I'm your host, Sean, and this go round we're going to be reviewing the FN Herstall FNX. Now part of the reason I wanted to review this gun is even though I did have a review actually already recorded, I kind of thought over the weekend, you know, it's another 1911, you guys probably want to break, don't blame me

 It's going to be a big thing to carry on your hip all day, and good luck concealing it. I wouldn't even try. And when you load it down with 15 rounds of 45 ACP, especially if it's the 230 grains, this thing's going to get heavy. Speaking of, base pads on the magazines are round

 Okay, so let's go ahead and take a look at the FN Herstall FNX. So for those of you who aren't familiar with this firearm, the FNX actually comes in two calibers, it does come in 9 and 45.  I'm your host, Sean, and this go round we're going to be reviewing the FN Herstall FNX.

 Now part of the reason I wanted to review this gun is even though I did have a review

 actually already recorded, I kind of thought over the weekend, you know, it's another 1911,

 you guys probably want to break, don't blame me.

 And I thought this would be a great gun to review because, well, it's pretty popular.

 A lot of people like the FNX 45T, this is the FNX 45, the standard, so it doesn't have

 some of the tactical stuff, we'll go over the specific differences, but I thought everyone

 might want to know, if you're interested in this gun, how's it shoot?

 Okay, so let's go ahead and take a look at the FN Herstall FNX.

 So for those of you who aren't familiar with this firearm, the FNX actually comes in two

 At one time it did come in 40 Smith and Wesson, but like a lot of companies right now, they're

 just not seeing the market for it, so they've left it with 45 and 9.

 And it comes in a tactical model, and this is the standard model.

 The tactical model difference is just real quick so people know what they're missing

 out on if they go with the regular model.

 It is cut for a red dot, so the slide has a plate here.

 It also has a tactical length threaded barrel, so those are kind of the upgrades you get.

 You get the suppressor sights, you get the threaded barrel, and you get the RMR cut.

 So that kind of has something to do with why I chose this model.

 What I wanted this gun for specifically was to be my main self-defense firearm.

 I wanted it for mainly home defense and also possibly for carry.

 I was replacing my Glock 21, I'd had an issue with my Glock 21 Gen 4 magazines, which I'll

 But it kind of made me feel a little less confident, so I just wanted to replace it.

 I went through a bunch of different firearms, tried to figure out what I wanted.

 This one really ticked all the boxes for me.

 Let's take a look at some of the standard features you get on the FNX 45.

 It comes with a double single action function, a short recoil operated tilting barrel, and

 It is going to have a safety, but this also works as a decock, so when the hammer is fired

 if you'd rather carry it without a safety, but with the hammer down, have a double action

 trigger pull on your first go, there you are.

 It does give you a little bit of a space there too, so that you don't have any worry about

 the hammer connecting with the firing pin.

 Here is of course the standard mechanism for locking the, it's a slide lock, I'm sorry.

 You have your field strip lever, which we'll look at in a minute, and you have of course

 your magazine release right here behind the trigger.

 What's kind of cool is this gun is almost fully ambidextrous.

 Having a left handed nephew, I thought this was fantastic.

 It's got the same lever here for safety and decock.

 It's got your same slide stop, and without having to flip it around, you've got an ambidextrous

 magazine release, which is just fantastic.

 The only thing that isn't ambidextrous is the take down lever, but that's still pretty

 Now, one of the things that really drew me to this is, as most people know, the Glock

 21 carries 13 rounds, the H&K USP 45 carries 12 rounds, the PPQ from Walther, which I don't

 think they're making anymore in 45, it carried 12 rounds.

 This carries 15 rounds in the stock magazine.

 So you guys can see that there, that's really nice, it has this little bit of an extended

 It really is a lot of capacity for a 45.

 I have added on, as you can see, a Talon grip texture.

 This is more of the rubber, mainly because the texture that's on here is very stifled.

 I'll kind of show you in a minute what that looks like.

 It didn't bother me when I was doing some shooting, but I had a feeling it would bother

 Also, my wife Ashley was not a fan, so that's what we went with.

 It also comes with interchangeable back straps, it has the one on there that I have which

 is round, which surprisingly to me, this was more comfortable.

 I thought I would want to go with the standard flat one, as you can see here, but it felt
