As with most high-quality chest straps, the HRM-Run is soft and flexible. The inside front of the strap, the part that touches your skin at the rib cage, has a thin rubber-like plastic; it's the part that reads your heart rate. The rest of the strap is covered by a stretchy nylon fabric.

 Right off the bat. my uh, just for my first set, I've already exceeded the 148 max beats per minute that I got for running with the Just with the Garmin Watch. So right there we can see an improvement. This is definitely more accurate just by doing one set jump into the second set 166 beats per minute

 Basically, the contents of the box is the chest strap itself. There's not really any charging cables or anything you need to work with it, so this is what you get along with a little manual. All right, let's take a closer look at the hardware itself. The Garmin Hrm Pro is actually a really small footprint

 I'm not going to dive too deep on the other running dynamic metrics because they're not that important to me. I really only care about heart rate and running power coming out of this thing, but if you were interested in that data, you get: cadence, stride length, vertical oscillation, ground contact time imbalance. Like I said before, if you want to collect all this running Dynamics data, you need to watch like the Garmin 400, 745, 945, Phenix 6. Basically, any 4runner will do it, but you won't be able to get this information if you pair it to like a Koros or Assunto or a Polar

 Anyhow, like I said, I'm not really interested in the actual power numbers. What I am interested in is when you see an increase in power on one device, the other device reports the same thing and that is indeed happening here. The trends are pretty much right in line with each other throughout the course the run other than a little low point at the end where the Hrm Pro dipped a little bit. And lastly, when it comes to battery life, the Hrm Pro is rated to last up to a year and it uses a Cr2032 battery that's used on a lot of devices out there

Garmin HRM-Pro In-Depth Review // Running Power, Swimming, and more!

 Washed it recently, let it dry then no more pairing. Opened it up and noticed condensation in the battery compartment so decided that it was terminal enough to do "major" surgery to investigate. The pictures tell the story: water got in behind the main board and shorted out some components. Maybe if I washed this without the battery in (cover on) and then let it dry out I could have got a few more months out of it? This seems to be a pretty common problem with these series of garmin hrm units (pro, tri, run, etc) so buyer beware

 Upgraded to 5 stars for the customer service.  Original review (~6/22): I'm a garmin fr935 watch user and avid runner. I bought this as a better & more reliable means of tracking HR than the ohr/optical sensor on the forerunner series. The watch based ohr readings would fluctuate based on watch band tightness, wrist location, and weather (skin temperature?)

Updated:  Died after ~18mo of daily use. Be careful with battery changes.

At first I was skeptical about reliability and comfort due to the review of this product but buying and trying it myself I would say that this HRM is a great product *WHEN* used with another Garmin device like a Garmin watch. Before I used the Wahoo Tickr X, and the contact that snap onto the strap corroded over time. On this strap there are no metal parts exposed to clip on so there will be little to no chance of corrosion. The strap is also very comfortable, usually if I wear a HRM strap for too long then my stomach hurts even when I loosen the strap
