Your budget is limiting you from the best pistol matching your wants. A Staccato 2011 would be perfect for you, but out of your price range.

I'm looking to replace a 1911 for my home defense pistol. I bought a .45 a long time ago when good 9mm hp was hard for civilians to get, but now that Federal HST 9mm is readily available, I'd like to get a full-size 9mm for the sake of extra ammo in one magazine.

My knowledge of pistols is limited to the few I've owned (1911's, Sig p365, ruger lcp). Here's what I need:

\- **9mm.** I love 1911's, but it's hard to argue with double the ammo without a reload. 

\- **Reliability**. If I pull the trigger it needs to go boom, every, single, time. Also, I can't have recoil springs/strikerpins/extractors/whatever failing after 500 rounds since I'll be putting at least 100 rounds a year through it. 

\- 4.25-5.5" barrel (this won't be my carry piece). 

\- **good crisp trigger that isn't heavy**. I LOVE 1911 triggers, and detest Glock's (or, at least, whatever they were using 10 years ago). I switched from carrying a Colt Combat Commander to a Sig p365 recently because I liked the trigger on the Sig enough to be willing to switch over. FWIW, the p365 is a phenomenal carry gun, and I often forget that I have it on me (appendix carry), unlike a 1911 which is stupid heavy and uncomfortable for IWB.  

\- **rail** for a surefire

\- **night sights**, or, at least the front post is a night sight. 

\-Willing to spend up to **$700** including modifications.

So, all of the above in mind, what do y'all recommend I look into? I've got a buddy who has a Canik that he loves, but I'm a little hesitant after researching them. A mete tp9 sfx looks great and has great reviews, but lots of folks who put 500+ rounds through their Caniks complain about broken striker pins, and that's no bueno. However I'm willing to get a Canik and replace the springs if necessary, since they're less expensive out of the box. 

Anything by CZ, Sig, etc that I should be looking into? I'd like to narrow my search down to a few guns before going to a local gun shop and getting my hands on them.

Help me decide on a home defense pistol to replace a 1911

 As usual, the Gen 5 was absolutely reliable. We even threw the gun in the dirt and poured water on it, and it worked flawlessly. We love the flared magwell. The flared design allows magazines to be seated quickly and reliably, particularly in high stress situations

Glock 17 Gen 5 Review

 The Glock G17 is the original full-size pistol that first appeared in 1981.

 Since then, its success has been unparalleled in the gun world. We are now on the 5th generation.

 The G17 Gen 5 holds 17 rounds in the mag, is just under 8 inches in length,

 sports a 4.5 inch barrel, and weighs 3 ounces unloaded. It's chambered in 9mm.

 The Gen 5 series opts for a slight ergonomics redesign, with Glock removing the finger grooves seen on the Gen 3 and 4 series

 pistols. This is meant to allow a wider variety of hands to access the gun, and a faster draw.

 Those with smaller hands will like this as well. The front part of the gun has been rounded to minimize hangups.

 Glock has outfitted the latest generation with its proprietary Glock Marksman barrel, or GMB.

 It boasts new barrel rifling which is supposed to improve accuracy. Does it? Well, it's tough to say.

 We found it to be as accurate as our Gen 4, which is an accurate pistol. As usual, the Gen 5 was

 absolutely reliable. We even threw the gun in the dirt and poured water on it, and it worked flawlessly.

 We love the flared magwell. The flared design allows magazines to be seated quickly and reliably, particularly in high stress situations.

 It has an ambidextrous slide stop lever that makes it easy and comfortable to manipulate the slide from both sides.

 The trigger is also a lot better than on previous generations.

 Finally, Glock has listened to its critics and revamped its triggers inside and out. While this may make it harder to customize the trigger,

 it might not be such a bad issue because you might just want to keep your trigger stock.

 Glock's new trigger is more crisp and much more responsive.

 There's also a new coating on the slide called the N-DLC finish.

 It's supposed to provide enhanced abrasion resistance. While this may be true,

 it certainly attracts fingerprints. On the plus side, you'll find yourself cleaning your gun a lot more often.

 Complaints about the G17 Gen 5 are really only one, the sights. The three white dot system just doesn't cut it in our opinion,

 especially in low light. We recommend upgrading to something more visible.

 In conclusion, the Glock G17 Gen 5 delivers the same high quality performance shooters have come to expect, with some good revisions.

 While you may not want to sell your old Glock to get the new generation,

 it's certainly worth considering this new generation of pistol as your next super reliable, accurate, and proven go-to pistol.

Galco shoulder holster with a glock 20 10mm full size pistol, that way anything you run across you'll be prepared weather that's a bear or a person

I just purchased a farm in the hills of North Carolina. I don't think I have much to worry about from the 2 legged predators. But we have plenty of coyotes and even some bears that come through the property from time to time. I would like to be able to keep a pistol on me at all times while working on the farm. It is all private property so all carry options are legal while on my property. 

Does anyone have any experience with this? What its he best carry option that will keep the gun safe and out of the way, while also keeping it on my person? 

Side note, if anyone has recommendations for pistols themselves, im probably going to be purchasing a new one for this specific use case.
