New user, posting my setup. I'm not a dealer, just a long time vinyl collector. Let me know if anyone has questions or comments on my setup. I've got a weekly YouTube channel but I thought I'd start out by sharing my setup first :)

In the end, I decided on the Fluance RT85 because of a couple of items. I was looking to start a bit cheaper, but the Blue 2M cartridge that came on the Fluance was the deciding factor and I am so glad I went this route. The other reasons were the acrylic platter and the physical switch for the 33/45 instead of having to switch the belt like in many similar priced turntables.

So, I am here to confess that after a lot of back and forth, I am pretty confident that I'm going with a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO. I'd like to credit u/sharkamino for all of his help. I did some more research and digging. 

I need to get to my local HiFi store. They're basically down to the P1 and the Evo. 

Now, I'm moving on to pre-amps/integrated receivers. 

Down the rabbit hole I go!

Turntable decision

The best bargain at this price is the Fluance RT85. It comes with an Ortofon 2M Blue, which has a superior stylus compared to what’s on any of these others (nude tip rather than bonded).

I seem to alway find myself in this position when I go and try and buy something I save up for, I save for one thing but once I have the money I find 10 other different options I want. I have about $500 and I’m trying to buy a new turntable. I was saving for the pro- ject debut carbon evo, and I was dead set. 

But then I was playing with an AT-LPW50PB and I thought it was pretty good and I could save some money buying this for a preamp. I’ve heard the motors on these could be a little noisy but I didn’t hear anything with the one I was using.

The agony of trying to buy something new

 There's a lot of slack in the lever, it bounces the arm if you lift it too quickly and the tonearm safety latch feels like its going to break off every time I use it.  My last turntable was a Pro-ject Essential III and even though the body of this Fluance is much more substantial, the entire experience of lowering the needle with the tonearm lever on the Pro-ject was more solid and satisfying, whereas the RT85 feels flimsy and crappy.  The Ortofon 2m Blue looks cool, but to be honest, for a $250 cartridge it doesn't really sound much better to me than the OM10 on my Pro-ject, which didn't sound much better to me than the ADC QLM32 Mrk III on my Hitachi HT-324 from the 80s. I told you I'm not an audiophile

I am not an audiophile, just a guy who likes to listen to records. I bought the white Fluance RT85 because of the positive reviews and because it looked cool with its acrylic platter, etc. I have owned many different turntables and record players over the years, but this one is the most expensive.  Overall it's an okay turntable, but that's probably as far as I would go with it

 Colored vinyl really pops on the white, though the visual aesthetic proves more impressive than actually using it.  The entire tonearm mechanism feels super cheap. The tonearm lever, stand and safety latch actually feels like something you'd find on a cheapo plastic portable record player like a Crosley. Maybe I got a bad one, but that's my honest opinion

 The new Bamboo veneer, (Available as of May 22, 2021) is matte, clean and elegant which provides a nice contrast amid the brown, black and silver quagmire of modern Hi-Fi. First things first, the sound quality is a substantial upgrade from the RT82 by FLUANCE that I had purchased only a year prior. In fact it's the best sounding turntable for beginners I've ever heard. Not that I've traveled the world in search of turntable nirvana mind you. However I've seen my fair share amongst others in this price category and I'm highly impressed by the RT85's Value For Money

 The headphones section is now totally separate from the amp stage. The photo stage was greatly improved and the amplifier section received an entirely new power supply scheme. The real fun came when we got to connect our new Brio for testing purposes. We use the PSB

 This is how we felt with the new Brio and the imagine tease. The sound was big and dynamic. The sound stage is wide and well defined best. Yet the timing of the music was spot-on, something Riga is known, for we threw all kinds of music from pop to classical dubrio and it sailed through with flying colors

 Imagine T speakers. These are good sized for standing speakers that are highly regarded. They run around 2000 pair, depending on finish, since they are only moderately easy to drive at 89 DD efficiency. We felt they would be a great test of the Brio plus we just tested another $ 3500 integrated amp on the same speakers and and we elected not to carry after listening to it every once in a while when testing audio gear, we run across the combination That is just magical after the first couple of notes, you can tell you have an amazing combination

 The real fun came when we got to connect our new Brio for testing purposes. We use the PSB. Imagine T speakers. These are good sized for standing speakers that are highly regarded

Just setting up our new TV snug, and my old Yamaha + Tannoy HCS 5.1 system is just too big for the space. Used to have the TV sitting inside an IKEA unit, with Front L+R on the shelves and centre on top shelf, this isn't an option in the new room as the centre now covers the bottom of the TV and we don't have the side-shelves - but do have space for floor-standers.

So was looking to downsize to a 2.1 system - probably using the Jamo S 807s and a sub - and was looking at options for amp's.

This is going to be 95% TV use only, occasionally the kids might play some music through it, but it's not a listening room  or anything like - can't find much aside from the Marantz NR1510 which isn't really within budget and overkill for what I need.

Any suggestions for an amp, or would I be better off with an active 2.1 system?

Options for small/slimline 2.1 receiver (or 2.1 active system)

 The Brio R is an immensely musical amplifier. It'S adjoin and detailed, and despite a relatively modest output of 50 watts per channel, it can deliver very decent volume and impressive large-scale dynamics. What'S most impressive, though, is that you don't particularly notice those individual qualities so much, because the music itself comes first on top of all that the built-in phono stage performs vastly better than you might expect at this price, [ Music ], so the Rieger Brio are it's A clear level better than the best of the budget, amplifiers and good enough in some respects, to worry more expensive amps like Roxanne's, candy, k2 and names in 805. I that makes it an absolutely terrific, Buy 

 A price hike from 325 pounds to 480 seems steep, though, can it really be 155 pounds better than the outgoing 303 [ Music ], unlike the old Brio 3, but like the new raiga DAC, the Brio r is built into a half-wit casing, making it a very Compact unit, it feels immensely solid, especially for an amp costing under 500 pounds, but we don't think many people would describe it as good. Looking the are in Brio r stands for remote, indicating that this is the first Brio with a remote control other than that. Don't believe all the hype and great "professional" "reviews" this amp has gotten. I bought it and neither the sound was anything to talk about nor the limited options. The worst offender to me is that, at low volume, the amp was noisy, at least noiser (hiss) than other amps I've tried. If this was an audiophile gem I would forget that it didn't have a balance function but, as it is, is just to simple and basic for having just a simple, regular, ordinary sound

Very good sound dynamic, bass extends very agile. Middle frequency, vocal lived. High frequency clear ! But Volume control only trough by remote control!

 Built like a tank. I purchased the Brio instead of new speakers--I was looking for something more refined than the B&W 706 S2s and the salesman recommended changing the amp from the NAD C368 I was using. Happy so far: tight bass, warm mid, treble is comfortable. Never heard the B&Ws sound this good, great detail and clarity, like you'd expect from $2k speakers

I am running a MoFi Studiodeck with an Ultratracker cartridge and it sounds great through the Brio's built-in phono stage, better, in fact, than the MoFi Studiophono (which sounds livelier but also harsher). The Brio has no built-in DAC and no digital inputs, so your gear will need onboard DACs or you'll need to connect an external DAC--I use a iFi Zen Blue Bluetooth device, for streaming a NAD CD player and a Yamaha SACD player

Forgoing the usual construction of screws securing case to chassis, the Brio's two-part case of black aluminum is joined internally by four case-length steel rods that basically clamp the shell's two halves together.
