 Before with the F6x, it would take a few steps to lock out in the open.  Out of the box, my F7x was on the 7.20 firmware. Earlier this week while sitting at my desk, I received a vibrate alert and the message onscreen said it was upgrading to new 7

 With it fully charged and all sensors on, it said 20-day battery life. Simply amazing. My F6x on a full charge said it would last 10 days but it worked out to be only 5. The big dip came when Sleep Score was introduced but it could have been the battery was on its way out

 The F7x does not disappoint with battery… until I saw the Instinct 2 Solar specs. I pulled it out of the box on 1/26 at 80% charge and only charged it on 2/10 when it reached 20%. With it fully charged and all sensors on, it said 20-day battery life. Simply amazing

Amazing watch with nothing missed from older models

Battery life is great, tracking is excellent, and I'm really impressed by everything it does and how well. Also a huge fan of the transflective screen vs AMOLED. Indoors, it looks like a normal watch and not my phone. In bed, I can check it without being blinded

Perfect, except the music player

 I really want to give this 5 stars.  THE ONLY ISSUE is the fitness tracker/recommendations. I have been working out A TON ever since I got this, which was sort of the point. This watch wants me to slow down and do more "low aerobic" activities

 Battery life is superb. Super easy to use, and they seem to have thought of everything (example: turning off touch screen while you're recording an exercise activity but still allowing scrolling/functionality with intuitive button presses). The data collected are really helpful, especially if you sync them with Strava (subscription costs extra). I bought the HRM-one heart rate monitor to pair with it and it works very well

Probably Deserves 5, But...

 Fenix 7 vs Fenix 6 To be honest, there's not much of difference between two generations other than 1. 7 has touch screen and 6 doesn't 2. 7 supports most languages and 6 doesn't 3. 7 has a bit more solar charging area than 6 So, if you don't need other language support and don't use map often, go ahead and grab a Fenix 6 instead

 7 has much longer battery life. Almost three weeks vs 5's one week. This is huge, but I think it's mostly from better power management rather than solar charging. I wear it 7/24 and never take it off

 For the 5, it often brushes off 10% of the battery by doing so. Now the 7 takes only 4% off the charge 2. 7 is 5.5 grams lighter than 5

 No wonder all the reviewers crow about is the battery life becasue that is the single positive thing about this watch.  I came here from the Samsung 3, which was a great smart watch but only pairs with Samsung phones. it does a lot of things but...$800 are really not worth it, especially when a lot of those things are done at half the price from other smartwatches - even from the same manufacturer! after a few days I have returned it

I bought the Garmin Fenix 6 last year about 9 months ago I reckon. What it did for me was quantify my training into something I could track better than any app I already had because now I have heartbeat data. Watching myself improve over the last 9 months gradually with numbers getting better was such a boon to keeping me motivated. Also knowing what HR zone I was in really took away any anxiety I had when I was less in shape

I kind of want a GPS watch like a Garmin Instinct Solar, but I’m not sure I can justify the price. For those of you who use one for backpacking trips and thru hikes, what do you like about it? For those of you who wear a fancy watch, what are the benefits?

 I really dislike carrying my phone everywhere, so this was a must. While other Garmin models also offer this feature, what made me buy the Fenix was battery life, button control (I dislike touch screens on watches) and the solid feel of the watch. Not to mention the default watch face is gorgeous. I also like the ability to customize power modes or to put it into power saving mode very quickly

Exceeded my expectations

 The app store for this thing has a whole new world of little apps and widgets (Spotify, beer tracking?!) that you can play around with. 9/10  I think this was a great purchase. The battery life is fantastic. Five days without a charge and it still goes strong – and when you do charge it, it only takes 30 minutes to an hour to get back up to halfway/fully charged

 I bought the 6X Sapphire edition in the hopes of avoiding scratches and also in the hopes of rivaling G-Shock, his original favorite. Sapphire specifically was important to me in a watch face, because sapphire, after all, is a 9 out of 10 on Mohs hardness scale. The only thing harder than a 9 is diamond, which is a 10. This reduces the chance of scratches significantly

 The battery life is fantastic. Five days without a charge and it still goes strong – and when you do charge it, it only takes 30 minutes to an hour to get back up to halfway/fully charged. My main concern before buying was water damage and shock damage, but both have passed rigorous tests and this watch has proven to be very strong and durable. Also, it comes with an automatic one year limited warranty

SEE BOTTOM FOR ONE YEAR UPDATE

 Nothing like seeing a notification that says unproductive when you’re in the middle of your warm-up. If you do trails, and don’t turn off your VO2 Max calculation it will immediately affect your overall VO2 Max. If you’re buying into this whole pulse ox sensor BS it’s almost completely useless at sea level. If you want to conserve battery life you need to turn it off or use it while you’re sleeping

 After doing tons of research on other watches and devices I do think this is one of the best options on the market. It works really well when it comes to tracking and being consistent. If you’re into structured workouts coming from training peaks it’s phenomenal. One thing that the videos don’t cover very well is how you can create a structured work out and it will actually tell you if you’re low or high on your pace during the activity/interval

 The Strength activity section of the app is really cool, but doesn’t work well at all. It basically never tracks your reps correctly. A great concept, but really frustrating. Spotify it is pretty clumsy, and not as easy to get to as it is on the Apple Watch, but it does download a lot faster and I never had any issues with music playback

 This watch also interacts really well with my Tacx trainer, you can broadcast your heart rate, or completely control the trainer with the watch.  Things that I’m not a fan of: GPS is not as accurate as the Apple Watch, if you don’t crank down the band you’re going to have trouble getting an accurate heart rate reading. The training metrics can get pretty annoying. For some reason it’s set up to give you an effort level at the first 3/4 mile of your run

I bought this Garmin watch because I was training for triathlons. Switching from an Apple Watch Series 4 to the Garmin was a bit of a transition at first. Honestly, I hated it for about the first week. Once you get used to the button and menu lay out though it becomes more apparent that the device is really good at what it does
