because the 860 has this little piece here. That has a little bit more density and a little bit more structure to it, designed to keep you from rolling too far on the inside

 Everything was right down the middle, because that means no matter what they were doing. We were able to counter it one way or the other and try to keep all your momentum in the middle and we've always found. If we can kind of keep you stable from the ground up then stuff, like your knees and your hips and everything kind of falls in line when you come in and all your wear is one way or the other, then maybe we need to do some sort Of adjustment on it, so this shoe is great for somebody who lose my shoes here, somebody who who wears takes a neutral shoe and they continue to wear more neutral or on the lateral side. But this shoe now the way i can feel that lateral support

 It'S the fresh foam because they're really trying to hit that home.. Hence it's softer. It'S a little bit more squishy compared to what we've seen before
