Gerber Auto Covert Automatic Knife vs Schrade Frontier SCHF52M Fixed Blade Knife

Gerber auto is the worst knife I've ever bought. It is pure garbage and gerber should shut its fucking doors. Looks like a blind child made it, nothingnis straight, it came butter knife sharp, and the action literally doesnt work.

The blade is thick and holds an edge well. I get the impression this knife will hold up to a lot of abuse.

good quality knife as far as the material, but it scratches the blade when it opens, the lock mechanism works ok, i think it was just that knife i probably, it has a lifetime warranty so when i take it back i will probably get a better one, if you want a nice switch blade, i would reccomend this or the off grid rapid fire ranger.

Decent quality for the money. Schrade has stepped up their game on their low to mid priced range knives. Feel good in the hand, appears to be solidly built, out of decent materials, and doesn't feel heavy, despite it's bulk, and does a good job chopping,(considering it's size) and solid enough to baton with, if that's your thing, and not so expensive that you will freak out should you manage to lose it, or damge it while batoning.(

They also have a line made in the US which is of higher quality but costs quite a bit more. I will be buying the American made version of this knife at around $150.00. It's a decent knife if the price was a little lower

The edges of the handles aren't well chamfered or rounded. There are gaps between the warped micarta handle scales and the tang. Obviously slapped together with little quality control. But, as far as it being a tool and the total utility of the package, very very serviceable and I think, definitely worth the money

It failed under very minor pressure. When I first received the knife right away I was concerned about the durability and overall safety of the knife. Knowing it was probably a bad situation just waiting to strike I used it with extreme care. I had no idea it would fail at such a low tolerance of use

When I first removed the blade from its scabbard, the first thing that popped in my head was the scene from the old Crocodile Dundee movie in which some hoodlums try intimidating him with a tiny switchblade but then run away in fear when he draws out his huge Bowie knife. I purchased this knife as I am starting to get into bushcraft and survivalism. I wanted something more suitable for tasks too small for an axe or saw but with a fixed blade and more durable than the smaller pocket knives I already have. This thing is a beast

Also it is heavy compared to my other Gerber assisted opening knives. But it cuts smooth.

The only problem with this knife would be it's weight. It is on the heavy side if you're watching the weight of your pack but, that is due to it's strength. It is a very well built full tang knife that holds it edge well.

Part of the difference between the Gerbers is that the mini covert uses a fiberglass filled nylon that feels more dense than the G-10 handle of the 22-01966. I guess a good way of explaining the difference in "feel" is to say that I fear that if I dropped this knife that the handle material would crack. Luckily, since Gerber backs up their products with a lifetime warranty, I really don't need to worry too much about it, plus from what I read G-10 is tougher than it feels!

Maybe someone with softer hands would disagree but the Micatra handles on my Colt 45. handgun are far sharper. No gap at all between the scales and the metal. I added 550 P-cord to the lanyard hole for safety
