The Everest 1045K Basic is about as simple as a pack can be. With only one large compartment and a small front utility pouch, this bag doesn't have a lot going on. That being said, sometimes a small, lightweight bag is all you really want or need. Big enough to fit a laptop, a few notebooks, pens, pencils, and your phone, this bare-bones option has room for all your essentials but not much else. We were surprised by how well this pack could shoulder heavier weight with no back padding and narrow shoulder straps. That being said, we wouldn't want to carry heavy loads for extended periods.
When it comes down to it, this is a small bag with minimal padding. If that's what you are looking for, this bag is great, especially for the price. If you want something that can hold every last thing you may or may not need, this bag might be underwhelming. It's ideal for a first school budget backpack for young children and would also serve adults in carrying their essentials for a trip to the coffee shop.

 I have been looking for a bag for commutes that I could carry a laptop in if necessary, but that doesn’t devote a massive amount of space and material to the laptop. I’ve tried a Rucker 3.0 and Tom Bihn Synapse 19, but neither really hit the nail on the head.

 I have used my 27liter bag for 1 month long trip but i needed to pack very minimally. I agree but also feel like if you are under 35 liters (the limit for carry on bag) you might look like a tourist but i think that is still a commendable onebag size for overseas trips.

Where I live in Norway, I believe you’re more likely to look like a tourist with your Aer or Minaal pack than with your Osprey Talon. Sure, size plays a role here. But how many “locals” do you see walking around with all black 35-40L packs? But if you have a little 20L normal backpack, like everyone else on the stree, then of course you will blend in more. That can be a hiking daypack (almost the most normal backpack I see here), or a Kånken.

On the other hand, you can also walk around with your 65L Osprey Atmos, but I wouldn’t straight away think you’re a tourist. I’d more likely think you’re going/coming back from a multi-day hike. Of course, common sense applies here. This might not be the case at Picadilly Circus, but in terms of just walking down the street, no problem. 

I’m a big advocate of onebag but I don’t feel like I’m really “there” with the onebag thing if I’m carrying a 40L pack. I see it more as having so little that it not only is more convenient in your travels, but also that your normal sized pack won’t ever look out of place. I use my 25L Arcido Saxon for travelling overseas and for going to the gym here at home, for example.

Opinion: The most “touristy” looking backpacks are backpacks specifically designed for travelling. That is to say, many of the bags recommended on this sub.

I only keep my keys and a couple pocket items in that top pocket, so I didn’t make use of the extra space. I think if you’re a taller person that wants the bag to pull double-duty as a daily carry and a lightweight travel, go with the CHZ26 (or my current favorite for that role, the CPL24). If you’re considering the smaller CHZ, you will probably find the PLC20 better suited for the job. The CHZ22 is an older design and now finds itself in an awkward spot among Evergoods’ evolving lineup

Does anyone have any real world experience with both bags? I’m wondering which might work better for light to medium EDC, including carrying a laptop, lunch, water, and a few other work-related items to an office environment. Water bottle pockets aren’t critical for me. It seems a combination of the two bags would be perfect, such as the PLC back panel and front dump pocket and maybe fabric combined with the CHZ water bottle pockets and larger top access pocket. I’m curious if anyone has used both and what your thoughts are.

CHZ22 vs. PLC20

I never liked the clamshell zips on the CPL24. It had really weird angles that kept getting the zipper stuck at certain places. The GR1 zips more fluidly. I ended up selling the CPL24

Currently, I already own a CHZ22 that I use for mobile work and with a variety of pouches. I kinda wanna go the more internal organizer route for quicker access than hunting around my bag for pouches.

Talk Me “Out of” or “Into” a CPL24

The Evergoods CPL 24 also *kind of* worked for me, but it was uncomfortable when packed to the brim and I couldn't get it right. This is what it sounds like you're experiencing. Loosening the straps when a soft-sided backpack is full is reasonable, but sometimes that doesn't help enough.

I'm in the market to replace my Timbuk2 Spire for 5+ day travel, but having trouble finding a 30L pack with an internal frame. 

I've researched all of the oft-mentioned players - Aer, Tom Bihn, Tortuga, GoRuck, Evergood, Bellroy, Mission Workshop, etc. - for a \~30L, internal frame backpack in the \~$300 price range. 

My number one priority is comfort because while my Spire does well as an EDC, my shoulders and back start to ache once I pack it out. From my experience backcountry backpacking 500+ miles, I know about the importance of having an internal frame once I start pushing a 25+ lb. total pack weight.

What's puzzling to me is that the only pack that checks all my boxes that also has an internal frame is the Tom Bihn Synik 30. Why don't other pack carriers account for an internal frame, even a removeable one? 

It makes me wonder if my insistence on an internal frame is overkill. Or maybe this community is willing out to tough out the minor aches between the airport and the hotel. Or maybe Tom Bihn's ace up their sleeve is that they've figured out that an internal frame is necessary and the other packmakers haven't caught up yet? Hard to believe though.

So I'm asking for your opinions and stories. In a fully packed out 30L+ pack, do you find just your hip belts and load lifters sufficient? Would you have liked an internal frame, or is it overkill? Please share!

Is an internal frame necessary on 30L+ packs?

On the opposite end, there’s the dedicated laptop compartment where you can easily slide your laptop in while the rest of the pack is stuffed to the brim. It’s a solid design and offers some protection, but there are no straps to keep a smaller laptop from shifting while you walk—so you might consider a laptop sleeve. 

The best thing about it is its vertical zipper, which provides easy access when using the side handle or when you swing it forward off of one shoulder. There have been a few complaints that the bag is oriented to lefties, as you’ll have to slide the bag off your left shoulder to access the front compartment, but we didn’t have any issue with it. 

While the pack holds a decent amount of stuff, we did find that at 24L it felt simultaneously a little small and a little big. You can fit all you need for a small trip inside the pack, but it’ll probably be tight and you’ll need to do some serious organizing. 

EVERGOODS uses YKK #10 RC zippers on the main compartment and YKK #8 RC zippers elsewhere. For those of you not familiar, YKK zippers are designed to last forever, and you can feel that strength and durability when using them. When we first started using the CPL24 the zippers were a bit sticky, but after three weeks of use they smoothed out and now work just fine.
