This is the Groundtruth RIKR technical Tote a 15L

as a totebag but also quickly transform 
it to a shoulder bag or a backpack. And  

switching from tote, to shoulder or to 
backpack is actually quite fast and easy.  

And because this is a hybrid and not like 
most of the backpacks that I review this  

actually has a look that I really dig. I have not 
made up my mind yet if I actually like the look  

because it looks good or because it’s just 
a refreshing look in the sea of backpacks.

The overall compartment layout is actually quite 
useful. You have two quickaccess compartments  

in the front which I use for my face mask or 
other items that aren’t that important if they  

get stolen or lost. Because this compartments 
are obviously pretty easy to get to for pick  

pockets if this bag is on your back. but for your 
wallet there is a zippered pocket inside the main  

compartment. Furthermore there are two small 
drop in slots one of which has a soft lining,  

a bottle slot, a tablet slot and 
a laptop slot for a 15“ laptop.  

Outside there are two more side slots 
for maybe a bottle or an umbrella.

You might noticed that I called all of 
these compartments slots. These are all  

drop in slots without any zippers or meaningful 
stretchy openings. This unfortunately means that  

any items that isn’t held in place by friction 
or just really small can just jump out of those  

slots if you are running to the subway for 
instance. Not a huge deal but the inside of  

the main compartment is really dark, so if 
a small item like a usb drive drops to the  

bottom of the main compartment you will need 
rummage around in the main compartment. In  

other words I would have wished for zippered 
pockets and a much brighter inner lining.

The shoulder straps are very thin in terms of 
padding which is to be expected with a hybrid  

design and the feature of quickly and easily being 
able to stow them away. But this is definitely  

something to keep in mind if you plan to load up 
the 15L of volume to the max with heavy items.

Speaking of loading and carrying. I am not a big 
fan of shoulder or messenger bags because of their  

one sided weight distribution. But I forced myself 
to use the bag in shoulderbag mode for a while.  

and I was quickly reminded why I dislike 
shoulderbags. Even with a small load of 3kg  

on a walk with my dogs the bag became very 
uncomfortable after an hour. I realize that  

I have not been working out as much during 
lockdown, but I am still far from being  

unfit. So any weight on just one shoulder will 
be exhausting after some time walking around. 

However, I feel like this is the perfect bag 
for work. So just commuting with a mix of car,  

train and short distance of walking. 
And if the shoulder bag mode is getting  

exhausting, switching to backpack mode is 
really fast. The design and the look is  

awesome. Is the bag perfect? No, because I 
personally would redesign the interior with  

a brighter fabric and improved slots. But I 
love the design the smaller form factor for  

day to day work use especially when i only need 
to carry a small amount of work essential items.

So if you want a hybrid totebag for work and don’t 
need to carry a lot of heavy gear, that looks cool  

in a technical way and you want a sustainable 
bag made out of environment friendly materials,  

then I can highly recommend the 
Groundtruth RIKR Technical Tote.
