 It also doesn't care if it's the lightest, softest flexing, most buttery ski. What it has is a very, very, very good mix of different performance characteristics.  Bob and I are here again to talk about another 2021 ski.

 If they keep making them, we'll keep talking about them.

 They're going to keep making them, and then next year they'll make new ones.

 Anyways, this is the Fisher Ranger 102 FR.

 2021 will be the third year for this ski.

 Bob and I actually did a review of it probably about two years ago exactly when they kind

 The ski is structurally and shaped the same, but Fisher's doing some cool stuff for 2021.

 This is a 191-centimeter, very, very pink ski.

 What Fisher's doing is they're offering...

 They're basically offering most of their skis, the Rangers and the RC1 collection, in kind

 of two colors, and they're not really differentiating.

 They're not saying this is the women's color and this is the men's color.

 So you can get the pink version all the way up to 191 and then all the way down through

 the women's lengths, if you want to call them that, really just the shorter lengths.

 The 191 pink ski is just really exciting.

 So if you like blue, you can have a blue one.

 I think we're going to see a lot of pink skis out there next season.

 See pretty much all guys on pink skis so far this year.

 Before we kind of jump into it, Fisher contacted us a while ago and said, like, hey, do you

 And without further ado, let's chat about this ski.

 Yeah, I mean, I got on it that ski test the first year it came out.

 And it was like, yep, this is kind of what I'm looking for is like a wider, playful,

 woodcore ski with a couple of different extras and a little different feel about it.

 So building off of their Ranger 98 Ti, I guess, would be my closest experience at the time.

 The 102 was just, it was wider, more playful, more tail rocker.

 You know, my instinct was to get right in the woods with this thing.

 And that's where I loved it, was in the trees here at Style.

 It checks a lot of boxes for a lot of different skiers.

 And if you're unfamiliar with it, we'll kind of run through the construction.

 We actually have some cool kind of visual aids here to talk about construction.

 So this is the Ranger FR build, which is basically true between the 102 and the 94 as well.

 Popular in beach, woodcore, fairly straightforward.

 One thing that's unique about the way that Fisher produces skis is they use what they call an arrow shape.

 And basically like the top sheet of the ski has a very subtle little curve to it,

 which I actually think is engineered to provide more torsional stiffness to it.

 It's kind of like those triangular step sidewalls that we've talked about before or trapezoidal sidewalls.

 I believe it's a similar concept to that.

 They also mill out part of that woodcore.

 They call it AirTec TI, technically, because there is some metal in this ski too.

 This is a pretty lightweight ski, just holding it.

You might not even fully realize just how much you want a ski like this. For high-volume ski touring, steep-and-rowdy firm-snow ski mountaineering, and work-week, headlamp exercise skinning, a lightweight set-up based on the K2 WayBack 80 is just the ticket. The featherweight construction flies uphill. The narrow and stiff construction grabs on the steeps but gets bucked around in tougher snow. 
This is a specialized tool. You won't pick these for day-to-day backcountry skiing. Deep, perfect powder snow is enjoyable, but bigger guns will be even more fun. Any sort of poor snow &#40;breakable crust? Slop?&#41; is better handled by a bigger and heavier option. All small skis are under-equipped for tough snow, but the K2 does better than most. It is this ski's more forgiving tough-snow performance that edges it ahead of other close competitors.
