 Garmin did the opposite, adding marginal features that make bike riding less enjoyable than it should be.  Edit: I found that the course recalculation can be disabled. This significantly improves the behavior of the GPS when I leave the GPX route, or when I ride a route backwards. It's still not breadcrumb mode I still can't zoom and pan the map

 I don't need to pair the GPS with my phone, or send a message when I fall, or send pre-formatted messages to others who may be riding with me. These features have nothing to do with navigation, and don’t help one enjoy the discovery an unfamiliar and interesting part of the countryside.  I give the Edge Explore 5 stars for hardware. Garmin had to make some compromises with designing the Edge Explore, but overall they chose their options wisely

Garmin GPS units for outdoor use from years ago were expensive and bulky, heavy, ugly, and had lousy displays. One paid several hundred dollars for the unit, then another hundred for the road maps, which did not include updates. The screen was a "trasflective" LCD with a plastic cover. Resolution was poor, colors were washed out, one had to use a screen protector to protect the screen from scratches

  This is an initial review 2 weeks after purchase. I bought this to replace using my phone as my primary GPS screen. My phone battery would die too quickly and be way to sensitive to sweat or moisture. This Garmin totally takes care of those 2 things

  The other issue is that there needs to be some sort of sun shield over the screen, because it's impossible to read when you've got the sun behind you.  Recommended ONLY IF YOU'RE AWARE OF THESE ISSUES! Of course, you may have no problems @ all! Good luck.

I'm an avid DIYer who routinely enhances products from Amazon to better suit my needs, & this GPS unit certainly needed it! The fact is, there's NO WAY this unit will attach to your handle bars as-is: the rubber supports that supposedly connect the base to the bar won't fit around the handle bars (@ least on an e-Bike). I solved the problem by 1) putting small, metal rings thru each "anchor slot", 2) putting black cable ties thru the rings, & THEN was able to 3) attach the base to the handle bars. The base was still loose enough to allow me to remove the GPS unit for recharging or using by hand. Finally, I used a mini-bungee cord (4) to secure the unit to my e-Bike console

Works well, but SEVERAL ISSUES!!!

 On the save 4 hour ride I lost 20% of the battery instead of 40-50%. So much better and still usable. Still not great. I'd like to see about 16 hours of reliable battery time

 I bought this to take along on longer tours so need something more reliable. Returning.  Update to review: May be useful to others regarding screen freezing. I contacted customer service about this via chat

This is a must have tool for any serious minded cyclists. It offers so many benefits by letting you know your speed (must also purchase a speed sensor for better accuracy of your speed), it has a map, it can map your ride, offer turn by turn directions, & posts your incoming text messages on the screen so that you don’t have to fiddle around to reach for your phone while riding. But the main two reasons I bought this device was 1. It can detect if I’ve had a crash and send real time directions for help

 2. The heart rate monitor is a very important tool to tell how hard I’m pushing myself while riding. I’m now able to tell when I’m in the optimal zone for a beneficial workout without over doing it and risk getting heat exhaustion or a heat stroke.

This is the best bicycle computer that I’ve ever had. Period!
