Gerber Auto Covert Automatic Knife vs Kershaw Static Cleaver Frame Lock Knife Gray

Gerber auto is the worst knife I've ever bought. It is pure garbage and gerber should shut its fucking doors. Looks like a blind child made it, nothingnis straight, it came butter knife sharp, and the action literally doesnt work.

Both have a flaw design here as the choil directly comes to a point on the blade. I would prefer a slight rounded edge on the choil to avoid accidental finger slicing when gripping the blade. Kershaw does this on other knives so not sure why they didn't on this one. That said Kershaw does have a wider choil and thus makes it less likely to accidentally have a regrettable finger placement

good quality knife as far as the material, but it scratches the blade when it opens, the lock mechanism works ok, i think it was just that knife i probably, it has a lifetime warranty so when i take it back i will probably get a better one, if you want a nice switch blade, i would reccomend this or the off grid rapid fire ranger.

In fairness, I didn’t try and return the knife or contact seller. I love the feel, the weight, and design of this knife, but the steel is either poor quality or didn’t harden properly. My money is on a bad batch of poor hardening. It absolutely, will not, hold an edge

They also have a line made in the US which is of higher quality but costs quite a bit more. I will be buying the American made version of this knife at around $150.00. It's a decent knife if the price was a little lower

Great durable and sturdy knife. Very well made and a good value for the price. The cleaver blade is interesting and well made

It failed under very minor pressure. When I first received the knife right away I was concerned about the durability and overall safety of the knife. Knowing it was probably a bad situation just waiting to strike I used it with extreme care. I had no idea it would fail at such a low tolerance of use

However, review changed because the clip has started to loosen and cannot be tightened and the blade has started to rust. Contacted kershaw and they said that Amazon "isn't a liscenced retailer for their knives". Even tho it says kershaw right at the top of the ad. Tried to return it and I've missed the window for the return

Also it is heavy compared to my other Gerber assisted opening knives. But it cuts smooth.

I don't know if that's a function of the blade weight/size or something else, but that alone makes it feel like it's of lesser quality. I know these are "just" lower end Kershaw knives. I like knives, but I'm not a knife snob. I've got a couple of adolescent Cub Scouts and I'd be comfortable with them using the Scallion I'm not sure that I feel the same about the Static Cleaver

Part of the difference between the Gerbers is that the mini covert uses a fiberglass filled nylon that feels more dense than the G-10 handle of the 22-01966. I guess a good way of explaining the difference in "feel" is to say that I fear that if I dropped this knife that the handle material would crack. Luckily, since Gerber backs up their products with a lifetime warranty, I really don't need to worry too much about it, plus from what I read G-10 is tougher than it feels!

The handle fit and Finish is damn near perfect really nicely done also. I also love the deep carry pocket clip it rides perfectly in the pocket just enough sticking out to get a good purchase on it to get it out. I love this as a great little pocket carry EDC knife. It’s definitely a lot nicer than I had expected
