Gerber Auto Covert Automatic Knife vs Shun Dual Core 8" Kiritsuke Kitchen Knife w/ Saya

Gerber auto is the worst knife I've ever bought. It is pure garbage and gerber should shut its fucking doors. Looks like a blind child made it, nothingnis straight, it came butter knife sharp, and the action literally doesnt work.

While I love the knife I am also very disappointed and wondering if this is typical or abnormal. As such I would welcome any comments.

good quality knife as far as the material, but it scratches the blade when it opens, the lock mechanism works ok, i think it was just that knife i probably, it has a lifetime warranty so when i take it back i will probably get a better one, if you want a nice switch blade, i would reccomend this or the off grid rapid fire ranger.

The presentation of the knife when you open it is really cheap. Which I don’t care in terms of the actual knife - but if giving this as a gift it would be nice if it had nicer packaging and a quality sheath included like a lot of much cheaper knives have.

They also have a line made in the US which is of higher quality but costs quite a bit more. I will be buying the American made version of this knife at around $150.00. It's a decent knife if the price was a little lower

This is a good quality knife, but I'm not convinced it's worth the cost. Just doesn't get real sharp. I purchased the Shun sharpening steel, along with the knife, and followed the video instructions to a T. Still not impressed

It failed under very minor pressure. When I first received the knife right away I was concerned about the durability and overall safety of the knife. Knowing it was probably a bad situation just waiting to strike I used it with extreme care. I had no idea it would fail at such a low tolerance of use

I ended up returning mine. My feedback to shun company —- make it a tiny bit sturdier.

Also it is heavy compared to my other Gerber assisted opening knives. But it cuts smooth.

I also own the J.A. Henckels Twin Two Star II 8inch chef knife, I do love the weight and balance better. However the great thing about these Japanese knives are they have a much lower angle on the blade

Part of the difference between the Gerbers is that the mini covert uses a fiberglass filled nylon that feels more dense than the G-10 handle of the 22-01966. I guess a good way of explaining the difference in "feel" is to say that I fear that if I dropped this knife that the handle material would crack. Luckily, since Gerber backs up their products with a lifetime warranty, I really don't need to worry too much about it, plus from what I read G-10 is tougher than it feels!

It instantly became my favorite! I used it for the bulk of my chopping and dicing (and I do alot of that). The d-shaped handles are fabulous; they give you a good grip, comfortable for the long haul and slip-resistant when your fingers are wet or oily. My only complaint about the santoku is that it doesn't seem to keep it's sharp edge as long; it's a little thicker than the other blades and it takes more "steel" time to get it back to razor sharp. Pretty well impressed, I moved on to the big work horse - the 10 in
