The straps are thin and unpadded - the advantage of this is that they simply wipe dry like the rest of the bag, and don't make you sweaty. I find them perfectly comfortable but have not tried carrying a very heavy load in the bag. I have not had/used this bag long enough to rate the durability, but it looks strong and well constructed.
