 you take the side compression straps with each side Having this little wrap. he'd hook you, hook them to themselves and that forms the upper strap. And here's something again that I want to say when you're not using these straps, they are not dangling in the wind and flapping in your face. So it's a very clean design on purpose, so that it respects you when they are in the wind

Organized those those small items. Hmm, one of those things

 it's not getting in the way of the climbing Horner harness. It's a minimal hip belt as to stretch pockets one on each wing of the hip belt and in this one just to give you a feel for volume. I've got a bar stuffed away, but compass, lip, balm, sunscreen, phone, any number of those kinds of things. GPS All things that you want to access during the day can be stuffed into this these pockets

 It is a low profile phone hipbelt that is quite comfortable even if you're wearing a harness. And that's the idea with this wearing a climbing harness. it's not getting in the way of the climbing Horner harness. It's a minimal hip belt as to stretch pockets one on each wing of the hip belt and in this one just to give you a feel for volume

I have the 24 and do love it, but also have mixed feelings. The laptop pocket is both awesome and shitty. It's genuinely large at 2+ inches deep, which makes it actually useful for pouches sitting up at the 3" top as second brain/quick access pocket.

 The straps are thick and pre-formed and do not flatten well at all. The body cavity is tapered for carry comfort and doesn't pack especially efficiently with cubes and pouches. Something more rectilinear would be better. It also doesn't stand up on its own *at all

I've recently become a big fan of Mystery Ranch after traveling with their 55L Mission Duffel for a couple years. I'm now looking for a daypack that can work well as a carry-on, but also work on the trail. I'm considering the Urban Assault (UA 21), Urban Assault (UA 24), and even the 2 Day Assault Pack (2DAP). I don't think I need the capacity of the 2DAP, but really like the extra organization offered like the more flexible external water bottle pockets and the extra lid pocket. I also like the side access for the laptop, although that feature isn't necessary.

Does anyone have experience with these bags? Did you consider the same alternatives? If so, why did you choose the one you did? Have you been happy with that choice and/or would you choose one of the other models?

I am pretty set on getting something from this brand, so not really looking for other recommendations at this time.

BONUS QUESTION: Also might get a "Just In Case"/packable daypack. Anyone use the MR In and Out 19 or 22?

Mystery Ranch UA 21, UA 24, or 2DAP for Travel and Trail

 I've taken other Osprey bags on adventures sailing the Greek isles, trekking on Icelandic glaciers and "roughing it" in the south of France - and they've never missed a beat. This particular bag actually seems even sturdier than those previous ones - I guess I'll find out post pandemic! It's well built and large enough to fit quite a lot of stuff - the harness distributes the weight nicely and the backplate helps spread the load as well.  While not negatives, there are some things to consider with this bag. First, note the dimensions - it's a tall/narrow bag (vs short and wide) so make sure that will fit both your body and the stuff you intend to carry

 If those two considerations meet your needs, then this is a great bag that should truly last a lifetime.

Osprey Makes (Yet Another) Nice Bag - Look at the Measurements Though!

 I carried my laptop and tablet around in the laptop sleeve and did not have any issues with any of my electronics breaking or getting scratches The side pouches are nice and i was able to put a 32oz hydro flask in there without any problems This backpack has been great to us and will be our number 1 bag when we travel. Great product!

 We took it on the sandy beaches of Hawaii and other places. First thing i want to highlight is that the backpack materials are really high end materials, ranging from the zipper they use to the fabric. It has given us peace of mind when traveling because the stuff inside the backpack is only accessible from the top lid. The zipper is a heavy duty zipper and we have not had any issues with it breaking or snagging
