Gerber Auto Covert Automatic Knife vs KAI PRO Slicing/Brisket Kitchen Knife

Gerber auto is the worst knife I've ever bought. It is pure garbage and gerber should shut its fucking doors. Looks like a blind child made it, nothingnis straight, it came butter knife sharp, and the action literally doesnt work.

The knife is very sharp and comfortable, but the blade is really thick and stiff which prevents it from doing well for boning. It’s worked well so far for trimming large cuts of beef and pork but is not as adaptable as I was hoping.

good quality knife as far as the material, but it scratches the blade when it opens, the lock mechanism works ok, i think it was just that knife i probably, it has a lifetime warranty so when i take it back i will probably get a better one, if you want a nice switch blade, i would reccomend this or the off grid rapid fire ranger.

The steel is not great, but I knew this going into the purchase. For the price, a big piece of AUS-6 does not seem unreasonable. Given that I'll use this knife only a few times a year the steel is fine. Again, given the price it seems quite good

They also have a line made in the US which is of higher quality but costs quite a bit more. I will be buying the American made version of this knife at around $150.00. It's a decent knife if the price was a little lower

Last Black Friday I bought a set of Wusthof Classic knives on sale and they've basically ruined me as far as knives go - I really like them...but I'm also not willing to pay for them all the time haha

It failed under very minor pressure. When I first received the knife right away I was concerned about the durability and overall safety of the knife. Knowing it was probably a bad situation just waiting to strike I used it with extreme care. I had no idea it would fail at such a low tolerance of use

The blade is very sharp & sturdy. I have been using it daily for 2 weeks in a professional kitchen. After two weeks of daily use, I had to finally run it across a steel to hone it. I feel it holds an edge very well

Also it is heavy compared to my other Gerber assisted opening knives. But it cuts smooth.

I've had it for just a day at work now but it's made a good impression in that time. First off, this thing is HEAVY for the size and the steel it's made of (AUS6M), while softer than most Japanese stainless, can really take a beating. The balance on it feels very nice, perfect for a pinch grip. It's marketed as an all purpose but I think it favors meat over vegetables- it's a little thick to get perfect thin slices of root veggies or to glide through peppers, although it could be used for that in a pinch

Part of the difference between the Gerbers is that the mini covert uses a fiberglass filled nylon that feels more dense than the G-10 handle of the 22-01966. I guess a good way of explaining the difference in "feel" is to say that I fear that if I dropped this knife that the handle material would crack. Luckily, since Gerber backs up their products with a lifetime warranty, I really don't need to worry too much about it, plus from what I read G-10 is tougher than it feels!

I have been using it professionally for a couple of weeks and it is very sharp, light, and fairly comfortable. The handle is nice, with a full tang and riveted scales, however; it is somewhat smooth for a knife with an NSF certification. I would like a more grippy handle personally because I handle a lot of slippery food and my gloved hands get wet when processing, making the handle a little slippery for my gloves. Overall a knife with a sharp edge that holds up under heavy use
